Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

Recommended Posts

Yep, really? I've not seen any real ingame shot, i've not heard a word about an editor, the scripting capabilities, ability to mod, the gameplay and so on. Amazing how you can judge things, you have never really seen wink_o.gif

Oh Really now? If you were looking around in the CM forums you would have found an Answer to all your questions,

In game screens are confirmed at GC.

A 3D editor just like the OPF one but better will be in the game.

Scripting will be in the game.

Modding tools will be released just before the actual release of the game.

Amazing how you can judge things, that you have really seen and heard about.

wink_o.gif

I'll withhold my judgement on the editor until I see it.

The promotional campaign is hardly like to describe it as useless or inferior.

Every game and it's dog promises modding tools prior to release.

A bold claim that none ever deliver.

I'm certainly more excited about this game than I am ArmA 2, which to me looks like little more than a console verson of ArmA.

But on the other hand, I've been excited about lots of games that turned out to absolute chod before also.

The nice thing about ArmA 2 is that I have a pretty good idea of what to expect from it.

So I might not be wildly excited, but I know that my intrest is not misplaced.

But in my opinion, the game looks very very promising, the game footage in the background already looked great, i liked the moving head, you will feel less like a floating camera with a gun attached.

Isn't that what OFP has...and ArmA...

Headbob is the second thing I turn off in any game.

Well, its kinda hard to judge the gameplay from those videos in the background (Especially since we dont know how this mission was set up), but the guy didnt have to take cover once, he could just run all the way trough that open field without any problem (While there were some explosions in the background so there probably were some enemies near).

The wobbly-sprinting-head im going to turn off ASAP, every other game that i played that had this made me feel sick after a while. tounge2.gif

The graphics still look awesome though.

Exactly! This is supposed to be a game of realism, and that is one of the things that I will be buying it for!

Running anywhere with a lot of kit will not look like you are flying a plane!

... I say DON'T make head bob optional, unless you are able to ditch your heavy kit and go roller blading!!  wink_o.gif

hmm I suppose it would be nice if CM can post just the gameplay video for analysis by the fans  nener.gif

well even with the head bob there was still something that made the walking feel more BF2 than OFP then i realized what was missing..... free aim (or free float, whatever it was called) , but probably they just didn't add it yet

Your brain automatically stabilizes most of the wobbling while you are moving in real life, at least i dont feel sick while running/walking with or without heavy gear. (Or at it least makes you feel like you arent standing near an earthquake)

At the very least the wobbling seems overdone, a bit of wobbling can be very immersive but most games then to overdo it.

EDIT: Excuse me for the horrible spelling/grammar in this post.. whistle.gif

Wasn't there headbob in ArmA and OPF?, anyway if I go for a Run my head bobs, It's realism.. smile_o.gif

Stay tuned as there's a few more days of GC left and Codemasters are doing Presentations on each day. There will be more interviews with Devs who will talk about and show you some of the ingame assets on the big Screen, They are planning to go much more indeath about the game then ever before, so lots of questions will be answered.

Also, Does anyone know when BI are doing their Presentation?

agreed with ofpforum, human brain and body will automatically ignore/minimizing the effect of many things inorder to make our live easier

when i play stalker i have to stop playing after some 20MIN inorder not to throw up, in ARMA the wobbling is much less and i can stand up to a few hour if my TIR setting is correct, and i could play OFP for over 10 hours without getting any sick feelings

the key is the sharpness of the movements, in OFP the movement is very small and sharp, there for is much closer what we have everyday, ARMA have a more smooth and a bit large, therefor you can stand less time, if you use TIR you would need to be very careful on the setting, in stalker the movement is very large and very long and very "sticky"(cant find any word to describe it, maybe "heavy" is better), that makes life more difficult(some mod remove this and make it much more playable)

I don't want to insult anyone, But I just don't get how you get motion sickness from games like Stalker or from the OPF2 Video.

I don't notice the headbob in any game, And when I started ArmA, I didn't take a second thought about the Headbob as I got to immersed into the game. wink_o.gif

i dont get motion sickness in most game(well untill i play some 10 hours straight)

but i really have a big problem on stalker, it is over done to a point which could make you sick

basicily your inner ear cant catch up with you vision, thats why you get sick.

i am completely immune to sea and car sickness(still running around on a ship in the middle of storm while others lay dying or sleeping on a landrover while crossing the Egypt desert, doesnt affect me)

but when a game is overdone i will be pretty sure about it

It's just like sea sickness or car sickness (Of which i have neither), hell, i even know people who feel sick after playing games like HL2/CoD for a while because its so incredibly smooth its like you are flying all the time. tounge2.gif

I become really sick when I play HL 2 (+ episode 1 or 2) the second time. The first time I'm so in the game but then I know the important places and I become sick sad_o.gif

Indeed, at least graphics-wise I reckon Arma2 looks far superior in that screenshot comparison. Also from what I've seen on the OFP2 gameplay in the vid, Arma2 will have many an advantage over OFP2, but we'll have to see more to be definite smile_o.gif

OFP2 looks far too "brown", ArmA2 looks really good for the atmosphere and feeling, although some "browning" is evident.

This OFP2 pic is nowhere near the quality that we have been seeing so far... The model seems very lowpoly and the terrain bare naked... If this is indeed from OFP2, it must be from an much older build...

It would be like comparing it to early pics of Arma 1... which looked like OFP:elite...

I don't know if the gameplay of OFP2 will be good or not, but I'm sure there will be plenty of eye candy for the mainstream market, therefore I cannot but be skeptical at this blackhawk pic...

You could take some of the other, earlier ArmA2 shots and compare it to that OFP2 one and it wouldn't look all that much better.

Don't forget... the two games are going to come out around about the same time. But, OFP2 has a much much larger dev team. That means, OFP2 has the chance to improve allot more then ArmA2 does. Besides, the gameplay footage that has come out shows ground enviromnets that look every bit as good as ArmA2's, if not better.

I haven't really looked into OFP2 too much... but today i watched gamespots new interviews on it, and the E3 presentation. To me, it seems Codemasters listened to the players concerns allot more then BIS has actually. The effects in the game seem far more advanced then we are going to see in ArmA2, the animations are far superior (including vehicle mounting animations), and a load of other improvements BIS has failed to impliment.

Im really looking forward to ArmA2... but I fear that OFP2 is going to be a much better game in the end, and be more along the lines of what ArmA2 SHOULD have been.

From the ofp.info site, where the pics are shown:

Quote[/b] ]For those that are wondering, these are in-game taken from the same build as was demonstrated live during our presentations today at Leipzig!

Sorry to disappoint you. I'm going to guess Codemasters marketing stategy was to make everyone masturbate themselves blind over the renders, so that by the time they were forced to produce ingame shots, nobody would be able to see them tounge2.gif

If those are ingame screens, it looks like OFP2 has a film grain effect like 'Mass Effect'. The effect in ME looked brilliant in the cutscenes and dialogue sequences but during gameplay it looked a bit cack.

Having watched the interview videos and looked at the ingame footage there the environment looks pretty good from the ground, but I've already expressed my displeasure at there being a compass and GPS in the HUD to a few people: Having to stop to read the (albeit simplified) map, then get your compass out in OFP in order to navigate was one of those great little features that helped it to go some way to simulating a proper soldiering skill and could be a challenge when you turned waypoint markers etc off. Admitedly, I knew the islands like the back of my hand after a few years and didn't require the compass so much after that.

Also, the guns in first-person are placed in such a way that it obscures the majority of your right-hand field-of-view. Not a good idea if you ask me.

@Pathy : OMG, I went to the site and you're right... this is the latest build they have. I'm speechless... And with that level of detail, they speak of only 32 players max on PC in 2009 ?

Arma 1 Blackhawks already look better that that ! Damn... even the chopper I am working on looks better than that !

They better get back to work if they don't want to make a fool of themselves after bragging so much with their CGI teasers and uber cool "ingame assets"...

The comparison with the new "Venom" pics Maruk has just posted make my eyes bleed.

Not a 100% fair comparison, the OFP2 screen is taken on a high altitude which makes the background look worse. The OFP2 island still seems awfully empty though. (OFP1 object density? confused_o.gif )

EDIT: Those pics do show the advantage of Linda though, the ArmA2 trees really do look better.

The Blackhawk looks like its flying fast compared to the ArmA2 chopper thats slowly landing, would that make a difference in quality?

I don't mind a max of 32 players, I mostly play Co-op and when I play Co-op with 2-3 friends in ArmA it's a blast. I'm worried tho about ArmA2 that you cannot enter as many buildings to do in-door fighting, that the AI is not gonna enter buildings like they did in ArmA, or rarely did.

Yeah those two images don't really stack up anywhere in similarity except that they both feature helicopters...though erm I gotta ask, are you sure the OFP2 picture is an ingame image and not concept art? That is afterall some funkay lighting O.o;
