The predicted technological progress in RR:

They still don't recognize roads, have any movement prediction, and can't shoot anything without hacks.

They don't recoginize roads, for point. They're crap at CQB, and those "hacks" are the exact same thing as changing the accuracy via a script in the Init line of a unit in A2. They're just re-writing the AI accuracy files to make them more accurate.

But the real test is how they work together, I mean, Place down 2 "squad" level teams. Order one to assault an area, then order the other to "defend" the area. And watch the way they do it. Thats where DR's AI shines.

And I still belive that if they made the actual AI mechanics of actually engaging the target and smaller-scale fighting better, it could be some of the best AI i've seen.

Funnily enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually said that good old line again in a RR interview.

By the way, Ben, that video you linked to about people laughing at DR's physics; at least we got it fixed. ;)

Oh yee days of old... ArmA's release was a funny time... That video was one of many that made it so. :p

RealVirtuality doesn't actually have much of a physics engine yet. DR however was based on an engine used to make racing games before it, and was even advertised to have incorporated HAVOK physics, yet you run into a rock at an average speed and you'll be sent flying. At least RealVirtuality doesn't pretend to be something it isn't.

Why is it that at least several 'people' (and I use that term loosely) over on the CM forums have been saying that Co-Op isn't MP? Last time I checked, Co-Op means you have several players working together, thus making it multiplayer.

As I mentioned before, 90% of their forum comprises of people I'd expect to see on a Call of Duty forum, thus they think the only MP is competitive MP.

Good point.

Also, another thing that amuses me is the mass debate over the M16/M4, and how they won't be able to tell the difference. So, the fact that one is shorter and has a completely different stock doesn't give it away?

Yup, we've gone over that one already. It was actually Sion himself, go figure, who said that they made all these weird modifications to the M16A2 to distinguish it better from the M4. I'm surprised he didn't tell them to put the carrying handle near the barrel of the M4...

That'll teach me to spend a few days away from the forums. :p

The mission editor was pretty good, and about the only thing that game, DR, a chance. Real bad to hear that has been taken out.

Look at Sniper Ghost Warrior. It uses the chrome engine like Call of Juarez. If they had of released a similar editor as COJ2, would anyone pay for the new 5 map pack @ £9.99?

Predicts a lot of DLC for RR, maybe some free, but for sure, new campaigns and stuff at a cost. Stuff they could not get away with if they released a new editor.

Waits for news of the new Ghost Recon to have no modding tools... :(

BIS should include an M4 in the next patch with the carrying handle placed like that :yay:

"M4 Mk.Sion", make it just as useless and unreliable as Lenton himself.

To play the devil's advocate, I think that they were probably thinking about the m16 vs. m4 thing not as an issue with recognition, but as an issue with characterization. I think they are going for visual interest.

Yup, the ones who can't recognize roads, can't predict an enemy's movements, can't shoot an enemy without wasting 3 magazines, and can't think without that weird... What was it called. Something you had to place in the editor to make them actually function properly, or slightly better at least. Oh, and now your game is being limited to "slightly larger corridors" and pre-scripted events. We feel very disappointed, I assure you.

FPDR

Our disappointment lies in the horrendous business ethics of ComedyMasters, and the raping of the Operation Flashpoint name.

Nah, Max, Lenton & Co. would end up selling weapons that only have an effect on "the bad guys". Because shooting "the good guys" is apparently morally objectionable in war.

I'm just dissapointed we actually get to pilot helicopters and fixed wing, I mean. How unfair it is to us to have this option and how dare the developers make the helicopters functional with displays that tell me my direction and pitch, if I wanted to fly helicopters I'd play modern warfare 2.

Ah you Asshole! My side hurts now.

:ok:

That was just cold.

@Zipper5 you do have a very valid point with the AI, blowing it gives the "illusion" that its Super 1337 but in reality its pure FAIL, the AI needs hacks otherwise it operates exactly how Zipper stated.

That other forum is very depressing to read, ugh it just shows how someone is stupid enough to spend 60 dollars on a rail shooter with a 10 mission campaign with no actual substance.

CM cant make up for any of the missing features RR is already Dead and it hasnt even been born yet. FPDR

Just quietly most of the people on this thread were stupid enough to buy the game, even some of the most obsessive haters... but they'll say things like, i only played it once and threw it in the bin, or i gave it away etc etc because, thats where the shearing sheds are? :p

Well i brought it, i liked it, dont love it but like it better than most, its just a game to me like all the hundred others ive wasted money on, except for mafia/gta/stalker and of course all the arma series... including 3 re-purchases of OFP over a decade!

My missus and most of my friends thinks im "stupid" cos i spend all my spare time with this (Arma) game!

Im starting to think they are right.... but i just cant help it :D

Nothing quiet or secretive about it. I for one bought DR on release, because I thought it might be at least a fairly decent "Hollywood" action corridor shooter, akin to COD MW. Turned out I was wrong, but at least now I can say from experience that DR is a turd.

I remember that time, i had "convinced" too :D my parents that we needed a thomson computer for following the education system correctly.

How much time i spent typing those lots of pages of BASIC lines that were printed in magazines.

I remember the longest one that was about some inverted concept of space invaders : you were a plane going from left to right (no control from you) and had to press a key to drop a bomb and try to level the buildings below.

The time it took me to type all of this for the result it was, was insane :D

Fun old times.

Bloody hell yes, i remember this (i had an olivetti / bull computer ), and we had to buy big magazines with hundred of pages of basic codes. I remember a labyrinth game for which i had to type 30 pages of codes, and which where basically asking you questions : do you want to (1) go left (2) go right (3) fight the monster etc.

I call bullshit.

DR isn't optimized or balanced for animals!

Nah, didn't you hear? They were all evacuated. Those many towns and villages on Skira were all loaded onto some country's ships and sailed to unspecified-land, and that included the animals. You know, just like in a real war.
