sickboy 13 Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) Sorry but that's untrue. Have a read on rsync: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rsync Also see examples: http://six.dev-heaven.net/wagn/Six_Updater_Suite+examples (Or my posts in A&M Complete Threads; I usually include the transfer logs in spoilers) And: http://dev-heaven.net/news/show/237 No need to run the web-gui if you prefer otherwise either: http://six.dev-heaven.net/wagn/Six_Updater_Suite+Commandline or more ACE specific: http://ace.dev-heaven.net/wagn/Installation+advanced Also there's plenty of mirrors, if you know which are slow for you, disable them in Configuration -> Mirrors, and use the mirrors that are fast for you. I'll agree to one thing though; The GUI probably _IS_ horrible. If you have some wishes / ideas: http://dev-heaven.net/projects/six-arma-updater/issues Working on Boot-Up speed too. SVN has maybe a nice UI, but that's about it, superseeded by Hg, Git, etc :) http://whygitisbetterthanx.com/ I actually even started with Git but this has issues with large files, especially on Windows, while rsync offers the same amazing delta compression, and is especially tailored for syncing lots and large files, efficiently. Besides, SVN offers nothing for launching arma with mods, updating userconfig or key files, nor does it access gamespy, and allow you to join any server with automatically required mods selected if installed on your system or otherwise available on the network, and other things the Updater Suite does offer :) Edited June 8, 2010 by Sickboy
M.Andersson(SWE) 4 Posted June 8, 2010 Well, i prefer YOMA addonsync.. I find that to be easier for me..
jw custom 56 Posted June 8, 2010 No offence to the developers of 6-updater, but it's horrible. Yes for people who doesn't bother read the documentation. Six updater works great for me and i get a good dl speed.
whisper 0 Posted June 8, 2010 Suggestion:No offence to the developers of 6-updater, but it's horrible. I highly recommend/suggest that the ACE developers switch over to SVN, due to more functionality, easier to use and doesn't require starting a program, waiting for a browser tab to open and then a slow DL to start. I've also noticed that even when a small change is made, 6-updater seems to download stuff again (weapons etc, please correct me if I'm wrong). SVN does not do this, it's also got a more fancy GUI <3 Rsync not only doesn't download unchanged files, it only downloads the diff between older and newer version. Huge bandwidth gain compared to... basically anything else.
Univ 10 Posted June 8, 2010 Hello, is it possible to add laser designator LD to Harrier/A10/Su bombs ? Of course they all got one irl. So far there is LD only for some missiles, but not for bombs.
PacX 10 Posted June 8, 2010 Yes for people who doesn't bother read the documentation. Six updater works great for me and i get a good dl speed. It needs to be userfriendly, it seems so messy at the moment. In SVN you just right click on a folder and press a button, now you are updating. 6-updater is just silly in my humble opinion. If you don't like the SIX updater use the Yoma Addon Sync repositories. But one thing that will never ever happen is SVN. I'm getting tired of reading the same bla over and over again. sabre4809 0 Posted June 8, 2010 Yeah, I hated 6 updater till I just sat with it for +/- 10 mins getting sorted, now it saves me lots of bandwidth and is actually easy to use.

jw custom 56 Posted June 8, 2010 It needs to be userfriendly, it seems so messy at the moment. Again, yes for those who can't be bothered spending a little time reading the documentation. I always update through the web gui: 1. i start six updater 2. i click update How non-userfriendly is that

jw custom 56 Posted June 8, 2010 and if your even more clevier a simple click on the console shortcut sit back and watch it download The console updater checks everything while the web gui updater has the auto skip feature :)
Inkompetent 0 Posted June 8, 2010 I highly recommend/suggest that the ACE developers switch over to SVN, ... ACE devs actually used SVN for ACE1, but moved AWAY from it because it was too bad (for the repository) to keep using, instead moving over to Git ;)

nobrainer 0 Posted June 9, 2010 RC1 and Stable - is those probably the same files now? Having a private LAN for 17 people this weekend but no internet connection. So I'm wondering if my efforts to provide ACE2 v1.2 would not be wasted for those guys? Allready running stable 1.
sickboy 13 Posted June 9, 2010 1.2 RC1 and 1.1 Stable? No. There's a big chance 1.2 RC1 becomes 1.2 Stable though. @Univ; see first post.
