Why start a topic like that? Are these not forums for the game OFP? I do not understand (as Placebo knows) some of the topics posted here. To quote Suma himself from the post " Purpose of off-topic forum". Quote[/b] ]Off-topic forum is here so that you can discuss things that are somewhat related to the game, but not about the game itself. The forum subtitle reads:"about wars, military conflicts and everything what pertinent to Army" Even if this forum section is called Offtopic, it is still part of Operation Flashpoint discussion board - and any topics that are completely unrelated to OFP can be closed or deleted. We see no reason why we should dedicate our bandwidth and hosting space to such discussions. If you want to talk about something else or about nothing at all, there is plenty of spaces on the web where you can do it (like public chat rooms, some newsgroup or IRC). "Comic Rodney Dangerfield Dies at Age 82" and " Did you stick to your New Year resolutions". Great. Ignore them you say. When I click "New Posts" and 70% is cluttered with is dross I can not. Thank you Please.

Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted October 6, 2004 That happened to me once; the guy I was ''flaming'' at laughed his ass off, but Placebo thought it was serious flaming because I forgot to add a smily. After a few PM's we finally understood eachother. though Naaah I just have a vendetta against you  gosh, thanks Placebo! The mods have been very kind to me since I've joined these forums; June 2003: Placebo accused me of flaming at DKM-jaguar (wan't flaming) september 2003: Hellfish sent me a message with the titel "you're banned" to congratulate me with my birthday Januari 2004: Ex-ronin accused me of flaming (was partually correct, but I didn't mean it that way) September 2004: Placebo took of 25% of my postcount for spamming (was completely correct, though) September 2004: Placebo permanently banned me (for fun) because I shot him in the CSLA topic. I'm not paranoid, but I'm beginning to think this is one big conspriracy

Thank you Please. I agree with you 100% in theory, Tankie, but in practice, we have to allow a little leeway. For every complaint we get from a member that we allow too much "way offtopic" stuff in OffTopic, we get 2 from someone else saying "why did you close such-and-such thread, it was really interesting!". There is a careful balance to be maintained, and we are not infallible. You also have to consider the "long bow" theory - someone out there could argue that Rodney Dangerfield once served in Korea, so it IS war related. I understand your point Tankie, but you have to see the other side of the debate as well - do YOU want to be the one we forward all the PM's to when we lock too OT threads?   [j/k] I think so long as people exercise a little common sense, and we enforce the rules in a fair manner, you really won’t have too many "spam" threads to wade through.... (Note: anyone who takes this as consent to fill OT with garbage is very much mistaken, and can expect a nice long PR)
Placebo 29 Posted October 7, 2004 I had a discussion in PM with someone recently about offtopic threads and why some are left to survive and some closed for being "too OT for OT". I think my reply pasted here would also be appropriate...... Quote[/b] ]When it comes to some topics we have to make judgment calls, mine are usually based on 1. Does the subject have the potential to cause "fires", 2. Does the subject have the potential to offend, 3. Does the subject have the scope which means it's a topic of interest and an opportunity for a wide number of people to contribute or just a small niche (for example raccoon hunting).Of course sometimes we get it wrong, I like to think we moderators get it right a good % of the time but we're only human and all that, so sometimes a member or members may disagree with our actions, that's life unfortunately

Than go to the very bottum of the screen and find the little field that says; invite a friend. have fun  edit; you could start by inviting that lady from your signature *hint, hint*

mr burns 132 Posted October 15, 2004 another question to our dear mods: if/when you go to an interview for a job, do you mention your work for the forums .. and if, how do you make it not sound as if you were an internet addict ?
Skul 0 Posted October 15, 2004 I don't really think moderating a forum will have anything to do with a job interview, unless you're trying to get a job as a moderator. [Gareth Gates must die]
SpeedyDonkey 0 Posted October 15, 2004 Well, Placebo probably told BIS that he was a Moderator before they hired him.
