Not even the 12.7mm will engage the choppers.

it depends on the config entry "accuracy=>something" to make helos targetable for mgunners, i once red...

i think the gov helos dont have the appropriate value for this.

just dropped by to say a big THANK YOU to all BAS members (and of course especially to nagual) for all their hard work on this great pack!

its a total new gaming experience: playing as/ against untrained (hd mags) african units is really something unseen before in ofp.

excellent work, BAS- team

I love the music that comes in on the cutscenes on this island! real nice. Where did you get them? Sounds like a Sun-Ra not on Acid!

I'm having real problems getting the AI to move large distances on Tonal.

I've not quite figured out what the problem is, but e.g - if you put a choppper at one corner of the map and a Move WP at the opposite corner, it refuses to move.

It seems that long WPs that cross the central point of the map both horizontally and vertically get ignored by the AI.

Short ones dont seem to cause the same problems, so it should be easy enough to set one WP close to the centre, and another just on the other side. But thats no good if you want a smooth flyover shot of the island.

Did you have to "stitch" some islands together? or is it a bug with OFP?

Nagual - How does the CAS work? I've called Strikes through the menu, and can hear the craft flying overhead, but have no idea how you direct their strike. Maybe a little explanation in the briefing, or have I missed something simple?

I liked BD´s idea about hospitals and a prison camp. In Somalia 1993, the U.S used a prison camp on an island just off the coast to hold Somali prisoners.

I'm having real problems getting the AI to move large distances on Tonal.

Thats because the very long distance and rough terrain with objects, the AI is having hard time finding a path through the waypoints.

Its my theory that OFP engine stops finding the path after certain amount of time/trying.

We just have to live with this on 25km islands with rough terrain and lot of objects. Try to use shorter waypoint/move command distances for AI units.

Might be offtopic might be not, Yesterday i was testing something and mowing down civilians in the process (dont ask). Now some just shouted and stuff but i believe i actually heard on shout "FELATIO!" at me biggrin_o.gif Anyone care to clear that up? :P

Hmm Cassie did you make the sound tracks for BAS isle?

One question i really wanted to ask was why did you use Quotes from the Quran in the song?  rock.gif

What's wrong with using quotes from the Quran in music?  

Sure, most people here don't understand it (unless they're Muslim), but it sounds very beautiful.   I imagine that the simplest explanation is that almost all the samples of Arabic singing that you can find on the net are almost entirely of verses of the Quoran being sung.  

The only other stuff that I ever run across is occassionally some Rumi poetry being sung in Turkish.... but that has a different sound then most Arabic styles of singing.  

I know some Muslims are completely against the words of the Quoran being put to music, but I would challenge them to find a verse in the Quoran that states specifically that the words can not be put to music.  

Anyways, I like how Cassie used the Arabic samples.  It adds alot more atmosphere to the music and the game I think.

I just wish there were more African drum rhythms in the music.

No that wasnt my point i just wanted to know whether she put it in deliberately or just thought of it as normal arabic.

Arabic songs are a different thing and Quran being 'Recited' is a different thing perhaps you didnt knew that so i'll give you the benefit of doubt on that.

And yes Quran being used in songs is not a likeable thing , BUT its due to reasons if the song is full of reason nice and promotes something nice and peaceful its ok but if it turn out to be vulgar like we usually see such songs with nothing but the word **** in it ( i guess you understand?) then its wrong.

does anyones comp freeze wen using this addon

or does it just lag?

i get a it of lag but i put viewdistance to 500 and it doesnt lag but my comp freezes

im testing the island on how many squads in the jungle it can handle till my comp freezes without fog

does n e one freeze or is it just me

Now that we're all one big lovefest, let me ask in a different way:

On the map, the grid squares are currently 512x512m. Is there any plan to change this to 256x256 in a future version, or will this stay the same?

Sometimes in both SP and MP I run into invisible walls [with a vehicle]. This has happened 6 or 7 times, and most of the time I die... whats up with this?

Hi folks!

So got to play around with Tonal Island after finding a mirror and burning it to disc at work to get it home, since I'm one of the lesser folks in the isdn/56k crowd.

Put everything up and got it running. And wow!

My hat's off to the BAS TEAM, involved in this, speciall thanks to NAGUAL.

It's outstanding, a masterpiece, a gem.

So far it's also running quite fluent on my rig with moderate settings, but still i have the impression i should finally get rid of my GF2MX400 and look for something more advanced.

Another word to Nagual:

Many thanks for your efforts in putting missions and a campaign into this pack, this gives the unknowing in finer arts of mission editing like me, the possibility to expierience this island in deep.

Your campaign plays out good so far some bugs have already be mentioned and as far as I understand a fix for these is underway. Thanks again.

Not sure if this one has been mentioned but apart from the Su25 script bug in mission three and the not working endmissiontrigger. I got another Skript error there, dealing with some militia unit and expecting a group. Sorry for not being more precise.

I'd like to add a suggestion for your campaign: As far as the readme is concerned the 1st Tonal Scouts company is a top notch unit formed by a ex spec ops guy. May i safely assume these folks a trained soilders enough to properly zero in their rifles. It strikes me a bit odd to see the whole team equipped at mission start with high dispersion magazines.

And fighting with them is thrilling to painstalking, I usually search dead rebels for standart ones, since you don't have to empty half your magazine onto a guy 200 meters away, giving away your position and inviting every hostile with a gun to shoot at you, to bring him down.

Even an ordinary soilder with litte riffle training, as i've been serving a year in the German Federal Army, can hit a mansized target at 200 meters from the prone unsupported position quite easíly with a G3/FN-FAL.

So i'd like to see the scouts in the missions with standart mags.

Second to that but maybe not your division:

The RPD gunners carry the incredible amount of 1000 rounds, that must weight alone a good 30 lbs! A bit too much and they can put down on you a lot of fire!

BTW, I don't think anyone really "needs" BAS' permission to use your objects on their own island. They aren't editing or changing any of BAS' objects. They are just making another island with existing objects.....and they might come up with something good.

They absolutely do have to ask, everything we have created is copyrighted to us, whether it has a notice or not, and the point of the addon being free of charge also makes no difference, you MUST have our permission to modify or use any of our work.

Not only that but it is common courtesy to ask, so if you wish to use objects or any piece of work from any BAS releases that have been created by the BAS team, you must ask for permission.

I agree with most of what evis said, but not all objects in the pack are from us. The opfor voices were from DF2, some of the other sounds are from other places, JAM has some sounds from other games, etc etc. Just like INQ weapons... he ripped them from CS, they're great, but if I just took them for my own purposes and re-uploaded them it would be wrong.

The whole point is, what you see in game is what makes this pack special in my opinion, the coding is amazing, but you dont SEE that. It's all one cohesive (if somewhat buggy at the moment) gestalt and should stay that way. A very select few of us BAS members spent ungodly amounts of time on this thing, all helped, but what you see in-game is essentially the work of 3 people if you worked out the time percentages (with every single BAS member helping to some lesser degree, not to take anything away from them). Now if you think that we spent probably a years worth of man-hours on this so that any joe blow can come along, grab the pbo, throw a few buildings and palm trees down in visitor, then release an island in a week your crazy. No offense to anyone, but if you just say "Well we can do what we like, we already have the files. If you don't want it re-used, then don't upload it. blah blah" then you have never spent months upon months of sleepless nights toiling away on a project like this. The main thing people would want are the plants and buildings, and no, we (I said we) really do not want anyone to use them at this time. If you want plants, there are the files from the old alpha nam isles I uploaded for anyone to use, and a few already have such as for the wake island, and I think the Meekong map uses them... get them from them or find and use the files yourselves. If you want buildings, make them yourselves and repurpose the textures that initially came with the game or make new ones.

To be honest, the main reason is we want people to use the maps provided. It's all one project and will stay that way until the overall consensus is to let anyone use whatever they want.

If we can spend the time to get a project to this point then there is no reason why someone else can't. I also would like to see other nice islands, but if you can't spend the time to work on it then maybe you should rethink your project. There are a lot of quality jungle maps in the works it looks like, there is no reason why anyone would want to use our work when it is obvious there are people who can do just as good if not better.

Now I'm glad you read my post correctly Ebud, unlike Evis, and noticed I am talking about using not modifying. If someone wants to build an island, as use some of your textures/plants/buildings then why would this upset you guys, and how does this violate any copyright (provided they give appropriate credit of course...which they would have to as their island would require your packs...so it would be fairly obvious).

I'm not asking for myself; I have no intention of using anything from the pack. I am most suprised about the response. And course people are going to use the islands provided...that doesn't seem in any doubt to me. I am merely hypothesising that if someone wanted to make their own island then why not just say go for it, look forward to the results. It wouldn't be a slight on your work, it would be a compliment.

Anyway......awaiting flames blah blah blah

I did read your post, but you dont seem to have read mine, i am talking about USING objects from the island, but modifying comes under the same rule.

And I also was very specific that it only came down to things actually created by our team, which ebud seemed to miss, so obviously this doesnt include things we have used but not created (like the BIS models).

And yes, using models on an island without permission, even without modifying, is a violation of copyright, doing anything with them apart from what we specifically allow you to do would be a violation of the copyright.

And no Ruff, i have a relatively mid range PC, XP2000+ 512mb ram and a Geforce 4 MX.

geforce 4200 ti

so u really use view distance 1200 on jungles??

unbelievable

my comp can handle it with barely any lag but it freezes

wats ur agp set to??

and ppl cant we just respect was bas wants

they said for now

maybe in the future theyll allow for the objects to be used

its their work which they shared and only asked wat one request, come on guys this stuff is for free!

It gets a little choppy in the jungles, but i turn the view distance down to 500, feels more like a jungle that way anyway.

altho i am understanding you point completely Ebud, there's a question that comes to my mind... what about the huge load of new textures and objects if every new island must use new original textures and objects for same kinds of trees, terrains and stuff.

There's a point where most clients and even most servers would have to make some drastic choices when they could benefit more missions and islands to play in a session for instance.

I dont know if i am very clear here, and i am not criticizing but i think you can understand my concern, there's some good to unifying things sometimes(with all due and deserved credits), and it doesnt prevent ppl from making new additions.

Just some thought, not a request or anything (i am not going to make an island soon... and i even doubt i will later ;) )

i thought my comp was in serious need of help

in the jungles yeah i also put it in 500

that made me feel much better

agp 2 makes ofp not freeze than 4 wen using the jungle bits of the map

So does this mean everytime I use a BIS model on my island I am breaking copyright? Everytime someone uses a BIS texture, they are breaking copyright? If this is the case, why aren't BIS (or more likely Codemasters) pursuing....well, everyone? Seriously....

And if there is a difference between BIS and BAS copyright I'd love to know what it is (un-sarcastic). I would have thought that BIS (read Codemasters) would be stricter on intellectual property than some fans making a few addons?
