nephilim 0 Posted December 12, 2007 @Neon jungle terrain mud would be even darker and desert more light and more desaturated @Minon for a highpoly reference model its cool but its still too less polys :P for an ingame model its way too much

Pathy 0 Posted December 13, 2007 I was just wondering if I could finally "lay the cards" with the bigboys such as SmileyNick (Terrain Artist). It's the South end of the Cordillera Huayhuash mountain range in Peru. Pretty barren land, alot of scrub, rocks and scree. Infantry paradise
nephilim 0 Posted December 13, 2007 there indeed is a branch for terrain artists.. but theyre usually called level designers its quite a demanding field that shouldnt be underestimated

max power 21 Posted December 13, 2007 Someone, please help! How i can do model with many objects united ? I need monolit model, without pieces. Using 3DMax (5) Do you mean a water tight model without any subobjects? Sounds like a job for extrusion modelling if it's a very complicated shape. What are you trying to model, and do you have many pieces you want to make into one or do you have a multi-pieced thing you are trying to model in one piece? Usually, it's best to model things as they are (or would be) constructed in reality. If you have many pieces you are trying to fuse together into a single mesh, that's a complicated and crappy process. You can try booleaning it together or cutting some faces off of each object then welding them together.. but in both cases you're going to have to alter the mesh flow on both objects rather extensively in all likelihood. Prydain 1 Posted December 13, 2007 I was just wondering if I could finally "lay the cards" with the bigboys such as SmileyNick (Terrain Artist). I was thinking about making a map. It will be shit, if ever made. But first I am developing a coterie of demented and quite disturbed players to help hunt down a cirtain cunt with one persistent emotion. abs 2 Posted December 13, 2007 Can't you just attach the objects? How ? In 3DS max, select one part (Make sure you've converted them to polygons). Then, look at the buttons on the right side of the screen. - one of them says attach. Click it, and then select all the other pieces you want to include in the model to make it "one piece". icebreakr 3159 Posted December 14, 2007 For all map artists: bear in mind that we mainly don't need huge terrains, we need good maps with lots of details. Fine example is Sakakah that needs a lot of work when creating a new mission with adding all the details that should already be there. Make smaller maps for example villagers with up to 10 houses (entrable) and good road connections. Usually COOP missions are played in an area of less than 1x1km square... Pathy 0 Posted December 14, 2007 For all armchair critics: Bear in mind that some of us make things for our own enjoyment and will do what the hell we like, regardless of what anyone else wants or thinks. You lot are just often benificiaries in that you get something you wouldnt otherwise have had (even if you think it could be better if the maker had only done X and Y...). If you want something that nobody else is offering, stop complaining about how hard done by you are that people give thier time for free to provide you with something you don't have to do anything to get hold of, and get making. And i'm not sure who you play coop with but we certainly use more than 1km square area for most of our coop missions.
