Just want to say: Thank You BIS!

Recommended Posts

Been buying arma editions since arma 1 which to this day even with my x4 965 and a 4850 radeon still runs like crap, however since Arma II it runs flawless on my rig.

I have not bought arma II OA yet!, i played it on my friends comp which is similar to mine and it runs smooth on high/very high settings.

Just wanted to thank you for the great titles and keep up the good work!

OA looks awesome and i noticed a lot has changed graphic and game play

BIS, I can't thank you enough for an incredible game. I almost feel lucky I didn't come upon it until earlier this year as it means I get to enjoy the combined efforts of many years of effort by you and the community. If you keep producing content for the ArmA series, I'll keep buying. :)

Yes, thanks BIS for all the great games and add-ons.

Played them all, and currently waiting for Arrowhead

(which seems out of stock everywhere in the Netherlands)

Anyway... Keep up the good work!

for making a game that easily goes into my favourites stack and sending me printed maps half way across the world! I've already made two people buy Arma2 from my recommendations :p

Keep up the great work :D

Yeah, from time to time, I feel the need to say 'Thank you' again.

It's so amazing that BI games keep me away from doing any other games since 2001.

And with OA I got the feeling of the famous ol' atmosphere of the first and one and only original BI - Operation Flashpoint again.

Thank you!

(I just read that the idea of BIS the one of immensely open games are goin' to get copied more and more by competitors of BI Studios now. Their marketing specialists will soon begin to betray the world saying that THEY invented this great idea. They will do a lot shiny covers, pay for 'good reviews' and people will get mislead. That's the world, many people would even sell their own mothers ... ).

I hope that BIS will always be know of THE ONES who opened the virtual world of combat to people, like it says in my signature.

As far as I'm concerned, this game is what I would consider a true PC game.

Just thought I'd stop by to say, like I've said a few times in the past, it's sometimes the little things that make all the difference.

A few weeks ago, I had a small LAN session going. It was me, my younger brother(who bought his copy around the same time I did), another friend(who I convinced to buy the game during the Sprocket Thanksgiving sale, after missing the Steam one. Wouldn't have happened otherwise, so, thanks for having that sale), and an old buddy of mine from the Air Force(who knew about the game, but never played it).

We played a bunch of games on Steam, L4D and all those. After that, our other friend went off to play some Gran Turismo 5(he'd just bought it, along with a racing wheel), while my brother started up his copy of ARMA. That's when I thought, "wait a sec." and I asked him if he wanted to test a custom mission with our Airman friend, he said "let's do it." My friend also agreed to try it out. I started up ARMA, went into the editor, loaded up my mission, and asked him what kind of loadout he wanted(it was a simple "terrorist hunt"-styled mission, like the ones I used to play in the old Ghost Recon), and he picked some sniping equipment. Thermal scope and everything. So, I let my friend use my computer, and watched them fire up the mission. When they got into a firefight, almost immediately, my friend realized he was going to have trouble taking anyone out with that rifle (my fault. I had them start out too close to the village for sniping). So, I went back into the editor and gave his unit an M16 with an ACOG. They tried it again, and sure enough, the new loadout was just right for that mission, and he did much better this time. He was really getting into it, pointing out targets and whatnot. They cleared the village, grabbed a few satchels from some ammo crates, took a few tanks out, and finally completed the mission.

I asked my friend what he thought about the difficulty, he said it wasn't too bad. Then I asked him if I used too much fog. He said the fog was fine, the only thing bugging him was the sun. told him we could fix that. He liked the mission, overall.

Then, a few days later, while I was talking to that same friend, I remembered something. When we watched The Expendables, he got all excited when they showed the AA-12. So, I told him, "you know what, man? I forgot to mention that we have the AA-12 in the game, now." and right away, he said, "Nice." and I started laughing. All confused, he asked, "what?" I said, "nothing, just remembered something funny." He said, "oh. well, I'm gonna buy that game, now." He actually liked the game enough that he offered to rent a Ventrilo server for when we all play. I said, "right on. I'll have to get back to making more missions, then."

While I'm sure my Airman friend was going to buy ARMA, anyway(after showing him that mission), adding the AA-12 to the game made it much easier for me to convince one more person to play it.

So, again, thanks for that Thanksgiving sale, and the DLC, guys. Looking forward to more of the same(and, well, different too. why not? (Carrier Command)).

(TLDR: Got more people to join me in these games with the help of your sales and DLC. Thanks.)

(Copied from a thread I made in the General discussion area)

I know this has been said to death (and rightfully so), but I wanted to take a moment and express my own thanks and 'applause' to both the Arma2 team and all the makers of the mods I am currently using.

Arma2 is really an incredible piece of work on its own, not only in the incredible feat that it accomplishes (for the most part!)... controlling what truly is chaos! The open world and complexity of the various elements boggles the mind, as far as how many things (that are normally taken for granted) have to be considered and coded... yet the team really managed it.

The AI has been criticized by some, but personally, I've been impressed, for the most part. Sure, you get some WTF moments, but considering the complexity of the world and all the things each unit has to interact with (convincingly), it's amazing that it accomplishes so much already.

The sim is incredible value, too... Even to this day, I 'discover' new parts of the sim I haven't explored yet. Just as an infantry simulator alone, it's impressive, but throw in the huge variety of vehicals (air, land, water), and it's even more impressive. Granted, it's not (for example) a full flight sim... but what IS there is immersive and entertaining. Flying a copter around the vast world alone is quite an experience... and I still remember my surprise and the 'wow' factor with each new vehical I discovered... 'What? You can fly an A-10?! Huh?! You can fly that BIG plane sitting there, too!?!'

And then there's the Armoury, and how that even throws mini-missions at you... and lets you try even civilian vehicals, if you feel so inclined.... and have a nice drive through the country (which is so beautifully rendered, it's actually worth it!)...giving you even more options... and the multiplayer... and so on.

Heck, it's also a rabbit simulator!

Then, of course, all the mods... making the experience even more incredible.

I've just installed a few, and played a session... complete with a TrackIR... and it's nothing short of stunning. The immersion is amazing... the tension, the battle around you... The people who immediately wrote Arma2 off as 'a boring lay in the grass' really didn't give it a chance. The amazing amount of wow moments are surprising, considering that this is not some pre-scripted piece of animation that the player walks through (...you know the games I'm talking about!).

So, ya, it's been said many times before... and arguably schmaltzy.... but I really want to applaud the Arma2 team and the modders. It's great to see a game of solid quality, value and depth.

...now, I'll get back to asking about issues people already asked about 100 times before, and other annoying posts.

Cheers!
