Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion

Doubt they will be usable, BI would have mentioned it since every other topic is requesting this.

They can manage fine without it today, why wouldn't they in the future?

I just asked if a plain helmet would still be available.

I would prefer it being so.

Special Forces do use all that stuff. It to make things easier. The rails on the side of the helmet make it easier to attach stuff to it. It's not there for show. Just like the rails on M4s facilitate easier attachment of grips, flashlights, grenade launchers, etc. It's not all for display. Yes, there should be a plain MICH helmet (NO, not a PASGT helmet) in addition to the other helmets, and an option to go helmetless, and some other headgear besides helmets. But in no way should they remove the modern stuff (which all helmets except the tank crew helmet are) in favor of plain stuff. Because if that were the case, then they might as well make a new OFP or ArmA. But it's ArmA 3, set in 2035. You may not like the modern stuff, but you've got to face reality. This is the stuff that's currently being used. It's not just going to stop being used because someone or a few people can't let go of the past.

But the question is, is the biggest problem with A2 fixed. Explosions looking stupendously bad.

When I look at the years passing by, I expect the changes/transition from ArmA 2 to ArmA 3 similar to ArmA 1 to ArmA 2 because both games have a 3 years development cycle.

So it might still feel like ArmA and somehow like something different.

Ridiculously uinconvincing 2D billboards that 80% of time were in the wrong point in time.

Has something been confirmed about explosions in Arma 3? If not, why is it discussed in this thread?

That grenade looked closer to Blastcore than vanilla ArmA 2...

I think that might be the M14 EBR.

Not 100% sure but it dont look like a .50cal rifle.

If you look at it closely it has an ACOG scope.

The EBR has already been confirmed :)

I'm not gonna comment on Karel delievering only one photo(:D) from the recent "Press Start Vol. 2" event but rather kindly take a look at it.

In the description it says Martin was explaining the similarities of Arma 3 and VBS.

The screenshot is showing a remote-controlled IED device and a man-portable CRCIED system, like e.g. the THOR III.

THORIII.jpg

They can jamm IED's in a limited area and serve as the counterpart of the various new added explosive devices.

Hi, more of the same.

As you can see there... there's the M1014 bolt bug, present already on the ArmA2 since day 1, so seems that there gonna be the same weapons bugs on the ArmA3 that we've on the ArmA2, things like... the M24 and M40A3 using an M16 muzzle flash and things like that; maybe we gonna have too the bug with the G36 transparent magazines that cast no shadow and neither the bullets on 'em; that by the way... the plastic magazines on the G36 series are the parade magazines, the non transparent ones or the metalic ones are the battle magazines, but who cares...!? we gonna feel familiar with the new game as we gonna swallow some of the same bugs; isn't it great the care for the familiar feeling!?. Let's C ya

I understand most of your cynicism, but this is still in Alpha phase. Judge the finished product.

So, I wonder if this means Arma 3 will have M1911s with the sights still misaligned... ;)

AFAIK the M1911 don't only have that single bug, it also haves:

- The slide don't makes the whole trip backwards, blocks the chamber exit.

- The shadow is fixed, not connected with the slide anim.

This is the M1014 bolt bug:

ArmA2_bug_60.jpg

The M40A3 Muzzle Flash bug:

ArmA2_bug_61.jpg

The Smoke Direction Bug:

ArmA2_bug_56.jpg

So... you've to be attending for those because we have 'em on the ArmA2 and if they don't fix the models and export 'em directly to the ArmA3... then we gonna have to swallow again the exact same bugs that we we've on the ArmA2 rightnow.

Other thing that you can notice on that video that i'd posted the link to, is the 'micro-flicker' with the lighting changes and the reversed lighting; when you look to the covered light source... your HDR makes it all brighter when it shouldn't, at if you put the sun at your back... everything looks darker; i hope that they change this last thing at least, is a game breaking issue on the ArmA2 that unables you to play at certain day times by hours and only affect the players as the AI isn't affected. I have few faith on the ArmA3 when i keep seeing the same bugs on the released videos and screenshots, but there's a long road ahead so some could be fixed.

I don't know if this was discussed before but does somebody know if Arma 3 will be 64 bit? AFAIK it would solve the data streaming problem, people tend to have 6-8 gigs of ram today, why not put it to use. Even 2-3 GB would suffice.

it most likely won't be 64bit native (at least acording to recent comments by dwarden)...but will be LAA

Partially this assumption that recompiling the entire program will be "simple."
