why do you need so much beveling on the hood edges??

youd be better of using like 2-max 3 bevels for that.

rest is done via normals

invest those polys into the wheels

here´s a paintover if you dont mind

remember to terminate cut in details edges/verts/polys as soon as possible

i know its just a wip but im pointin it out for the others too.

invest more polys in bigger things

eg tires are bigger and therefore need more polys to appear round.

a pipe can easily have like 5 -7 segments to appear round

or even less

.. why the hell arent those stupid thumbnails not workin again..GRRR

Don't forget that faces can have a maximum of four edges. I made that mistake on my first model, and spent a LONG time fixing it. wink_o.gif

i actually tried :P but im way too lazy writing

plus usually such tutorials are way to generic anyway and often certain models are a case to case thing

but ill guess ill come up with some stuff in the next days if you all say please wink_o.gif

yes

all game apps convert to tris.

they calculate faster.

in other apps like MAX or whatever you can have so called meta- or n-gons.

polygons that share multiple sides eg 5 sided.

however these are usually a pain in the arse cause the pc will always divide it into tris, but since a pc isnt smart he doesnt know how it looks good wink_o.gif

In 3d, all poligonal shapes are made of one or more triangles. The whole n-gon thing is just an issue of visualization. You should know this. Sometimes programs use this visualization to help decide how to subdivide edges, but at the end of the day, they are just functions affecting triangles based on some other factors.

Take a quad laying on the x,z plane in maya, take two opposite corners, and translate them in the y direction. You'll notice that they are triangulated by the way the quad deforms. Now undo that, and take the other corners. You'll notice that the hypotenuse edge between the two triangles is consistent. ALL non tri poligons are made up of invisible edges that form triangles, full stop.
