ipetanj 10 Posted July 19, 2019 Have offer from friend for: 2080rtx Asus x470 prime pro 3200 cl16 gskill TT 750w Case TT cj23 Gonna buy 3700x and nvme evo 970. Maybe some aio water. What you think? I know, ram is not best but. I can sell that one and get 32gb better. Thats 1 of 2 options.. second is intel but muuch more expensive -.-
oldbear 390 Posted July 19, 2019 Well ... the Ryzen 7 3700X is coming with the Wraith Prism cooler. This cooler is rather good, I had bought one separately as a Ryzen 7 2700X spare part I am using it on my bench table. Even in long test sessions with Arma3 on the R5 2600, T° never went over 50°C. So, I think that AIO water cooling for the CPU is not needed, but if you go that way, remember to provide efficient air cooling for the VRM area. ATM, it seems the dedicated Ryzen 3000 @ 3600/3755 MHz CL 14/16 targeting the "sweet spot" isn't available. So 16 GB (2x8GB) @ 3200 Mhz Cl16 will do the job 😎

Groove_C 267 Posted July 20, 2019 Very quick YAAB test - 1x standard + 1x ultra @1080p Best case scenario for R5 3600(X) because of 3800 MHz CL14 RAM (1:1 mode) v-sync off | AI difficulty level normal/regular | all possible background tasks like VoiP, recording and browsers off R5 3600 (SMT on | Win 1903) + 2x8 GB 1900 MHz (3800 MHz) 14-15-14-32-266-1T 1.5 V (G.Skill Flare X 3200 CL14) (1:1 mode) + GTX 1070 Ti Now I'm at least 100% sure that I can order i7-5775C with 128 MB L4 cache. Because @ 1080p @ 4.2/3.8/2.2 GHz core/cache/eDRAM and with only 8 GB DDR3 2400 MHz 9-11-11-31-1T (XMP) it's still 2 FPS faster, @ standard as well as @ ultra. OC to 4.3/4.0 core/cache + my 32 GB 2400 10-11-12-18-1T (secondary+tertiary timings max optimized as well). This way I will most probably additionally gain around 3-5 FPS more. So I can wait for Zen 3/ Ice Lake/ ArmA 4. Ryzen 3X00(X) is only 1-2 FPS better (@ 1080p) than my i7-4790K 4.8/4.4 GHz core/cache with 2400 MHz CL10 DDR3 ))) 3-5 FPS slower with best possible/acceptable RAM vs. stock 9900K 4.7/4.3 GHz core/cache with not expensive 3600 CL16 RAM (XMP). No - thanks ))) R5 3600(X) @ 3200 MHz 14-14-14-34 (1.35 V) vs. 3800 MHz 14-15-14-32 (1.5) is 7 FPS slower @ 1080p standard (YAAB). R9 3900X in YAAB same FPS as R5 3600, but was not able to go to 1900 MHz infinity - no 3800 MHz CL14 RAM, only 3733 MHz CL14 RAM was possible. With 2X16 GB (dual rank 3733 CL14) a little bit better FPS than with 2x8 GB (single rank 3733 CL14). Intel "K" still king in ArmA @ stock with average RAM frequency/timings vs fully OC'ed AMD with best possible RAM for it, if you don't consider Intel CPU prices. + possible to OC to 5.0-5.2 GHz with 4000+ RAM. migueldarius 10 Posted July 23, 2019 I will buy me a PC for 400€. - AMD Ryzen 5 3400G. - 16GB@3200 DDR4. - MSI B450M Gaming Plus. - 120GB SSD 6Mbs.
oldbear 390 Posted July 23, 2019 I understand the budget point of view, the Ryzen 5 3400G is a good asset and the 4.2 Max Boost Clock speed is attractive. Of course, this processor must be set on a "Ryzen 3000 ready" mother board. But, you will discover quickly that ... - you need a graphic card, because even if the integrated Vega 11 Graphics is the most powerful IGPU released so far, it's performance is on par with RX550 an entry level GPU. No problem on a 720p monitor, but, If you want to play at Very High Quality on a 1080p one, you will understand what I mean. - you need a 256 GB SSD for System and Arma3 Steam library or need to add a 2nd SSD form Arma3 On my own test rig 90 GB is needed for Windows10, Firefox, AfterBurner & HWinfo + Arma3, I had played for a while with a 120 GB SSD but with Mods, I was always moving Mods files from HD to SSD with some issues for I am using CUP and The Unsung so my Arma3 library size is now around 70 GB. Larpushka 17 Posted July 24, 2019 So it seems there's a good deal on the following laptop, I want to specifically buy it to play Arma 3. Good graphics & smooth experience is important to me, but I don't wanna do an overkill and overspend on a high-end gaming laptop that won't provide such a great improvement over what I have in mind. What do you think? Keep in mind I rather buy from my home country of Israel (for warranty reasons) so any external links you will send me won't be helpful. Kalle M. 109 Posted July 24, 2019 The CPU seems to be quite powerful. I'll do for sure. RAM is fast and 16GB is perfect. The GPU could be a bottleneck for the CPU though.

oldbear 390 Posted July 24, 2019 @Larpushka I still have doubts when I look at such a laptop on its ability to evacuate CPU and GPU-induced thermal load during long gaming sessions with Arma3 ... The processor is in principle quite correct and its maximum Turbo at 4.50 GHz is an asset. You will probably have to limit a bit the overall Visibility parameter to 2800/3200m in order to get enough FPS. The GTX 1650 is OK and will not bottleneck anything and will allow "Very High " and even "Ultra" quality playing 1080p. 16GB DDR4 is good and 1TB M.2 2280 SSD PCIe NVMe an asset. ... you will see by yourself if thermal stress triggers throttling

AwwMan 0 Posted July 28, 2019 (edited) hey everybody I bought arma 3 years ago to play with some friends who I played insurgency with at the time I had 3570k+670 they invited me to koth which I gladly joined then I got the taste of 20-30fps on low 1080p, and subsequently rage-quitted I stopped talking with said friends after that I hardly played arma anymore now I want to get back into it, and i'm building a new system already got z390 mobo on sale, I think I want to get 9900k or 9700k but still not quite sure on which also snatched a freesync 1440p75Hz panel on sale, so maybe 5700/XT, but still not quite sure I've seen yaab results for 9900k/9700k but not yet on 5700/XT can anyone direct me to which one I should buy? for reference I can get: 9700k for ¥45,979 9900k for ¥57,034 5700 XT for ¥50,084 5700 for ¥44,064 can anyone guide me if I should spend the extra money or just pocket it? edit: that's arma 3 - years ago, not arma - 3 years ago I just joined the forums to ask advice Edited July 28, 2019 by AwwMan intonation
oldbear 390 Posted July 29, 2019 @AwwMan Welcome back in our Armaverse 😎 First of all, I will remember you that here in Arma3 as it was in OFP/Arma/Arma2 ... years ago, the CPU is the Boss. That's why the YAAB test mission is CPU-centric. Of course, since Visual Update, the GPU has gain some importance nevertheless, you still need first a fast and furious efficient CPU to do the job. Have a look on this bench, it's a bit dated but still current ... source : http://www.comptoir-hardware.com/articles/cpu-mobo-ram/37408-test-intel-z390-core-i9-9900k-i7-9700k-i5-9600k.html?start=11 So the i9-9900K is the better but expensive, the i7-9700K a fair choice*. For the GPU, in order to play Arma3, you need to get a good GPU but you don't need the best one. In order to play 1080p, I will suggest GTX 1660Ti and if you want to go 1440p, look for RTX 2060 or RX 5700. * You will also need fast 16 GB (2x8) DDR4 and a 500 GB SSD !

oldbear 390 Posted July 29, 2019 (edited) @AwwMan If you already bought a 256 GB, it's OK ... for a start ...😎 My suggestion is based upon my own experience. ATM on my #1gaming rig, I am using 2xNVMe 500 GB SSD Windows 10 64, e-mail clients, navigators and tools are using 102 Go on the 1st one. Steam Library for Arma games and Civilization are occupying 220 Go on n°2. Of course, I am using some large mods such as CUP and The Unsung. As a security measure, I never use more than 80% of the capacity of a disk whether it is a conventional hard disk or a SSD. Using a single 256 GB SSD, you'll quickly understand that managing and manipulating Mods files from your SSD to a conventional HD is both unpleasant and risky, so I will suggest to get a 2nd in order to host your Arma Steam library. I have started that way ... some time ago! Edited July 29, 2019 by oldbear I am not really a bear, but feeling like an old one now
