-TU--33ker 0 Posted October 26, 2003 Quote[/b] ]Sometimes I think half of the Board members already have the marines! All those screenshots make me mad! Gah... I feel that way, but MEH. They will apparently be released soon, with little hassle hopefully. Now, the problem will be finding enough mirriors, as I think just about everyone'll download this addon the second it's released, and give the rest of the community about three days to catch up, thanks to the Time Differentials. Quote[/b] ]Who's your beloved Nicole? Ahhh. You read Russian and understand it? That's interesting enough. You'd think that statement is obvious enough.. to clarify: The girl who didn't slap me across the face when I asked her to the movies. (And she's a nice one too. I'd post imagery, but that goes against what's left of my scant morality.) AK You're too optimistic AKM, IMO they'll tease us for another 3 months, with their screenshots! Good luck with your Nicole. I was just asking because her name was written in latin letters.
AKM 0 Posted October 26, 2003 Awww shucks... Quote[/b] ]You're too optimistic AKM, IMO they'll tease us for another 3 months, with their screenshots! I've been told that I'm too cynical for my age (Below 20) and I was trying to be optimistic... Yah, like hell that'll work. I'd agree with you, but also add in: The addons take a while to produce, and its better that Earl and Suchey take their time making them, so that we get a high-quality product in the end, despite the wait. That should help avoid the 40 reply: Do you know how long these take to make and how much work goes into them?!?! syndrome which I've seen and experianced before. Its not pretty. I'm not going to reiterate myself with the whole "These look fu**ing fantastic, etc." oooooooh damnit, what have I just done?! (And to prevent another post explaining what I've just done, I've just gone and repeated myself. To the advantage of all concerned. [Myself only at this point] AK
suchey 0 Posted October 26, 2003 Im extremely motivated by the fact that people are so eager to get our addon! Thanks guys! I can say with almost 100% certainty that it will not be 3 more months. We are making good progress on the pack! In regard to beta testers...we have been very fortunate to gain some EXTREMLY active participants and their involvement in testing coupled with out policy of free and open posting of screenshots has made it seem that we have an army of testers. I would like to take this opportunity to once again say thank you to those folks who have put in alot of time in testing this addon! Things are running very smoothly right now and we are moveing full steam ahead to get this addon into the public hands. Thanks again guys!

-TU--33ker 0 Posted October 27, 2003 I know that the addons won't be realeased earlier if I complain. But I'm really envious when I see all those screenshots, which show the things I want do do myself with the marines.

ruff 102 Posted October 28, 2003 are the force recon only gonna come in urban camo? how bout woodland and desert? i reckon just put the recon head on the bodies of the woodland and desert camo so its easy and different coz i believe th equipment is not that different with normal marines wen it comes to vests and pouches etc
hellfish6 7 Posted October 28, 2003 Force recon are only going to be in urban marpat. It might make you happy to know, though, that from about 100m the urban marpat blends in really well in any wooded environment.
CrunchyFrog 0 Posted October 29, 2003 Hmm... After looking at these units, I wondered, are there gonna be any AT soldiers? JAM M136 for USMC, and JAM RPG-7 for the russians, but are there gonna be a "specially" modelled unit for this? Or "just" a rifleman with the launcher? stgn 39 Posted October 29, 2003 http://www.ofpboneyard.com/sights.htm the sights look very good but i don't realy think, I am sure you don't see the sights so clearly when you are aming cause it is tha man thats in focus when you aim not so much the sight so it is just a dark grey, blury thing you place where the man is. And I don't under stand why the M16 iron sight has to use the night sight? STGN

Mostly because of the interest of time. You guys have waited a long time and we are trying to get this into the publics hands. Nothing is set in stone yet though. AKM 0 Posted October 29, 2003 Its odd that he'd think that. *attempts to alt-tab out of OFP to hide the MARPAT-clad USMC storming a beach at 06:30* Well, they look great, and I'm hoping for release sometime before Christmas.... with any luck... heh... awww damn. Quote[/b] ]Force recon are only going to be in urban marpat. It might make you happy to know, though, that from about 100m the urban marpat blends in really well in any wooded environment. Urbanized MARPAT works well in the desert as well, during the night, however Desert MARPAT definately has the edge there, for the obvious reasons. Just about any camouflage pattern will blend fine at 100+ meters, and with the standard engagement range in OFP ranging from 0 to 850 meters effectively, and upwards of 2 kilometers at times, I'm fairly certain they'll blend in just fine. Whatever happened to those old Digitized Overs that I saw American units wearing during Gulf War 1 Op:DS? I believe they were night camouflage, now available in Surplus stores out here in the boonies I believe. One thing I would like to know. When I first came into this thread, I made the connection between the concept of balance, and that if we get Marine Force Recon, we got Naval Spetsnaz. Now, any new progress screens of the Naval Spetsnaz available, or have they been cut out of the project, which would be very unfortunate, as I was looking forward to those. hellfish6 7 Posted October 29, 2003 That digitized camo you're talking about from GW1 were reversable jackets, IIRC. One side was the chocolate chip desert camo, the other side was the crude digital pattern designed to hide from enemy night vision. I think they all got phased out with the chocolate chip camo. I think the current desert camo is much better, anyways.
AKM 0 Posted October 29, 2003 Ahhhhhh. I see. The stuff in the surplus store must be reproduction then, as it is fairly thin, has the same primitive "Digitized" pattern on it, but is not reversable into the Chocolate Chip pattern, just the one 'digital' pattern. Yeah, I agree with you on that. The new one seems a fair bit better than the Chocolate Chip one. Although, I shouldn't really be speaking on an issue like this, as I've never had to put on a set of desert fatigues and walk into the desert. Just forests. And the Canadian version of the Russian Taiga... and steppe country, out west. But no deserts. AK

The rear appeture for the M-16 has two different sized peep holes. The larger of which is referred to as the Night Site, by the Marine Corps, and only used at night, as it is easier to see through, but most people cannot shoot as accurately while using it. The smaller peep hole is used for normal daytime engagement. For most people, it is much easier to center up the front site post in the smaller peep hole, thus they shoot much more accurately. I belive this is what he was referring to.
hellfish6 7 Posted October 29, 2003 Hmm... In the army we used the larger site for short range engagements (0-100m) and the smaller site for longer range shooting. Don't remember ever being told about the larger sight being used at night, but then again, we had laser pointers and night vision for when we shot at night. SGTKOPP 0 Posted October 30, 2003 i was taught that the big apeture was for nbc engagements and at night i have used it for nbc fire but not night i have a peq 2 and pvs 14s for that
hellfish6 7 Posted October 30, 2003 You actually AIMED your rifle for NBC fires? I didn't think it was possible, so I always just pointed in the general direction of the target and let loose. Didn't help wearing a promask without inserts for glasses when you need them to shoot in the first place. Hehe. I always thought NBC qualification was just an excuse for shooting for the hell of it.
