jtec 0 Posted December 9, 2007 Looking good Opteryx, people are starting to see what arma can pull off which is really something special.
Maddmatt 1 Posted December 9, 2007 Al Kuthttp://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee219/Opteryx_album/AlKut-1.jpg Impressive. But those buildings are just part of the sat map now right? It's going to take ages to place them all Hope to see that finished, I don't think many island makers are going to be doing something like that because it looks like a huge amount of effort
ryankaplan 1 Posted December 9, 2007 My first model that looks like it will be completed: Stryker Mobile Gun System (Stryker MGS) Turret, which will be mounted on a slightly edited version of the BIS Stryker model. Progress so far: High Poly Model: 95% done Everything Else: Haven't started yet. If i manage to pull this one off, i might look into making the other stryker vehicles. Chances are tho, i will need the help of a more experienced modeller/texturer/configer to finish it.
Kristian 47 Posted December 9, 2007 that looks awesome turret!
nephilim 0 Posted December 9, 2007 her´s a paint over http://img153.imageshack.us/img153....MG] minor things. add more segments into bigger things (eg turrent base) as they´re bigger clunky segments will be more noticable! eventually that grid like structure can be taken out and replaced with normal map. since youll bare see that structure from an angle that would make obviousl that these parts are going inward
opteryx 1562 Posted December 9, 2007 But those buildings are just part of the sat map now right? Yes. Quote[/b] ]It's going to take ages to place them all Yeah it will certainly take quite a while, but eventually I might edit away some buildings to reduce object density, ArmA won't be able to handle such high object density with every object having normal and specular maps. Also, shadows that are cast from buildings will have to go, it will be one hell of a job, but the transition from the satellite image to detail tex looks just too ugly. Blackknight.au 0 Posted December 9, 2007 The thing with Sakakah Al Jawf is all the buildings are "new", if you get my meaning. Could we see some destroyed or damaged buildings in this one? Like when you see vids of Iraqi cities a lot of the buildings are missing walls, rooftops, etc. Just give it a more realistic feel, not a brand new city, maybe? Or would that cause even more video lag?
wipman 1 Posted December 10, 2007 Hi, that will cause much more lag, what will be pimp and may even work... could be to remove the specular maps but leave the shadows, for those few ones that can run with shadows On; i'll love a city with alot of destroyed buildings and some QG factorys and objects arround, but all that will be a really hard work not only on the models, over all i guess that the placement and distribution; plus make the island... do or get the ground textures etc. Opteryx deserves a damn medal. Let's C ya
nephilim 0 Posted December 10, 2007 if you make proper LOD´s you wont have much lag. also group buildings. ofp back then had a limit of displaing 256 obj max at once. therefore some objects were grouped (eg those forrest triangles). would be a good approach for dense urban areas aswell. cheers
thesun 14 Posted December 10, 2007 IIRC that's the way the BHD mod Mogadishu is being done. Opteryx, you should mabye ask them how it's done, to reduce the lag. Anyway, I'l looking forward to you island.

CanadianTerror 0 Posted December 11, 2007 The old guy in the ball cap looks like he'd be happier watching golf more so than running around with a gun. Â EDIT: just to knitpick, the chinese dudes nose looks like its a bit off color/not real. The mercs look good overall though.
