Faces of War [WW2]

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

So I made a little config to allow for the outstanding Faces of War German faction to speak German instead of English.

You'll need to run IFA3 alongside it since it's using the IFA3 german language.  But I figured some folks might be interested in it.

Both mods are outstanding!

After messing around with the mission ive been working on I have made a spawn system that works well. Now I just need a Japanese plane and tank to be released from this mod. As of right now due to not having any ww2 ships in this mod im having to get the landing craft to take off from a dock in the middle of the ocean which isn't ideal. especially for immersion.

Do you use only Faces of War? Exec dark screen from the beggining and find sounds that would fit as smaller boats departing from the bigger ship. Inlcude fog or any other script that would help you achieve ambient of smoke around you. If you use IFA3 by any chance there are shadows of US ships in eden that would look great behind landing crafts. Crappy image but you'll get an idea.

I use both IFA3 and FOW. The mission im working on is called terror of terawa part 2 a mission from arma 2 hell in the pacific mod. In the original mod the landing craft housed vehicles that were parked in them, that is the script needed. Also in the original there was a carrier and battleship the player could spawn on. The landing craft were docked on the battleship. I need both to fully finish this mission. I Started modeling a aircraft carrier but was struggling with getting it in game. TeTeT(guy who ported Nimitz carrier from arma 2 to arma 3) has offered to help me get it working. Ill continue working on it on a later date. If the quality is good enough I would offer it to the Fow guys but only if its quality is of that of the rest of this mod.

After spending around 2 weeks on this mission I was super close to completion. After the pass two days I started having a random error. It said "num7.paa not found". This confuses me because I have only one paa in my mission called fow.paa. I have no reference to any num7.paa anywhere. So I just thought it was maybe a issue with one of the mods. My plan was to publish the mission live Monday and test it tomorrow with close friends. When trying to test the multiplayer today I got to the briefing screen it gave me the num7 error then everything stays fine. I can hover my mouse over icons like continue, close, and change ad-dons and they change color so my game has not frozen. But i cant click them im forced to restart game because pressing them and getting them to do anything wont work. I tested the mission a day or so ago in multipler so I had it working at one point, Im about to cry I literally spent around 45 hours on this mission. I went to another machine in my house and hosted it on that computer still same issue. I don't know what to do. please help! -Preston

and placing the landing craft and spawnable men with a  marker script ? I did that, so the ships  with a AI driver and waypoint is spawned. Although it is not respawnable, but you might make a script that checks if it is empty after  reaching the beach waypoint with an unload trigger.  When it is empty, you can delete the boat, and let the trigger create a new spawnable boat in the ocean. Maybe to sticky and tricky... just 2 cts

So far I have gotten the effect I want the mission is complete. Ive added enemy ai aircraft spawner, ai waves with way points, and  at the start of the mission make vehicles spawn on landing craft. Just having issues with rpt and getting the server to continue at briefing. Currently speaking with some smart guys on the editor and scripting forums they will help.

Wow, I can't believe that I'm going to be able to use one of my favorite weapons from ww2 in arma 3.  I can't wait to create some missions about the Operation Avalanche invasion.  So much hype.

I can come here and say single engine planes are better than multiple engine planes. Will you believe me? Probably not unless I show you facts. Show us facts.

Who cares which was better?

Both look beautiful! I hope, they will sound good as well. I will definitely try them all! :)

shoot some mags with both then report back...

9mm M38 cartridge was very effective till 200 meters and Mab was built like a carbine stock so was more precise to aim over long distance over 150 meters for a 9 mm

Even German troops liked the effective of this weapon over their mp40 and after 43 a lot of unit in Italy used it

But you compared it to the sten, not the MP40

Alex you just don't know a lot of Italian military...you never shooted with this kind of weapon and you live of preconcepts about italian army.

Take your sten and stick it up where you like...like his tendence to get jammed if you hold it from the magazine or becoming to hot if hold from near the barrel.

Also a lot of UK commandos preferred Thompson over the sten.

A lot of italian biography bot from partisan and people from RSI referred to the MAB38 as a far superior weapon over the sten

Woah woah, calm down. We can debate but lets try to keep it a civil...

We also have to take into account that sometimes a weapon can be better if someone specialises in using the weapon despite it being viewed as bad on either side.

In terms of holding the magazine or barrel, are you referring to the Sten MkII since I imagine that you were both saying "sten" rather than being specific in which case you can argue that the Sten MkV had the grip which allowed the avoidance of both the problems you just stated, however I am anything but a expert in both weapons or the Sten specifically since I simply don't own any living in Australia (not saying I can't but it's a lot of effort for someone living in a city), so I'm sure the Sten MkV came with it's own problems.

I ain't a Brit as I clearly state below my profile picture. I do not own a sten. I do not own any italian weapons. My dad is a Brit but was never enlisted in the British Army. I of course haven't shot any WW2 weapons because I don't need to shoot with them. It's not ilke I'll be handed one and be told "From now and on you'll use this". You need to watch your attidude. As Barden said we can debate in a civil manner and that's what I attempted to do which you obviously didn't like. A friendly debate is always good and fun but you've ruined it. I can like what I like, to me your Italian gun doesn't look as appealing as a Sten and it's pretty much the first time I see it in a game when I've seen the Sten a lot more times, hmmm why would that be. I do not care how it shoots since I will never be asked to shoot one or use one at all. You are also looking at this from the Italian point of view. You keep bringing up "Oh the Italian this and the Italian that", you should learn how to debate properly and look at other point of views as well. Did the Brits prefer your Italian gun? Probably not. Did the Americans prefer your Italian gun? Probably not. You see the Sten did come out after the MAB38 so I don't think the MAB38 would be better and superior at everything. It's like saying "Yeah the Abrams is a modern tank but I am sure the Sherman would beat it". You keep bringing other weapons into the debate too, you mentioned the MP40 when we were talking about the Sten and now you mention the Thompson. We are doing a Sten vs MAB38 debate here and you bring other random guns into it which is wrong.

To end this you are neither nice or friendly and you should change your attidude not only towards me because I am a moderator but to others too. If you are nice to a police man because you are afraid of the punishment but a proper arse to others that is hypocricy. So I don't want you to only be nicer to me but to others as well.

The Mab was a great weapon indeed, but we, as italians, are a bit biased. :f:
Jokes aside, don't take it too personal, there are a lot of funny jests about almost every army (and their equipment/vehicles) involved in WW2 and there's no reason to get mad.

P.S. The MAB was bulkier and heavier (it weighted almost 5 kgs when loaded) than other smgs. It compensated this drawback with high accuracy and reliability, along with commonly found ammunition. In expert hands, it allowed accurate short-bursts shooting up to 100 meters. The effective range (with Italian M38 ammunition) was 200 meters, but there's no record of anyone ever reaching that distance. A funny fact is that the vest designed to hold its mags resembled a japanese armour and people wearing it were called "samurai".

just joking lol. i always think it's awful when people call the french surrender monkeys, which was massive brit propaganda, as what actually happened in the fall of france, was that the belgians capitulated, leaving the british flank exposed, so the brits decided they would need to pull back to the coast, leaving the french flank exposed, and the french got flanked, and the rest is history. up til then french tanks were kicking sh** out of the mkII panzers. nobody remembers that though as they believe the blitzkrieg myth. a myth that suited everyone to believe. (for more info on this theory see here)

the only real bad press the italians got was from Rommel in north africa. he saw his allies as a massive waste of space. the brits played on this, and heavily emphasised italian surrenders and "proved their lack of will to fight" and as a result eventually, along with the german occupation, the italians decided to see sense and stand up to Hitler, which was a very brave act indeed.

just watched dunkirk movie - was awesome, made me think about all this stuff again.

Not the best narrator, nor production values but he raises some interesting points...

Totally agree with this eggbeast. As a child I knew a man who had fought right through North Africa and into Sicily and Italy and he told me that Italian soldiers fought hard and he hated it when people disparaged them saying it was  offensive to them and the Allied soldiers who fought them.
