icehollow 0 Posted December 12, 2007 What happened to the talk of animals in ArmA? I remember some rich discussions about bears, deers, dogs, etc. Anyone in the know?
mrj-fin 0 Posted December 12, 2007 There is some flys and birds and dont u count them as an animals? There was no mention that there will be 100% sure rabbits or any bigger mammals. They will be appear in ArmA2. BIS maybe didnt had enought time to implement them into ArmA.
wika_woo 182 Posted December 12, 2007 There are some being made, but there all in a standing position, there's no animations made for the animals yet. Although i'd like to see a grizzly do kung fu some day
frederf 0 Posted December 12, 2007 About 10 days after release BIS said something like "was working on rabbits, didn't finish, will do later." It's now later.
Col. Faulkner 0 Posted December 12, 2007 Why do you want fauna? They still have to get the humans right.
max power 21 Posted December 12, 2007 Animals will be in arma 2. I wouldn't count on them for arma.
sparks50 0 Posted December 12, 2007 Why do you want fauna? They still have to get the humans right. it would help the map feeling less dead
wika_woo 182 Posted December 12, 2007 Well there's some rabbits released for ArmA. Placing Loads of land mines and rabbits will certainly liven up your arma map.

They will be appear in ArmA2. BIS maybe didnt had enought time to implement them into ArmA. be carefull what you say, as I remember there will not be bigger mamals then rabbits and such because they will be randomly placed just like the birds now. it may appear strange to walk by a field full of cows one time and it being totally empty the next ( i don't know how the system works, this is what i've read ) just because you've looked the other direction for a while, ninja cows offcourse this is not an assault to you, more so that the rest of the people who read this will not come and read this and start hoping to hunt some deer or bears in ArmA II and be dissapointed
icehollow 0 Posted December 13, 2007 Even if larger animals didn't work with the randomization, it'd still be nice to have access to animals in the editor so we could place them where we want them or randomized in a certain area. *sigh* Would be nice with something like VTE. Patrolling through the jungle when all of the sudden Tiger jumps out of the long grass, cue apocalypse now scene of sprinting back to the boat. "always stay in the boat" :P
smellyjelly 0 Posted December 13, 2007 I think they just meant that you'd have to manually place the larger animals from the editor instead of them randomly appearing.
wika_woo 182 Posted December 13, 2007 Putting up with the insects like dragon flies are bad enough. Imagine if your flying across a desert in a littlebird and you see a herd of bisons, imagine the FPS drop.. lol
max power 21 Posted December 13, 2007 There's information enough on the map to be able to intelligently place animals. The island itself is made up of zones that dictate where plants grow and such. I don't think it would be impossible to program some rules as to where and how many animals of some type show up.. But I wouldn't worry about it because I don't think you'll see that in ArmA. It would be pretty cool to see herds of sheep and stuff, tho. Then you could be like those blackwater rednecks and gun down livestock from a moving helicopter for the hell of it. LeftSkidLow 1 Posted December 13, 2007 I can see it now, animals scripted to carry stinger missiles attacking and invading the evo spawn. If you don't understand that statement, you won't understand why animals are very low on the priority list for BIS.

CanadianTerror 0 Posted December 13, 2007 I remember thinking how cool the animals disk for vbs1 would be to liven up the map. I think i went rabbit hunting once (with an AT4) and that was about it.

lee_h._oswald 0 Posted December 13, 2007 i wonder who would actually want to make all the animations with the tiger  Maybe the dog anims from VBS1 animal pack work for the tiger. Too bad it's not allowed to import them.. MfG Lee
khayes 0 Posted December 13, 2007 a french guy, Lodu, is working on an animal pack, including animations, check the videos click click
lt.chris 0 Posted December 13, 2007 having randomised animals i dont think is a good idea despite it being a good idea i do personally see its problems happening take this as an example "we have a contact in the base , ah bloody giraffe has got in the way again" but i dont understand why people are complaing about the island being "dead" becuase ofp had no animal life whatsoever and no one as far as i am concerning was complaining about the lack of life remeber arma is based as a war-sim and its up to myslef/you/mission makers/addon makers/community/ to improve arma its not everything on a shining plate like EA lads
wamingo 1 Posted December 13, 2007 If the game feels un-lively surely it's because there's never any civilians to fill up all the space...
Commando84 0 Posted December 13, 2007 yeah missions get alot more lively with civilians moving about randomlingly or running for cover when the action gets started in a city... i remember some of the bas addons for ofp had some great missions that came along at the same time togheter with the addons. I'm quite confident soldiers/operators have had encounters with the local flora and fauna in almost every conflict we can think of, they might not have always been a problem of course but they're still there. Some of the animals that I think are essential are ones like sharks, crocodiles etc. Another is flocks of birds that would flee from trees when players neared , similar to BF2 .
