Faklands mod beta sea harrier release

I've been experimenting with the flight settings per Lee_H._Oswald and Wardog's previous posts.

I have found that setting the landing speed to 10 has worked perfectly for me. After the right amount of practice i have managed to land the harrier VTOL (very very very short STOL for the purests), without using the VTOL control from the menu, usually i can get within about 5 metres of my intended landing spot (just off the edge of one of the helo landing pads).

The way i have acheived this is by bringing the harrier is as if you were going to land normally (from a height of about 50-75m, speed 200-250), lift the nose of the harrier slightly into the air and then hit the 'break key' (s' on my keyboard)(effectively the same way you would land a chopper except you dont need to do anything to get it to the ground). Do this until the speed is around 20 and if your close to the ground (10-20m) hit it again, the harrier will land VTOL and basically stop on the spot (may roll a few metres forward) without causing any damage to the harrier. The trick is to ensure your not too close to the ground while moving at speed (20-20 is usually perfect), this allows the Harrier to vertically 'drop' to the ground while remaining horizontal to the ground.

Using this method i have pritty much managed to recreate how a real harrier lands VTOL (or at least how they land in the videos and photos that i have). Only problem i have with this method is that the air direction nossles face backwards and not down towards the ground! If i can work out how to make a video of me landing in OFP i will do so and post.

I think the VTOL command is very useful for take off but is not needed when landing if you use the above method.

With the 'STOL take off' is it possible to stop the 'turbo boost' at say a speed of 200. Currently you get max speed very quickly and have to manually turn off the STOL. Cutting at a set speed would make it more realistic IMO.

Why do you have to be spiteful Jaguar?   Now just because people differed in their opinions with you, you will get back at them by convincing DKM not to make an AV-8B?   That's really immature and unprofessional behavior.  I hope that kind of attitude does not reflect your entire mod team's attitude.

By the way, the DKM USMC Bronco is, in my opinion, the funnest aircraft addon ever made.    I sincerely hope that you will not ask them to quit making more great USMC aircraft of that caliber.

Klink m8 in full version with the MOD are you planning to add dust while hovering???

And the Submarine you working is that to the MOD too or separate???

You are not going anywhere with this. This thread is about the Sea Harrier, released by the Falklands mod for the Falkland Campaign they are making, and that is it. You can also enquire about any future projects of the Falklands Mod team (I am that kind, yes) but NO MORE FLAMING or FLAME BAITING. This is going to stop NOW or PR's/BANS will be handed out.

Trying to keep polycount down on lower lods, but will check if there is a way to overcome this. Cheers

Thanks buddy. I was looking for those old scripts. I have anew improved VTOL on the harrier that a friend has been helping with. less menu commands, using keys would improve it immensely. Keep in touch as I will be beta testing the improved VTOL soon.

Oops, sorry I'd missed a part of that link for the VTOL script. It should be downloadable now.

I found a minor bug in it while playing with it tonight. A var isn't resetting sometimes when a player is killed while using VTOL in turbo mode I think so then VTOL doesn't work right afterward. I'll look at it and fix it up.

Otherwise it worked great in our games tonight. You just press Q and Z (or whatever you use for Crouch and Prone) to thrust up and down, and then E or SHIFT+W (run) to use STOL turbo takeoff. X and C (moveleft, moveright) rotate you.

It's far easier than the VTOL that I've been using. I've been using a modified version of Spitfire's script that I made. I think it's the same one on the harrier now. I just took his script and made it work in MP.

I'm trying to make it so you can use the X-axis (strafe keys) to thrust left and right, but I've got to work on the calculations a bit more to get it to work right.

I just uploaded a new version of VTOL that fixes some issues I had with it, namely vtol not activating again properly after the player dies while using STOL turbo.

It is a fantastic adddon and i love it, but could you alter it so that the ejection seat fires at a certain damage level, i mean really low level, but it means you might survive a crash landing.

Is there any way to put an ejection seat on any other vehicle (ie a jeep) and/or make it go higher when ejecting? smile.gif
