A piece of news like this one should trigger strong international reactions. The Western countries should do a bit more instead of just bombing and praying to see if God / Allah or whatever comes and solves the situation. Even if its just for self-preservation, after all we are already collecting a few sparkles from the Mid. East fire. Wait until they grow doesn't sound like a good plan. Sooke 13 Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) “God laughs at men who deplore the effects whose causes they cherish." Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet Like I said in another thread, I'm convinced we will never be successful if we are fighting islamism with weapons. We must understand the muslim world is going through an existential crisis. To some extend, islamism is a reaction to the "westernization" of muslim countries. For decades we have been forcing our values onto other culture. Be it through economical, military or political means. Instead of policing the world we should try to be an example for the rest world (that sounds cocky!). We should allow them to make the mistakes we've made and to learn by themselves. There is no better lesson than the one you learn for yourself. It's a fallacy to think we engage in wars to liberate oppressed people. Back in 2011 you could have made a list of 10 countries worst than libya as far as human rights were concerned and their leaders are still standing today. What about Ethopia ? Central-African Republic ? South Soudan ? Palestine ? Burma ? Tibet ? Qatar ? Saudi Arabia ? How come we still have so many good friends amongst the worst leaders of this planet ? vilas 477 Posted January 14, 2015 Vilas I fail to see the connection between the Sultan of Brunei and IS ( ISIS, ISIL, whatever ).Besides that Brunei is an majority Islamic country and not precisely a democracy, so it's quite logic the action. we should be the same to them as they are to us, there should be equality - if they can ban something our, we can ban their
Sooke 13 Posted January 14, 2015 As far as I know the muslims haven't forced upon us any of their religious celebration. What would you like to ban exactly ?
sudayev 27 Posted January 14, 2015 I found the video on liveleak. It's well edited, no shooting, no blood. And why the bearded man is wearing new type of Russian military clothing? On the other thing video was released by islamists and booy was featured in propaganda video from the last year. This is really strange.
mistyronin 1181 Posted January 14, 2015 we should be the same to them as they are to us, there should be equality - if they can ban something our, we can ban their I don't know you, but I don't want to be equal to someone that bans festivities, think of women as under-human and similar. IMO we have to act according to our values in our countries. Our values ( at least in Western Europe ) are human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc. If we start enacting laws equals to theirs, we'll be behaving just like them, then we as a culture would be defeated. oxmox 73 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) Interview with German 'Islamic State' fighter surfaces Jürgen Todenhöfer (pictured), thought to be the first Westerner to report from inside the "Islamic State," has released an interview with a German IS fighter. The man says the group wants to take its fight to Europe. Filmed in Mosul with masked men carrying guns in the background, Todenhöfer also published the interview on his Facebook page. In an accompanying comment., the journalist said he had only decided to release the video after much thought. In the 13-minute video clip, the bearded 30-year-old from Solingen admitted that IS had ambitions far beyond its own borders. Already, he said, the group was making inroads in Libya, Egypt, Yemen, and "the so-called Saudi Arabia." "We say, we have no borders, we have only front lines - which means the expansion will not stop," said Emde. Unlimited genocide However, he said, Shiite Muslims - who globally number some 150 million and who IS regard as "apostates" - would all be killed unless they converted, even if that meant a genocide of unprecedented proportions. "100 million, 200 million, 500 million - we don't care about the number," he said. "Every apostate will be killed." ....more about the interviw: http://www.dw.de/interview-with-german-islamic-state-fighter-surfaces/a-18192529 The video interview inside the Islamic State with english subtitles: https://www.facebook.com/JuergenTodenhoefer?fref=ts My respect about Todenhoefer that he has the courage to go inside the Islamic State as a western journalist, after several got beheaded already. After watching the video and the statements of this german jihadist you get even more the impression that the ideology of the IS is really terrifying. oxmox 73 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) Doesn´t the Islam have some kind of religios leadership that can "excommunicate" those fuckers? They only accept one type of Islam, even other muslimes are apostates for them i.e. Shias. This reminds on the roots of wahabism/salafism from Saudi Arabia. oxmox 73 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) Saudi Arabia Building 600-Mile-Long Wall Along Iraqi Border Saudi Arabia is erecting a 600-mile-long barrier along its border with Iraq; the Kingdom hopes the combined fence and ditch will protect it from an invasion at the hands of the Islamic State. "Like the Great Wall of China, built in 220-206 BC, Saudi Arabia's wall is meant to contain foreign invaders, and a similar, if less costly, barrier in under construction along Saudi Arabia's 1,000-mile southern border with Yemen," United Press International reported. It should be noted that last week, on January 5, Islamic State insurgents attacked a Saudi military contingent at the Suweif border post, 25 miles from the town of Arar, which borders the Iraqi province of Anbar. http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20150115/1016946708.html Maybe they should rather take some refugees and stop financing questionable forces instead to hide away.... ProfTournesol 956 Posted January 16, 2015 (BBC) US to send 400 troops to train Syrian rebels The US Department of Defense is to send 400 troops and hundreds of support staff to train moderate rebels against Islamic State (IS) in Syria. It is not yet clear where the troops will be drawn from or where they will be based, though Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia have offered to host them. Saudi Arabia and Qatar ? Seriously ? Someday Western countries should rethink with which countries they want to be allied to. Since when those countries are "moderate" ? oxmox 73 Posted January 22, 2015 U.S. officials say 6,000 ISIS fighters killed in battles Washington (CNN)The coalition fighting ISIS has killed more than 6,000 fighters, including half of the top command of the terror group, U.S. diplomatic officials said Thursday. U.S. intelligence estimates that ISIS has a total force of somewhere between 9,000 to 18,000 fighters. However, it is also believed the group can draw on thousands of other fighters whose loyalty shifts and could muster a force upwards of 31,000 total. The estimate was calculated by U.S. Central Command and finds ISIS fighters have been killed in Iraq and Syria by coalition airstrikes, according to a U.S. military official. http://edition.cnn.com/2015/01/22/politics/us-officials-say-6000-isis-fighters-killed-in-battles/index.html .....mmh the number sounds a little high just by airstrikes. Depends on what and how the equipment was used. If ISIS members are waving their banners and wearing or have a commonly themed 'uniform' then it would be easier to target them as opposed to differentiating between a civilian target and someone blending in with civilians as cover. Air platforms can be astonishingly deadly platforms when allowed to do what they were designed to do and with good information.
