Balschoiw 0 Posted August 10, 2007 Quote[/b] ]but would all this happen in SP, i highly doubt it Expect the best. Right now there are a few SP missions out that are really well done and add a lot to Arma-engine. I know, i´m repeating myself, but I am working on a missionset (possibly campaign) that certainly will get you where you want to be It just takes time and lots of work to make it "real", to have ambience and mission setup right and to add things that are not coming with Arma. I am working on 2 missions for about 4 months now and I still find things I want to improve or invent for that missions. Playing both of them will give you shivers, that´s what I am sure about. But I want to have them perfect, from cloudlayers to a custom speech/ambience engine. This takes time. When I playtest the missions I always get sucked in by the atmosphere and the immersion some dynamic modules can produce within a mission. With Arma this has been made alot more easier, even if I still run into heavy problems at times or simply rip my nails out if I see another convoi of vehicles simply driving through the sidewalls of a bridge to drown. Overall, Arma is the best you can get right now. It just needs time to get topnotch missions for it done for SP experience.
Sc@tterbrain 0 Posted August 14, 2007 Ambience, immersion, and realism are all buzzwords I like to hear. Â The countless little touches, that many are missed, are what combine to really make the experience. Looking forward to your project. Â First because I am bored of MP. Â Secondly because I am getting burned out on my own project and the resulting hair loss. Can't wait for some inspiration! Â

Dallas 9 Posted August 15, 2007 I love this game so mutch xD btw can some one give me some tips about some clans for this game Norwegian or English clans ^^ i hope it's a norwegian clan out there :P Try the forum called: ArmA - SQUADS AND FANPAGES or talk to ZNorQ, I think he's norwegian. I just played the Black Sword coop mission yesterday, where you HALO down to Isla De Victoria. Hours of great fun and great teamwork despite it was a public game. No idiots, no teamkillers. ArmA is just a good experience and mission makers really continues to carry this game on and on.
-Puma- 2 Posted August 17, 2007 alltough the tracers have been bashed to death in these forums, I must say that i really love 'em. No sight is more jaw dropping than a nightfight in arma and i love the sight of tracers bouncing of a rock and ricocheting into the sky
Scrub 0 Posted August 17, 2007 Where else can you toss in a couple of squads (or make an area with randomized patrols.. Tks Kronsky), throw together a few sync'ed waypoints and find yourself lining up with a flight of helos doing an assault. They return to pick up the survivors and fly them home. With only AI and the player. Nowhere else. Awesome.
SaBrE_UK 0 Posted August 17, 2007 I just simply love this game. Improvements can still be made and all but as the above post states there is so much freedom and the scripting is so versatile.

The editor is great for quick battles, and if i fire up ArmA that's where i'm at. But the patrols are now fu**ed up because of the pathfinding. I cant make a mission involving AI commanded squads using the safe command. The squad wont follow a straight waypoint path if there near a road (apparnently this is a feature, not a bug  ). This causes some extreme tweaking in the mission and its not worth the hassle. I used to make fun missions in Flashpoint involving patrolling to the target area in a staggered column formation, i'm not able to do the same in ArmA as the staggered formation in safe mode doesn't work. What makes matters worse is the standard column formation looks like the squad is on parade in a line rather than patrolling. Flashpoint for me was never about the firefights, it was about the freedom of choice in the editor. ArmA seems to have some restrictions to the way i used to play Flashpoint and it's just not fun anymore because of those restrictions of choice. I'm posting this in ArmA is awsome thread because i still think ArmA is awsome, or at least it will be when we get an ECP style mod for it..

I dont really see whats wrong with it, they also did it in OFP, in ArmA they just decide a bit faster to use the roads. They only use them when it makes sence to use them, if it would take much longer to use a road then they just ignore them. Anyway, i miss some decent 'patrol' missions like in the CWC campaign, it gave me an awesome feeling, as you never know when and what might happen, i really think that missions like that are the strongpoints of these games. I dont want to go offtopic or get into a debate with you ofpforum as you often see ArmA through rose tinted glasses. But the below screenshot says it all for me. Now bear in mind this was on flat featureless terrain in the southern part of Sahrani. This may seem quite trivial, but the mission i was making had vehicles traveling along that road. Now this turned to chaos when the squad refused to go in a straight line.

Yeah i get what you mean, though IMO the problem you describe is more a problem with the roadway lods on roads then the AI ability to walk on roads. (Why the hell do people walk in the *middle* of the fucking road in ArmA? ) But i guess we should PM eachother about this.

PTV-Jobo 820 Posted August 20, 2007 Well I'm kinda new and figured why not also add my positive view on ArmA. I personally love ArmA. Sure it's not 100% perfect--then again what game ever is? You may come close, but for me I haven't seen the big "IT" yet. I've played games like America's Army Online, BF2, etc--usually just stick to military games, but this by far blew me away. I haven't had the pleasure of coming over from OFP, though I wish I did as I could tell there was a great time of fun to be found there, so ArmA is the first major game I've come into contact with and enjoy it alot. I think a major reason for me, is being disabled with muscular dystrophy (please hold all tears and donations until later, folks.....on second thought give me your money now ). I had to give up a lot--especially dreams. I've always had a love of things military, and obviously I'll never get to serve. So for me ArmA gives a guy like me an opportunity to escape from all the BS in life and be that "soldier" I'll never be in real life--even if its for a few minutes or an hour. And for that I give BIS a huge thumbs up for putting together something that gives me some joy and escape. I guess thats why I like playing this kinda thing in a more milsim manner--just hard finding like minded guys lol. Thankfully, unlike my experiences on AAO and other games, ArmA provides a great environment to do such things, which makes it much more enjoyable for me than just random bunny hopping and going Rambo. And I also can't forget to give a to the excellent modding community that has and is producing some really incredible things that make an even bigger experience for people, especially guys like me. So at least in my book (and obvious improvements aside), ArmA is a great game to play.

Major Fubar 0 Posted August 21, 2007 Mr Reality - moderation decisions are NOT to be discussed in public. Please read the forum rules. Note to all: we have repeatedly asked people not to argue against the opinions expressed in the ArmA is Disappointing thread - there is no double standard. All such talk is entirely offtopic for this thread anyway. As always, if you have a problem with a moderation decision, PM a moderator - don't post it in a thread. SaBrE_UK 0 Posted August 22, 2007 ArmA is amazing. Yes it has bugs (although apart from AI I have not witnessed any major ones,) but compare it to any other game bar OFP and you see how amazingly ambitious it is, and how much freedom it allows you, if you'd only take the time to download and play missions/make them yourselves. SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted August 24, 2007 ....that it's stable enough to play 9 straight days, only left due to finishing EVO...... mfcti is working w/ArmA. .....my Vista64 works with ArmA. *woot* 163.44 beta drivers work, SLI works (but had to rename arma.exe to FEAR.exe for NCP profiles). TrackIR4 Pro works......with Vista64... I'll be back....I need a cold shower right now. Â

-Total- 0 Posted August 31, 2007 Been playing the game for a couple of months now and I have to say that it's a load of fun. Mind you, I did not play Operation Flashpoint. That's probably a good thing as most players of a game are never happy with a sequel at all. I've played and competed in games since 1998. Unreal 1, UT99, UT2K3, America's Army, Battelfield 1942, Desert Combat, Battlefield:Vietnam, Starsiege:Tribes, Tribes 2, and Tribes:Vengeance. What I find most refreshing about ArmA is the lack of the whole "Rush and overwhelm" tendancy that most other games have. It allows for patience and strategy as well as requirung good reaction skills. Too many games these days focus just on knockout graphics and twitch reaction speed. I've burnt out on those games. Although different enviroments and physics, they all boil down to the same basic gameplay. ArmA is the first game in about three years to keep me glued to the computer far past when I should have been asleep resting for the next day at work LOL! Last game that did that to me was Tribes2. The game has it's bugs and glitches, but all games have some. A perfect, non-buggy, and non-exploitable game has not existed in years and I doubt there will ever be one again. That being known - Good Job!!
SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted September 1, 2007 I've been waiting to get a 5+ hr test @2560x1600 & SLI, now that I have, it seems these drivers (163.44beta) & the few MS hotfixes are getting things smoothed out. Thats Awesome. Once again, this is from a Vista user.
thomas c 0 Posted September 1, 2007 My first post. This game is awesome, from the very first time i fired it, until this time.Hard to put into words, i love it because it made me think,no big deal, there are alot of games that keep me coming back for more. I hope it makes other players think a little more to.The open space, the bright light, sometimes you can almost smell the dawn air, all the while, seated in my own front room.I get better at the game, not just some saved charecter building with more armer. No,just me, and my wits,oh god it makes me jump some times.Just a game ,but oh what a game, thx.
