As said before, much faces for the new NVA, they should be smaller than Americans (possible? maybe not since it would screw up the animations?), if possible. There's so much different things that the NVA/VC are currently missing, like vehicles, but this isn't the topic to disscus about that. I think the issue when this was tried was if you make the soldier unit "smaller", then it does screw up anims and also the holding of weapons. I'm pretty sure this was tried previously for Nam stuff, but was unsuccessful due to above listed issues. I do hope though that you implent dense jungles in the island with a lot of ground vegetation (not just tress, but bushes within the trees, smaller plants etc where vietcong can hide).
