just looked at the petition over 210 in one night

it looks like the community is certainly behind this mod

We are using for importing animation and skinning now FBX format, we found mel sripts sometimes problematic, slow and unstable. Im not surre if there will be support for importing FBX to O2 in free tools, but its possible.

I'm sure that'll go down like a wet fart in an elevator. Have your little protest guys, but please be wary of coming across as pretentious and demanding. If you end up alienating BIS because of what is frankly a self important and self righteous crusade, and because Marek and Sumas inboxes are flooded with spam on your behalf, then it's the rest of the community that suffers.

I dont think it a problem for most of the modmakers if a tool is slow or a bit buggy. As long as its gets the job done.

would this mean an update to O2, or a separate converter?

Maybe it is possible to convert the Maya anims to 3Dmax and than convert it with your converter to ArmA ?

Btw. smilly maybe you can ask a member of the CnC Mod, they are still working on animations too.

If this is of help for the mod:

You can export objects with animations from maya with tools like Polytrans. This way you get a 3ds model with animations that has been produced in Maya.

I had to do this while working on an interactive presentation for Quest3D that also only accepts 3ds objects and animations. If you have problems send me a pm.

Polytrans

There should be an x-exporter for both, Maya and 3dMax, and x-files can be imported in Polytrans aswell. Still, you can´t export skinned objects from Maya via x-exporter, so the skinning has to be done in 3DMax.

Again, there is no special tool for animation, we use Motionbuilder and max or maya, importing this data to O2 in FBX format. So only what you can expect is some import plugin of FBX format in final version of O2 tools.

You need to be careful with words here as some may (/will) interpret it wrong, is it really something that should be expected or is there just a (small) chance that it will be in?
