Spectre-63 0 Posted June 27, 2007 here is a good reference how it really sounds:iraq footage tell u one thing from my experince of firing a weapon. After the first mag, even if u have ear plugs in, you will have hard time hearing all the nuances of individual weapons. They will sound more less the same except for the rate of fire. U litterly go deaf. That's why u shout when u give orders or respond & communicate. If u don't u want hear anything. Just a simple analogy - try setting off a firecracker 4 inches away from u ear and see whether you hearing will be the same . Now imaging you just set off 30 firecracker; and that's just one mag. So the bottom line is - don't turn your sound selection process into the endless perfection exercise. As long as it has the punch, it's fine can't say I agree with you there, sluggCDN - I just returned from a trip to the range tonight and fired more than 200 rounds thru several firearms at an indoor firing range and have no problems with hearing from that experience. Ear protection is designed to do just that - protect your ears and, more importantly, your hearing. I've fired quite a few of the weapons in the game, both while I was on active duty (US Army) and afterwards and have never come away from a trip to the range with degraded hearing. I was always able to distinguish the weapon by it's distinctive sound, regardless of how long we'd been at the range. If you are, as you put it, "litterly go[ing] deaf" you're not using your ear protection properly.

smithcorp 0 Posted June 28, 2007 This may be too late, but if Chammy was looking for some sound options, then some of the modders working on sounds for Steel Beasts Pro PE have some fantastic gun and engine sounds that would suit Arma, in my opinion. I'm sure if they were asked they would be happy to help. I watched the Youtube vids of Chammy's mod so far and it sounds great.

ArmaVidz 0 Posted July 3, 2007 I could be wrong here   but you all know the Modwar Soundpack is totally awesome as well right? Chammy has been contributing and working with ThePredator(?) on that one. While you are waiting for this one you could try it... I'm using the beta version found in these forums and it's awesome. I think it should also be noted that "preference" is a big part. I would thank the FDF group for their mod instead of advising that this one "beats the shit out of it."  It just really discourages creativity and hard work. Of course, some may not think like I do. Jack-UK 0 Posted July 3, 2007 Yeah they are a matter of preference: Some people may like 'Hollywood' sounds Others may like realistic sounds And variants of each mean you can choose. I tried modwar back in early 1.05 but it wasnt really to my taste.. it mite have changed since then, ive seen a lot of positive comments about it. Currently using FDF sound but waiting for Chammyio! wolfsblut_ 0 Posted July 3, 2007 ... Currently using FDF sound but waiting for Chammyio! I have put the FDF-mode aside because if you are a first-person-player and playing against the AI in many situations its important to hear the AI. Especially in the prone-situation, you are surrounded with gras and the AI is trying to flank you. In the prone-situation in the gras you cant see a lot but the AI also dont see alot. And now the time to you and your silenced M9 is come to pay back the AI for its arrogance to engage you and run sometimes heedless around in your area. Â Here you depend more on your sense of hearing while you are lying quietly in the grass. But in the FDF-mod the footstep-sound was reduced in contrast to original. Thats the problem with FDF. I am curious how chammy treats this.
EvEnLeaSe44 0 Posted July 3, 2007 alright guys, if i cant get ahold of chammy by the end of this week then ill release the beta i have.
chammy 7 Posted July 4, 2007 Just to update you guys, I'm still working on it, I'm going through the vehicles to make sure with them thats all good. This past week I am going through that "Modders pitfall" meaning, that depression or unmotivated phase, I guess most modders go through it where you are almost finnished with a project then you get discouraged or unmotivated because of something, being real life, or just needing a break, which I am doing now, but , I am starting up again, gotta get into the zone again heh.
