Falklands mod progress

Recommended Posts

While our admin gurus set up the new forum hosting I thought I might do a news update on the Sea Harrier.

First and probably the most important news is the Harrier has a completely new VTOL system smile_o.gif that was kindly donated to the mod. This system doesnt rely on the menu at all. That's right! No clumsy menu entries to access.

Normal take off is via the  W or E keys (or by joystick throttle) VTOL by Q and Z keys.. Sweet!

When you fly and you make a stop to make a vertical landing how gets the VTOL activated?

As it looks like the release is not as close as we all wish, how about a little ingame video of the great harrier?

Great news about the Harrier

Might there be a version with rockets too? Not sure if this is even realistic on the Sea Harrier, but CAS in the Harrier is just so much fun.

...while you're at it, how about one with the excellent Cluster Bombs from the Hudson & Pennywise F/A18? biggrin_o.gif

Cheers,

Cornhelium

VTOL is auto activated if a: the plane is under a certain speed, and b: above a certain height

The RAF GR3 (which is under construction) version will have rockets and bombs.

While this version wasn't used in the conflict, the boys in the mod are playing with this while the relocation of our Site and Forum is being done:

I have a question. Can the harrier come to a complete stop in mid air after normal flight when it goes into VTOL? Can you turn while hovering in mid air? BTW it looks great and sounds great! Ahh one more question...Do you change altitude when in VTOL with the Q and Z keys or like the older version, through the action menu? Thanks.

Yeah I seen it already mentioned it to ash the program was called Classic British Aircraft first part of that episode was was on the bristol Sycamore i believe and the second part was about the Westland wasp. Yeah they said it had a bad tendancy to want to fall into the water so they fitted floatation gear to them which kind of looked like a large side winch. Though the guy said when they went down to the falklands to save on weight the floatation gear came off not good to go for a dip after that crazy_o.gif .

I read it. It didn't answer my question. You might want to re-read my question and see if it was answered.

It was answered, the action menu is no longer used smile_o.gif

"VTOL is auto activated if a: the plane is under a certain speed, and b: above a certain height"

I asked IF the harrier can stop (A complete stop)after coming out of normal flight in mid air.

In the original it didn't stop. And you could not stop it unless you landed.

FOrgive me if I am wrong but to come to a complete stop in the harrier is a little more involved than just slamming on the brakes, true or false?

If true then the new VTOL requires the harrier to slow down then come to a stop in midair.

As I have never seen a video shot of the harrier in flight I really dont know what exactly happens when a Harrier switches from normal to VTOL. Perhaps some one can sketch it out for me.

Still working on a VTOL jump routine that allows the plane to 'jump' out of an enemy aircraft path and 'jump' back once the enemy has passed.. Seen this in a book so I guess it is correct:) Viffing so I understand.
