2nd Beta 1.07.5157 feedback thread

First impression is good, concerning the GF8800 problems.

Flying with the A-10 at 5000m viewdistance over sahrani.

Low fps but no texture problems so far.

I will test some more and report here if something special happens.

i havnt tried it yet....

but id like to make a wish for the next beta or patch....

make the AI act as a group and not as a bunch of individuals...

and in the group they should act in pairs..

i want AI to cover eachothers movements,

use whatever covers available..

fire in detected enemies direction when their "buddy" is moving.

and if possible use real life tactics... like half the squad moves forward and the other half supports, and when the first half stops (after about 10-15m) the second half advance so they are 10-15m in front of the first half and so on...

and ofcourse other tactics...

this game could and should imo be more of a MilSim (Military Simulation) then a traditional "first person shooter game" as it tend to be right now...

especially if you give the AI the highest skill it will use real life tactics...

5156 - New: Cheat Shift+Minus FLUSH to allow to manually flushing all VRAM allocations to restore performance if needed.

this one is interesting, i wonder how it work(and what it will cause) icon_rolleyes.gif

anyway if this works, well i could stay at normal ALAP inorder to have 3 hours of smooth gameplay

I can only describe the patch as Magnificent. Thank you kindly Devs@BIS!

System: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2x 3.33ghz, 2GB DDR2-800, GF 8800 GTX 768mb.

Settings: 1600x1200@100hz, Very High, Viewdistance 5000m

XP32, 158.22, First Impressions (~45 Minutes play):

NO Lod Problems

Not even textures loading at all or must be in Miliseconds!!

The amazing thing... Testing with my AI-Manager Demo Mission, ~250 generated AI Units, vehicles etc.. Moving, scanning, script logics the whole bunch... Usually when I test this in my ingame server, Especially on Sarahni with cities... it has a low FPS ~15 and texture issues all the time... I thought it was the effect of running ingame server with all the scripts and units etc, but these problems are actually gone now!

Also, switching camera positions between 2 locations, even when they are greater distances away from eachother ~1km+ show nearly no textures loading/lods changing, or maybe better described as 'instantly'/'within ms'

I'm using the troopmon by Charanos, jumping from group to group, spectating one after the other, Vehicles, Infantry, near water, going to the other side of the island... etc. etc. I have yet to see textures load other than distant ones and in fractions of seconds (ms!wink_o.gif. I truelly am impressed at this moment...

Beautiful shadows are back!! Sometimes some flashy mipmaps but hardly noticeable. Compass & Watch etc work flawless at this time.

When I had more time testing around aswell as going into MP (Where FPS usually is even higher biggrin_o.gif), I will report back!

Ok after in total more than an hour screwing around on the Sarahni Island, blowing up, killing, getting killed, looking around, I did manage to have a Mi24D lower lod for a few seconds, other than that still running ok.

WTH!

I Unistalled ArmA, installed again, apllied patch 1.05, then 1.07 beta and this fix. I can see only windows with message that addon "CAroads" missed, and in the menu ArmA CTD. I don't have addons, beta 107 worked well.

Here the planes name are ok.

After a quick test..

-The joystick issue still there (MS SideWinder 3D pro)

-Invisible name of racs Vulcan in editor still there.

-Camel pilot have the Bis sign visible,but I think it will removed in the final patch.

-No problem with graphic ( never had anyway )

quick question: are users still able to connect to 1.07beta1 servers using this beta2 patch? anyone tried?

I have a test scene saved in the editor, which I had 25fps with ArmA 1.05 at 1500meter viewdistance.

With 1.07 I only get ~15fps. The "funny" thing....

I get ~15 with very low or higher viewdistances.

In the french version, av8 have both, sidewinders one and gbu one, the same name.

Dunno if anyone else has got it, but suddenly my nightvision's working all screwy. In first person view and ironsights, pressing "N" won't turn it on but it does toggle nightvision, because the moment I view my character in third person, it kicks in.

The problem is, it'll keep turning off whenever I go to first person or ironsight view again. Back and forth, on and off.

P4 3.0gHz HT

2GB RAM

8800GTS

Other than that, a vast improvement over the previous beta with regards to textures and LoD.

1st impressions (5 min quick test)

- no more hdd spam and no texture problems yet..

- the fog is the same as the previous beta I think but still a little hazy compared to older gfx cards

I hope I dont need to edit this post but I fear I will do..

1) AI AA Specialist (Strela) does not attack planes. Refuses even when ordered to (responds NEGATIVE). A-10 was set to circle above us. Tried at several speeds and distances.

2) Objects disappear at 1900m when view distance is set to 3000m. All video options at highest levels, weather clear.

Are you running the textures on Normal? Have not tested the new patch, but with previous 1.07, turning textures to High solved that problem for me.

anyone else get a product activation page when starting this new patch?

I purchased this through digital download and it says my serial is wrong so now I can't start it.

Same here, I have the ESD version from Atari and can't run the updated beta, the activation fails. I can still run the non-beta, and was able to run the initial V1.07 beta, but not the update.

LOD/texture problems gone, aparently performance is back at where it was with 1.05 beta, still havent compared FPS in the forest.

Im much relieved.

Now checking out the 1.07 improvements at last.

Noticed that we have runway lights now and light poles no longer kill nvg's visibility.

Strange lighting transition in day/night cycle still happens, it was supposed to be fixed a while back.

Camel pilots look nice but tbh i would rather have new pilots for fixed wing aircraft.

Are you running the textures on Normal? Have not tested the new patch, but with previous 1.07, turning textures to High solved that problem for me.

Only recently started to fly the A10 (joystick issues witch are almost fixed now). Maybe it is me, but once you landed once it isn't possible to pull the gear up anymore. They stick in the down position for ever. Also the A10 most of the times has big delay in exploding when you crash it (was testing the explosion whistle.gif ).

Like mentioned still a few buttons aren't editable here (X52) but managed to remap a few and avoided conflicts and will look into using a profile in the hope i can get more buttons and hats to work as now almost 40% of the additional buttons and hats don't work.

As for performence very good and don't really see big change between 1.05 witch preformed very good on my 8800GTX.

One question though: one of the main reason why the early 1.07beta patch worked 'normal' for me was the trick of Lee to set HDR on 16 and nonVRAMLocal = 0 (and made the arma.cfg read only). But i was wondering if now with the hotfix we still need to use that trick or has the VRAM fix some other kind of influence?

No CTD while flying over 2h with some crazy lowflights, so guess pretty stable for me.

But i did had 2 CTD (no error, just a ArmA needs to close standard message thingy) due to the fact i was in the key settings remapping some keys. It CTD the moment i pressed 'next'. Small one, but maybe still a conflict regarding the keys?

Maybe a silly request and not really path (fix) related, but since i tend to fly most of the times on low altitude in the helis i sometimes come very close near the powerlines. This is mostly by accident as they are sometimes hard to spot, at least the powerlines itself.

So i was wondering if BIS might consider to add those heli-plane warning balls the hang on the powerlines near busy airfields or hospitals. Maybe it would be too much to have them on all of them, but maybe the ones near citys or airports where pilots tend to go low when going into pre-land. Just a suggestion, would add some atmospher but most important it would be more noticable for pilots smile_o.gif .

-no activation on german dl version

-no visible FPS drop

-LOD/texture problems gone

-no NVG bug(never had)

-rare random CTD after 1hr game play(started twice, first time encounter CTD, much better then the 30min=dead malarkey)

-haze turns to smog

-settings high to normal,AA,PP at low

-flush command works as it should

re: ArmA Beta Patch 1.07.5157 re-updated beta patch.

Nice work all concerned. The Win2000 dependence on the dxinput1_1.dll is now gone. So this can be removed or placed elsewhere now away from ArmA or the system32. Not needed any more - :D

The flight model is excellent to play with now, that shift in the COG has had a load of difference.

The cobra seems to slow down (forwards direction) a bit too fast sometimes, or maybe I just need to get used to it, but the transitional lift and the collective response is brilliant now.

Stability is improved, even in the cobra, and the auto-hover is much nicer to use when needed.

Somehow the whole program seems to run more smoothly...

- Performance is very good here (E6600 / X1950xtx 512Mb, 2Gb RAM). Runs good even in woods now, I only have to turn the shadows off, rest is on high/very high. (even shading & Postprocess FX)

- Joystick bugs (button mapping) still messed up. My joystick is a MS sidewinder precision pro 2. I can only map buttons 1,2,3 &4 ,pov directions & slider

I actually navigate in the controls menu & commandmenus when I use my other buttons. crazy_o.gif

- I can only assign the TAB key for the "next target" command.

- Choppers are too easy imo, but I think mouse users will be happy about that. I can live with it...

- Good job with the hold fire fix. smile_o.gif I hope the "shoot at empty vehicle instead of it's crew-bug" (a feature for some) will too be fixed one day.

Btw, is it just me or is the collision detection of the choppers improved since 1.07Beta? The choppers explodes now when he touches the ground at high speed, you could survive these things in older Arma versions
