ARMA II Beta Builds Released: Latest version/build: 1.04.6xxxx

Recommended Posts

Sweet new beta, going to download it. Hopefully they work this time, I think the problem I had earlier was a corrupt registry key, which was messing with the game reading the version. Anyway, downloading now!

How much/little value should we test on that "GPU_MaxFramesAhead=N"?

How much/little value should we test on that "GPU_MaxFramesAhead=N"?

EDIT:

I think that is the same as Pre Rendered frames. It is good for those who cant access it and helps yet a bunch of people. However it doesnt help me who had no issues from start. People complained and got ARMA2 in good shape - i did not complain and got the other way around.

Cant you make a button that sets the mouse back to good old days? And let the smoother be there as well. Im guessing its not possible. The skipping i get (as others) is weirdly enough un-affected by PreRenderFrames. No matter if i go 8 or 1 its the same in 1.04. The heavy skipping doesnt change i mean.

EDIT(again): After starting ARMA2 Latest beta and checking the ARMA2.CFG it added this:

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3;

Would be nice to know some values to move within. Seems corny to just add some numbers. Lower value is less skippy and higher more skip? Or the other way around?

Thanks though BIS i have a feeling this might be what will settle this once and for all. :)

Have you tried dragging the mouse smoothing thingy to max in Arma2-settings?

Tjena. :)

Yes ive tried a lot of things. However - It seems this beta can do some good in this area. The general feel right now (without action) is very very smooth for me. :)

Im doing tests atm and found one disturbing thing: There is something flickering (light). I notice it in the menu first, and its when i have post processing on i can see it clearly (LOW), it seems there is something in the sky/top screen that flashes so the whole screen flashes irregulary. In the menu it looks like the first horizontal resolution pixel (line one of 1024x768) is flashing so thanks to HDR combined with Post Processing effects it makes the whole screen flash.

In the game itself the screen does not flash, but i can see on my weapon it reflects something flashing in the sky(?). Will check more.

No addons - v59210 - windowed 1024x768. (will check without windowed mode)

EDIT: Way too late for me to do this. I just remembered i dont have -mod=beta in my target... idiot.

EDIT: Tophe, maximum smoothing in the control menu makes me unable to move the mouse. It sticks when i move faster than very slow. So not an option.

Latest Beta is Fail, first beta to have any negative effects for me:confused:

Loaded up with pre beta settings, and had constant strobing / screen flashing

in the LHD view.

Went into editor, and found all texture strobing like a Xmas tree.

Turned Post Process OFF and it minimised the problem.

ATI user severely effected by 59210:butbut:

for some reason i can't install the latest 1.04 beta patch, it says game version 1.04 required and my current version is 1.03. but i already had updated to the 1.04 patch earlier.

found what the problem was, had to delete the previous beta folder and now able to install this.

@SNR:

Did you read my post before yours?

I just remembered i dont have -mod=beta in my target line... idiot.

Check that.

EDIT:

Ryan, UNINSTALL previous BETA and then install the latest (reason to why it gives you such an error). You should have a beta uninstaller in your arma2 folder. (If not - download the latest beta and use the uninstaller in that package. Just unpack/drag to your ARMA2 root folder and keep it there - it works for all beta's).

Try 0 or 1 for GPU_MaxFramesAhead to remove mouse lag.

0 might cause FPS issues though.

You should see similar behavior in terms of improved mouse movement like with cpuCount=1.

Just set Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames=2 in nV CP or use ATT for ATI and set Flip Queue Size=2 ;)

Im playing with the other value atm. The "1000" one. Raising it gave some interesting results - i think. MaxFramesAhead like i said i already have in Nvidia CPL.

Might start to be better though - maybe. Need more testing.

Not so effective. In my experience GPU_MaxFramesAhead=0 gives best results. A setting that I can't set using ATT, the drivers use a setting of 3 when I try that even though it shows as 0.

Wow ok. That is set to 1000 per default by BIS. I tested 1500 and found it nice lol. Maybe just imagined it. The Pre Rendered Frames i had set to "1" in Nvidia Cpl for ARMA2 before BIS started changing the mouse, and it made ARMA2 fast and direct.

Now it doesnt matter what i do (v1.04). High or low - no noticeable change. However the beta now seems to give us the tools to maybe get something going.

Will test your "0" idea.

EDIT: Tested. Ok for me that is a no go with the "0". It made me lag heaps. I was very pleased to see how much it does change things though wich is good. :) I tested to set it to 500 (just for kicks to see what happens), and 500 really made my game smooth. I mean it was like night and day. Im not done testing though and will keep checking where everything is best for me personally.

But to everyone that tests the latest beta 59210: Make sure you change those settings around to see where you get most out of the game.

The values is in the ARMA2.CFG file called:

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3;

Change both settings around a bit and see. Very low on the first made me lag, but it might be good for someone else.

Can i ask what GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3; does? as i have chanage the FramesAhead to 0 and didnt see any difference

I think the game uses the value from GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=Ñ…; and in my case game "see" true value from nV CP.

Please people read closely ..

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=0/1/2/3; are reasonable values. 3 is driver default.

This setting is very similar, yet not exactly the same as Pre-Rendered Frames / Flip Queue Size.

Especially a zero value is not meaningful for the later, yet might work for the arma2.cfg setting just fine.

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3;

These two are only for information.

1000 means for BI not set.

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead is the driver value of Pre-Rendered Frames / Flip Queue Size.

Wich one is used over wich (Detect/PreRender)? Windows one or game one?

Sorry maybe blurry question. If i have it set to 3 in windows, will that over ride the games (CFG) value or vice versa?

Would I be correct in assuming that the GPU_MaxFramesAhead parameter is only useful with VSync activated?

The newest Beta-Patch causes a lot of problems on my system (i use this graficcard: Powercolor HD 4870 pcs+ with the newest software)

To compare Patch 1.04.59026 and Beta-Patch 1.04.59210, i made 2 vids each for the same situations:

I saw the community bugtracker on dev heaven.If you are registrated can u open bugtickets by yourself?-how?

Click on "New issue" in the main menu bar; the one with Overview, Activity, Roadmap, Issues, New issue, Wiki.

Make sure the subject you enter is descriptive without being an epic novel, so it's easy for others to skim the lists and see what it is about with only the subject.

Leave Status, Priority, Assigned to and Target version at their defaults as the people that manage the tracker will set them appropriately.

Oh and of course, do a few searches using different terms to see if anyone else has already reported the issue before adding a new one.
