Avaliable Q4 2012?

They never been so busy with so many projects, I really doubt that.

The release was alwasy scheduled for 2012 summer, not big deal on this. (Except for the fact that is already summer HERE, then....)

Wow a delay. I guess its first time I'm happy about the game delay, that will give A2 modders a bit of the boost to finish up stuff now ;)

hmm... I smell marketing.... Trying to stop the conflict with Carrier Command...:confused: .... 2012 Q4 isn't that the end of the world...damn.... so close..:p

I'm only speculating, I could be completely wrong!, but if BIS have taken the plunge and begun work on a more advanced lighting system, in conjunction with the introduction of the new animations and new PhysX engine, then I'm guessing that such a project would be significantly complex and would explain any delays.

Actually, Celery will deploy to the Mnisek Studio and link up with Team Mike, poste-haste.

Still, it's true that he hasn't made it through basic training, so, I concede, it would have been more appropriate to wait until (and if) he survives his induction. ;)

With luck, he'll soon be eligible to troll about all the things.

YES!

This means ArmA 3 will not only include dance animations, but I am willing to bet Celery is going to pull some strings to get some dedicated zombie animations thrown in! ;)

That and they already have Carrier Command coming in second quarter which would be a conflict would make more sense to give Arma 3 more time in the oven then to put 2 games out in the same release window.

plus Carrier Command has a pretty wicked lighting system in place already, i remember the term "god rays" used in the video.

I hope we can get the game Summer 2012 because then we only have 6 months left to play till the end of the world.

Thankfully there will be no god rays in ArmA3.

Have you actually seen the game engine and lighting used in Carrier Command? It actually looks really good. :eek: Especially considering that it is primarily a real-time strategy game.

I quickly researched 'God rays' alternative name 'volumetric lighting' and found that volumetric lighting requires more optimization to function in real time.

Ya, godrays are not realistic. ArmA3 should go for realistic looks, other games may go for beautiful eye-candy looks all they want.

if its overdone like in crisis, than yes it looks like the yellow brick road. however subtle ray casting would be good to add, but in reality you can only examine ray effects if the air is very dusty (like a dusty room with a window). Even then a rare occasion in the wild.

subtle would be good me thinks.

No, BIS are working on the hilarious achievement/skillpoint/killrate system:

- putting a sight on your weapon makes you instantly better

- small generators for portable shields

- supervision googles (formerly known as wallhack)

- new weapon barrels which can go through any solid material (clipping)

- improved AI psyop weapon aka "evil rabbit"

- other "hi-tech" features that makes player win 99,99999%

How else one can get new players into A3? ;)

It will give an effect like the world is filled with dust no matter how subtle. Remember that ridiculous effect in one of RTI videos when A-10 flies under a perfectly clear sky? No matter how subtle you will still notice this effect like sky is shooting rays.

Better without it.

BIS should improve the lighting system instead, not lighting shader effects which are different things.

I was just thinking about this as I was walking down my street the other day. It was cold and a bit hazy, you could clearly see each strong light source make "god" rays appear, and they weren't subtle at all... Moon, street lamps... all of these made them appear. Point is, they aren't unrealistic at all, just the circumstances under which they appear in some of the mentioned games. I don't mind a bit of an artistic approach though, as long as it looks good.

Keep the new underwater environment in mind ;)

I think anyone who has been diving knows crepuscular rays. In this case the light rays serve the purpose to give the water a better feeling of depth

yup, you notice those rays at the thermoclimes as well, so you can tell the difference in temp layers too.
