Cheater in tanks

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Okay I am totally upset I can tell you. I just played on the battlefield map and some guy in an M1 was hidden somewhere. First, he shot down a fast moving M-17 with sabot!! Okay, that ought to happens rarely BUT:

I drove behind him, took out my RPG launcher and got 3 (!)direct hits on his M1 (I was about 50-100 m away), he was still alive and moving around, of course, I got killed.

Later on I shot with 1 AT4 launcher at him, again direct hit and he was STILL alive and moving (got killed again).

Now was that sucker cheating or is this normal? When I drive around in tanks they kill me with one or two hits already usually.

I was not lagging at all (actually a perfect connection that was) and I did not miss on those 100 m.

So how many hits do west and east tanks take? Some list about this would be nice so I know what all vehicles can take.

So again, is this normal or cheating?

Greetz,

Landorin

It's quite easy to take down choppers with a sabot, so that's no rarety.

As far as taking 3 rpg's then an at4, that's normal. You were probably playing in cadet mode. If you weren't lagging, he may have been.

I've had several instances of getting shot in mp while i was in a tank and taking 0 damagae. Before an MI17 naled with with 50 rockets atleast, and nearby laded and hardly took any damage.

It's just the strenght of the m1 in cadet sad.gif

M1A1 : 6 LAW/RPG or 3 Carl Gustav/AT4

T80: 4 LAW/RPG or 2 Carl Gustav/AT4

M60: 2 LAW/RPG or 1 Carl Gustav/AT4

T72: 2 LAW/RPG or 1 Carl Gustav/AT4

It also depends on where you hit the tank, quite a lot.

i find hitting the turret is a good place for a quicker kill wink.gif

Try to hit the Barrel (2 hits can dissable it)

Quick kill = the picture in your signature (to get an idea)? wink.gif j/k

Anyways, thanks for the answers, I slowly believe he did not cheat, which is a big relieve. smile.gif

I didn't know that RPG is so much weaker.

And no, we did not play on cadet mode.

But the hints and this small list I read helps a bit already. Thank you. Any more hints are very welcome. smile.gif

I wonder if some tanks are really like that in real life...  crazy.gif

Oh, well, thanks for the answers, I guess I see myself forced to use AT4 from now on. wink.gif

Now all that is missing is some good team member with a strela launcher on my side.  biggrin.gif

I'm fine as long as people are not cheating - but it seemed like it at first. wow.gif

Maybe you just should not play in cadet mode? We never have that much trouble taking out tanks, we always play with diffArmor[]={0,0};

As I said above, Battlefield is usually played in veteran mode. smile.gif

In WWII, there was a Tiger I tank that took 200+ hits from differing calibers on the Russian front, and still managed to drive 50 or so miles home biggrin.gif

Wonder how the Russian felt...

You better use a heat so you get the kill\infantry\air points for it  biggrin.gif

I usually find its easiest to kill a tank by hitting tha same sector of it again and again. Thats either the turret, the gun, left or right tracks, front or back. It seems that when one sector is totally destroyed the whole tank blows up.

Tanks in OFP are EXTREMELY unrealistic... but it adds to better gameplay.

Come on be serious, how many tanks in the war with iraq got destroyed by RPGs...barely any... so the tanks are really unrealistic, mind you, so is shell penatration. Come on the yank tanks have dep uranium warheads, and once its inside the tank, you can get seriously hurt

Haha.

Yes, Depleted Uranium or Tungsten SABOTs are bad for armor. And the US tanks aren't the only ones that have'em - the russian tanks use those as well.

But it gets better! The T80 comes with a 125mm (akak more powerful) gun!

That's not the end of it though: An M1A2 and a T80 can trade shots at 800m without killing each other off, that's how strong the armor on those things is.

And RPGs?... Heh. Last I heard you needed a dozen LAWs just to immobilize a T-72 (and that's with a track hit).

Depends if you are playing in Cadet or Veteran difficulty

In Cadet , it is difficult to destroy a tank or a chopper , because by default there is extra armor enabled , and you can really see the difference when trying to destroy armoured vehicle with this option enabled or disabled.

Paradox , in Veteran it is very easy to destroy tanks or chopper due to that option is disabled by default (and cant be enabled)

I think it is the only time you will find Veteran easier than Cadet (if you are a LAW/RPG or DCA soldier)

I completely agree...it'd be nice if BIS could provide a separate 'extended armor' control for vehicles (well, in particular aircraft and amored vehicles) so you could set armored vehicles to have extended armor in Vet mode. That would really make Helis with AT's less abusive in the Battlefields 1985 scenarios wink.gif

Not true, it takes one, sometimes two RPG-7 rockets to destroy a T-72. And that is one with ERA blocks. I read an excellent article posted in addons and discussion here about RPG-7 rockets in Afganistan and Chechnya. Two soldiers with RPG-7s would sneek up on a tank, one would fire, destroying the ERA blocks, and the secont would then fire, benetraiting the armor. T-72s use homongous steel, which is easily melted at low temperatures by HEAT rounds.

My uncle who was in the gulf war is very critical of the T-72, he watched as a M2a3 bradly calvary fighting vehicle detroyed a T-72 with its 25mm gun! All this time those poorly trained Iraqis in the tank were waiting for that autoloader to reload.

Which brings me to another point with the T-72, My uncle said the the Iraqis had no fire discipline, and would fire at abrams outta the T-72 125mm gun's range. The barrel would then elevate so the auto loader could reload and the abrams could see right were they were, with their huge barrel sticking right up into the air.

Back to multiplayer, I have observed tanks being too strong, but the soldiers inside too weak. I would shoot a tank once or twice (T80's) and the soldiers inside died even though there was no critical dammage done to the tank.

Sgt. Milkman: Iraqis get the cheap export version of the T-72. Keep in mind that its a Vietnam Era tank and yes, it DID take a dozen LAWs just to immobilize then. I figure the new LAW-80 is better equipped to dela with it (as well as all other new anti-armor weapons, by virtue of being new while the tank is old)

Anyway. I think tanks are too weak (in particular, the M1/T80) ...

You should be needing the Catl Gustav/AT4 to deal with those ... shouldn't really be very susceptible to LAWs or the RPG.

I would take the other way around : it's LAW and RPG which are too strong ingame wink.gif AT4 and Carl are not that wrong (not really corrects, I bet, but someway accurate)

I totally agree.... BMP's and Bradley's shouldn't be 1 shot kill targets for LAWs and RPG's'.

IRL I doubt a BMP or a M2A2 Bradley would be destroyed if fired upon by such a LAW or RPG-29.

Well, for me it`s most of the time:

M1A1 : 4 LAW/RPG

T80 : 3 LAW/RPG

smile.gif

And hitting a chopper with the tank turret isn`t that hard. You just have to know how to lead the target.

If a target takes more hits than normal lag is the reason normally. When playing against bad lagging guys, I`ve been killed by a tank who had his turret turned away from me. Next thing was the tank appearing 100 meters away from me.

That`s bad, that`s lag, that`s happening. sad.gifwink.gif

You can easily destroy a M113 or BMP with a RPG. I`ve seen footage on that from Chechnya.
