I highly doubt it's going to happen. Sorry to burst your bubble if you were expecting playing as a female character and running around in your underwear.

Do you mean in stockings, a thong and a shelf bra?

I fail to understand how this would in any way mean that Arma 3 will have female models.

Changes in gear are necessary in that they allow you to differentiate classes, factions, and functionality.

Changes in ethnicity do not require the creation of a new model with a new hitbox and new voice overs.

As for adding to immersion, it doesn't really make sense. This does not add to immersion, and not having females does not take away from immersion.

I'll repeat what I said originally:

There are a ton of arguments people have made as to why females shouldn't be in the game. However valid or invalid they may be, nobody has presented a good reason as to why females should be in the game.

If you don't understand why female models should be in the game, I doubt that giving any (great) reason will help. The biggest reason is the same reason why they have different ethnicities, to add diversity and to have people feel like they are represented. Some people will, in a game where the model is generic, want to make a character that represents them as well as possible. They want this because it helps the immersion. It's not like how it is in a game where the protagonist is a defined character. It's not asking too much to have the other ~50% of the worlds population represented in the game.

If that's not a good enough reason I don't know what is.

unless you are a woman (or are suffering from serious social issues) why would you care about such a thing?...I mean, are you a cross dresser or what?...sorry< i can totally understand women players asking for this absolutely...but I doubt there are more than 10 women worldwide who would consider themselves Arma/OFP fans. This is a game that's based 100% on killing, dying and survival...period...and adding women models just doesnt add or take away from that so I suppose I could care less either way.

They don't need a separate female model, they can just give players the female face option, and if they want to be authentic then have the 'no uniform' model switch to a female in shirt/boxers.

Otherwise with all the equipment on there's not much need to have a separate female body model than a male one. Just shrink its height a little.

Please stop the flame-baiting, thanks.

@ Lain

if that is true it tells me exactly the opposite about your statement int 2. So lets just presume there are woman who would like/wish to play a female char. Are you going to tell them it would be sexistic to let them, because they can enjoy it anyway?

That's not what I said. At all.

You are absolutly right that in what concerns gender-politics. The best way to become equal is not to care about gender to begin with. But! This - maby for political reasons-- only applies where gender dictates something on you. Let it be workplace related.. what so ever gender shouldnt matter in these situations.

Yes, exactly.

However it can be very well the other way round. Woman and men go both on toilets but also "gender doesnt matter" for reasons of privacy we still have bathrooms for males and females. At some point gender does matter.

This is a video game. Hardly as serious.

the reason more girls don't play video games is because of misogynistic mentalities like this -

Oh those poor girls. They can't play video games or enjoy things because what other people think of them is more important than their own enjoyment.

I find it laughable that you call others misogynistic, but turn around and say that females don't play video games because we're too concerned over what people think of us. As if the majority of girls are so vain? The number of female gamers has grown steadily to the point where it's almost equal with men (source) and it's not because female gamers are being coddled. It's because there are people who can genuinely enjoy games without pushing gender as if it matters. Believe me, all genuine female gamers hate the "OH GOSH LOOK AT ME I'M A GIRL WHO PLAYS GAMES" females who just do it for attention.

By the way, Misogyny = hatred of women. Saying that girls don't play video games is the same as saying boys aren't cheerleaders - would you turn around and call the latter statement Misandry?

It's a word so overused that many people don't even know what it means.

I personally don't give a toss if those camouflaged units feature a male or female face under their helmet. But I do care if this binds resources that could otherwise work on improving other in-game models such as vehicles, buildings etc. In that case don't do it; or if you do, don't expect any thank you other than from the 4 women worldwide who play Arma 3 :)

Cheers,

As far as i understand you argue that everyone inluding woman should only like the game mechanics aspekt of the game, when there are no differences between male and female character. And people assuming that women might like having female chars is a ridicules thought (even a sexist) one. Right?

In conclusion, every woman who would like to have such an option in game has to put up with it, because they should only be interested in game mechanics independently what they look like.

My problem with that is that you as well assume something here for some people such as woman but at the same time you deny everyone else the possibilty who doesnt simply do it. The example that came from this board, is for me some evidence that you cant decide what people like about a game only based on game mechanics.

So do we have any news if it's going to happen or not?

From what I've seen from the DayZ standalone, it looks a lot like their male survivors are lend from ArmA 3 and female skins are definitely included in DayZ. I see no reason why if DayZ lends assets from ArmA 3, ArmA 3 can't include female models too.

Browse through the slides in these two DayZ updates:

Because reasons out of our hands, I wouldn't be surprised if we see another island wherein a mysterious plague was killing off females, causing the remaining so to be evacuated and leave a land of warring males...or perhaps the females are locked under ground and so the males fight to protect their queens as though it were the end of days.

Either way, I doubt we'll be seeing women but at least we won't see some bullshit excuse of 'white knight' in the presence of abuse victims and escorts...shame..I was really hoping to have an undercover grandma mission.

If it doesn't happen, just wait for the addon. What's the big deal (except for the fact that the first female addon will likely be one consisting of prostitutes, for some weird reason)?

Well the issue, for me is that addons are not a standard piece of the game, and require custom tailored missions to be fully used.

While if it was part of the user profile, it would be like picking a custom face.

There are like what, at least 20 faces? Replacing a few of those with female faces shouldn't be such a hassle if it's that important.

Well what about bodies? Now that arma support wearables it's not as easy to make a passable job as it would have been in arma2.

If you wanna find problems, go ahead. I've suggested a fix for you if they don't add female soldiers, what more you want me to do?

I'd quite like to see female soldiers. I wouldn't ''mind'' seeing them at the front lines and IMO there should be more than handful as pilots , medics and all other kind of support roles. Would make the game feel way more diverse.

You know why the US DOD accepted this new woman in combat policy? So that Obama could have another "look at me I changed something, blah blah equality". You know why they knew they could do it? Because they did studies and found that the number of woman that would actually join in order to be a SPECOP or infantrymen is slim to nil!

A lot of feminist talk a big game but the minute they open the doors and say, sure come on in, they'll turn the other cheek. Someone said it in this thread, in Germany they have been open since 2001 and woman dont go that route. The most I can see is a woman wanting to be Air Force Pararescue or the rare butch beast joining the corps but in any case many women will not meet physical standards without the help of steroids. Its simply different biology.

Shit is so annoying to hear some gamer girl scream for this when in reality they may be some 200 ibs fatty who couldn't get out of her gaming chair let alone join the military. I don't mean to sound chauvinistic but this is the truth if you truly put your ego or desire to sound liberal/new age aside and look at the facts.
