I noticed that the machinegun the soldier is using is from Game2, it is exactly the same.

Armed Assault will be Game2 and Game2 will be Game3.

and then all this will cause a paradox and both armed assault and game2 will travel to a parallel universe where they've already been released two years ago.

Uh what happened....

are you sure it's exactly the exact same gun that is in the pic of game2? biggrin_o.gif

Um. Shouldn't this go in the main sticky thread?

Oh, and while the tank texture (which is, I would assume, quite preliminary) isn't ultra-detailed, I would bow to you if you could get the details that are there into a 128^2 texture.

Now you're nitpicking, but offcourse it good if they make it correct.

Yes, I know I'm nitpicking, but it's the details that can really make or break the immersion, and the one thing that would drive me nuts is inaccurate or incorrect units. I know that can be modded, but why should it "need" to be modded. I would take very little time to make the units accurate, so why not point it out?

I guess it all boils down to the timeline. "Modern" is subjective.

Maybe BIS is sticking with the plan of re-releasing the old campaigns and stuff in Aras and their using the same models for both 1985 and the modern setting confused_o.gif . I loved the original OPF but after all these years i was hoping they would finally let it go, honestly, im looking forward to new stuff and expecting more realism too so i dont see the need for 85 era stuff to be in the game anymore.

the development time spent converting, fixing and adjusting the old CWC/RES. stuff to the new engine/game could be used better plus they wouldnt need to make old and modern units for the game.

If you look at the new pics from VBS2 you can see that they are slowly removing the older gear and replacing it with more modern (as in seen and used within the last 6 months) and accurate gear. Some mixing and matching of older and newer gear can be seen just as in RL, but at least it's beginning to be accurate other than the shots of coyote interceptors on US army units. But some other shots show marines so it's beginning to get better. So it's not as if it can't be done.

Merged cosmo3000's thread into here, we don't need any seperate threads to discuss the same things as discussed in this one smile_o.gif

Well if the scenario is a full scale war against russia I suppose that many things won't follow the normal rules. There might be a heavy shortage of body armor so you take what's available.

Use your imagination a little and you won't feel that dissatisfied if some details doesn't follow the rules. wink_o.gif

I am doing that and I can even stretch the fantasy to chinese SF's rolling down the mountains on custom built choppers. tounge2.gif

Thats a good point, BIS will problably make everything look a bit like that so it may be used in multiple eras without looking too weird. The new campaign might be set in the 90's for all we know, anyway i doubt 90%+ of the users will tell the diference or complain confused_o.gif . This also got me thinking about what the Sara island conflict will be about and who will be involved confused_o.gif .

still no info though if dds (dynamic destruction system) is going to be included. Though VBS2 seems to feature it, so there's still hope for it to be on AA!

BMD?

Anyone else think the vehicle furthest on the left of this picture looks like a BMD a bit? Looks like the vehicle is facing towards the right which would make the turret too close to the front for a BMP. Plus the missile tube on top could be off of a BMD. Then again I could be completely wrong and it could just be a BMP-2.

Probebly a BMP-2, just like the burning wreck on the right. smile_o.gif

Battlefield 2 graphics are more like lighting, and effects. But I see in ArmA a crystal clear picture, more than any game. Those screenshots look very sharp and colorful. Add that with the new lighting and photo realistic textures in OFP, and the combat photography thread will be going nuts...

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a361/SpecOp9/Comparison.jpg

BF2 is merely a portion of what OFP is,if even that, sure BF2 has more fancy graphics however thing of your view distance and not to mention the area you can move around, the vehicle limits/infantry limits, after you look at these things you can see that if BF2 had some of the things that AA has then it wouldn't be nearly as high in its graphics.

I think you people are also really putting AA off as being low in graphics,if you want to have an experience of it then play OFP:E and I assure you its different, they both look very similar which is actually a good thing,if they include more things that were in OFP:E then heres a few-

Grass (duh and it helps alot)

Grass bends when helicopters are near

New Trees

Trees also move a bit when a helicopter is near

Dust clouds

Bump maps for islands,if you want a good example then go to desert island on a normal or clear day and you will see it.

Glass has sunlight glares-

Vehicle controlling is eaiser and seems more smooth

The water (which is definatly a good thing,if you have ever seen the water of OFP:E you would probably like it very much)

New lighting effects,example- The mission where Armstong is on guard duty at night,I looked up a tower infront of my with a red light flickering on and off,I noticed a reddish glow was cast on the area of the tower near the light, there was also a lighthouse and when the light reached the tower it effected it.

Another example of this is the flares, when I shot a green flare into the sky near a civy village I noticed the area near the flare had a greenish glow, even the soldiers.

Its hard to say but in a way it seems that they are indeed bringing OFP:E's attributes to the PC in which case,is a very VERY good thing, after playing OFP:E I must say that I am impressed.

A few more things,I noticed that as the clouds move and things like that, the lighting changes, one moment it was bright and then suddenly it got a bit darker and then light again,as in real life.

Aside from the obvious lighting is a new sound systems,a small example would be guns,I was playing a mission where there was a resistance soldier behind me,when his gun fired I noticed it sounded a bit muffled,so when I turned around it sounded very clear, the sound variables changed depending upon how close I was facing it.

Oh yeah a few more things,in OFP:E when you destroy a vehicle the vehicle doesn't crumble, instead it darkens and stays its normal shape,I did notice upon close examination of a destroyed T-72 that the fire location was actually located at one of the hatches,I also belive there is a wind effect because on one missions I destroyed an enemy tank, the smoke came out and began to blow to the east,a few moments later it then went back to being almost straight up,which btw the smoke is a new particle and looks much much better, there is alot that AA will do iif it includes these abilities.

Its very obvious that they are putting much of their time into this, however people seem to like to focus on negatives too much, perhaps once we could all focus on the positives because believe me,there are many....okay time to go play me some OFP:E.

BF 2 was be criticized for graphic. BF2 have ugly detaliled textures. BF2 is good game, but I prefer ArmA. ArmA is muche more then beautiful OFP in new coat. I am happy because Victor Bocan will be controling works on next sequel. notworthy.gif
