Why still Operation Flashpoint

Recommended Posts

why:

When I play other games im anoid over the things I can in OFP and not in this game.

I can have a 2000 view distance whit my 1,333ghz machine and no lag(one some islands and whit low or very low terrain).

I can shoot people at 1250m distance I am yet to see another game in which I can do that.

I can make my own soldiers and weapons.

I can get realy mad when I am ofgaurd and get shot by the enemy.

Enemys can miss you when they shoot(belive it or not)

I can get a MP5SD whit a round flying 900 m/sec and hit tagets over 300m away biggrin_o.gif

etc, etc, etc, etc

I really don't know of any other games that could replace it.. Some games come close, but are disappointing.. Mainly because it feels like you are a video camera floating around in space with a gun stapled to you.

The Delta Force series are a good example of this. Joint Ops has nice terrain, vehicles (even movement in them) but the gameplay is like CS, but worse.

How can this be, people playing a game that doesn't support the latest shaders! We must get to the bottom of this strange cult of abnormal players!

I hear they've discovered a buried treasure forgotten for years in favor of graphics... the Holy Gameplay â„¢!

Talk about abnormal player : i have Daggerfall since it was released, it is always installed , and i even continue to play it.

biggrin_o.gif

Honestly, when i give a look the the games i have , the graphics has never been the reason of me buying them.

But i don't really understand what some people think is that bad in OFP graphics, personnally i am always amazed by how good it can look on my system, considering the possiblities OFP offers.

Then you are a fanboy considering how your mad about Halo2 and HalfLife is according to you the best game in the world  tounge_o.gif

Wrong.

I'm not 'mad' about Halo 2 or Half-Life. I think they're damn good games. I never said anything about Half-Life being 'the best game in the world'. But if you want to think that, then fine, whatever.

A fanboy is someone who thinks that a single particular game is the only game in existence and any other game sucks.

Fanboys suck. Half-Life fanboys suck because they can't see that there are other games out there besides Half-Life. Halo fanboys suck for the same reason. OFP fanboys suck also for the reason stated above.

If I play HL, Halo, Operation Flashpoint and a host of other games, how can I be a fanboy of any of them...? rock.gif

Actualy i disagree, you can tell me that Joint Ops or Far cry have better graphics but do bother to take a good look at the weapons crazy_o.gif

Alright, now take a good look at those JO vehicals crazy_o.gif.

Yep, they look like shit compared to some of the nicely modeled and textured units designed by talented artists for the OPF engine  smile_o.gif .

For me its a matter of finess and quality too, while i enjoy OPF's gameplay and overall great features i also like quality stuff and seing how crap some of the units look in some of those recent games OPF engine is still far from being dated wink_o.gif .

I could go on.. and on...

I think just about everyone here no matter how much they like OFP plays a different game every now and then, so that places them in the same position you are. There are some people such as myself who will not touch any other FPS out there as it's pretty much beneath their expectations gameplay wise. OFP is a cut above all the rest. That's just a fact. The rest are just Quake/CS/BF clones. They all share the same general gameplay.

There's only one option for people who no longer enjoy a typical FPS shooter. That's OFP.

Why still OFP?

One word : FREEDOM  biggrin_o.gif

fuckin A man fuckin A  wink_o.gif

noticed on the last page the mini-convo.. the other day i installed the first delta force to make sure it still installed (without a keycode) cuz im selling it along with DF 2 and land warrior..) anyway.. the graphics are absolutly horrible.. its barely 3d... but 3 hours later i was still having fun  biggrin_o.gif  i had to force myself to re-uninstall it  tounge_o.gif

how can anyone enjoy anything? not just "How can this be, people playing a game that doesn't support the latest shaders!" how can anyone enjoy porno? how can anyone enjoy horror movies? how can anyone still enjoy pacman?! who cares? as long as it feels good and isnt illeagle.. then who cares why people enjoy it.. the fact of the matter is they do enjoy it.  smile_o.gif

edit: and i submited a long comment to gamestar smile_o.gif

I like the whole gung ho feeling that goes along with the military. The neverending fight for great good and the protection of ones people. The brotherhood a soldier feels, i find I also feel when I'm playing co op. On single player missions, I enjoy the experience. You get all these factors that make it seem apparent to your brain that you're really there. It's a pumped up display though, but its very fun.

I sent a detailed letter a couple days ago, never got a reply, so maybe I should re-send it biggrin_o.gif

As I said on the OFPEC forums, gamestar.de keeps blocking various American e-mail sources. For some reason.

Depends on perspective, while i enjoy OPF's slow paced gameplay i also believe that gameplay is one aspect that is lacking in the game, OPF misses many important features and elements of a "typical" realistic FPS but compensates with everything else wink_o.gif .

As long as you did not get a "message failed" reptly, it should be okay. I find it quite odd that they block entire internet providers in America though, thousands of people... can't contact them.

omg, i was very, very dissapointed while reading in the new Gamestar (01/2005 - page 207 ) topic by Petra  (PET)...  gewitter.gif

- she wrote about Lega Warz and how *peciular some OFP Mods are sad_o.gif  ... (nothing against Gary Hay's Lega Warz Mod)

... but every other Mod will be a better choose ... (to describe OFP feeling of course)

- and such (2 small) ugly pics ... omg - never saw such sickness before, a tragedy .. completly missunderstood Petra!  ...

(in german: Setzen .. Sechs) ...

P.S. and the worst part .. she handles some like us - still playing *our game, like some *freaks ... omg

my interpretation of here opinion is that she definitly can't understand why we don't play some newer *Arcade Jumper

- like the *Others do ...  mad_o.gif   ...omg!

Why still operation flashpoint? Because of the fact that when new music comes out, or a new idea, or new weapon, or anything comes out we immediately want to imagine it in a mission and play out the scenario.

Why OFP?!

Because it's the best fackin A, one shot kill or be killed, thrill to be thrilled, drive all you can drive, fly all you can fly, walk all you can walk without borders, teamspiriting, meet peeps from around the world, no ramboitis (well hardly any, and the ones that are get shot to pieces smile_o.gif ), still moving forward on graphics and every day new units-vehicles-islands-statics, BEST MILITARY SIMULATION GAME that is out there!

That's why Operation Flashpoint! And i do not give a rats ass what somebody else thinks about the game! If you wanna experience the feeling, don't ask. PLAY! I'll be playing this stuff untill OFP2 comes out! And i know there's a lot of peeps in the ofp community feeling the same way!

Who gives a freak what the critics say! Are we following the mass or are we soldiers with a own mind! Now let's play gawd damnit!

Game on!  blues.gif
