(BBC News) Nigeria's Boko Haram pledges allegiance to Islamic State

Nigerian militant group Boko Haram has pledged allegiance to Islamic State (IS), according to an audio statement.

The message, which has not been verified, was posted on Boko Haram's Twitter account and is believed to be by the group's leader, Abubakar Shekau

Who cares what happens in the IS franchise...

Domino effect, one group that pledges allegiance to them, would probably also b supported by them as well, more groups will do the same if they are on the same

or OPFOR level of thinking as ISIS, it dont take a major know group in a country to change much for ISIS, you can even get these little groups spread

throughout the world we dont know about, like gangs ect,.

From the big guy to the little, and I think this is possible with some of the stories i been hearing of individuals and small groups of people traveling over to Syria/Iraq

to join ISIS, even ISIS not to long ago gave a message to spread their terror wherever you are, we cant think for a minute that some crazy stupid shit wont happen

by even impressionable kids, or those people who are mentally unstable enough to do something towards folks in their home town or wherever.

Speaking of which i said earlier this year that there was a guy caught who trying to get to Syria to join ISIS but was to stupid to keep quiet as he told his parents,

this guy lived in the town where I work! which is 25miles from me!

So ya he got caught and thats the end of that story, but seriously if someone is willing to travel to join ISIS and do whatever ISIS asks of them, what do you

think is possible from the same people that live close to you or are in your country, this shit is happening and will happen.

FBI here has put out warnings to those who are wanting to join ISIS

Obama traces origin of ISIS to Bush-era Iraq invasion (RT article-Reuters-Vice News)

President Barack Obama traced the origins of Islamic State militants back to the presidency of George W. Bush and the invasion of Iraq back in 2003, arguing that its growth was an “unintended consequence†of the war.

In an interview with Vice News, President Obama said the rise of Islamic State (IS, also known as ISIS/ISIL) can be directly linked to America’s excursion into Iraq under Bush.

“Two things: One is, ISIL is a direct outgrowth of Al-Qaeda in Iraq that grew out of our invasion,†Obama said in an interview with VICE News. “Which is an example of unintended consequences. Which is why we should generally aim before we shoot.â€

“What I’m worried about†he said, “is even if ISIL is defeated, the underlying problem of disaffected Sunnis around the world – but particularly in some of these areas including Libya, including Yemen – where a young man who’s growing up has no education, has no prospects for the future, is looking around and the one way he can get validation, power, respect, is if he’s a fighter."

“That’s a problem we’re going to have, generally. And we can’t keep on thinking about counterterrorism and security as entirely separate from diplomacy, development, education.â€

The president dismissed concerns that the US spends too much on foreign aid, noting that just over one percent of the federal budget goes to other nations. He argued that “we should be thinking about making investments†overseas that will prevent America from sending troops to engage in military operations.

Obama’s comments regarding ISIS mark the first time he has framed the extremist group’s existence as a consequence of American foreign policy decisions.

http://rt.com/usa/241325-obama-isis-iraq-bush/

By the way, taken one sentence from the last Yemen posting:

-->Washington spent $25 billion to re-create and arm Iraq’s security forces after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion, only to see the Iraqi army easily defeated last year by a ragtag collection of Islamic State fighters who took control of large parts of the country.

It's what I have repeated in this thread over and over, it's nice to see that the POTUS himself agrees with me in this question.

That’s a problem we’re going to have, generally. And we can’t keep on thinking about counterterrorism and security as entirely separate from diplomacy, development, education.

I agree completely with his words here.

Thing is, are they gonna be only nice words? Or there will be deeds?

Claims US is supporting ISIS popping up

In fight for Tikrit, U.S. finds enemies on both sides of the battle lines

BAGHDAD — As American forces open another front of battle in Iraq, they find themselves on the same side as an array of armed groups that not only consider the United States an enemy but also accuse it of actively supporting Islamic State militants.

Since the U.S.-led coalition planes launched their first airstrikes in the Islamic State-held city of Tikrit on Wednesday night, threats and accusations from Shiite militias who were leading the battle there have grown. Several of the Iranian-backed groups accused coalition aircraft of bombing a headquarters for pro-government fighters in the city on Friday, promising retribution.

The claim was the latest in a long string of accusations leveled at the United States since its first airstrikes against the Islamic State in August. Rumors of coalition planes dropping weapons supplies to Islamic State militants and attacking pro-government fighters are now widely held beliefs in a country where conspiracy theories are rife.

Most Shiite militia leaders and some commanders in Iraq’s so-called popular mobilization units, a grouping of militiamen and Shiite volunteers, have refused to fight in the battle for Tikrit until U.S. planes leave. But they also say they have refused to leave their positions, and some have threatened to shoot down American planes.

Conspiracy theories run deep

“Everybody knows that the Americans are dropping supplies to Daesh,†said Brig. Gen. Abed al-Maliki, a senior Iraqi army commander based in the city of Samarra, about 80 miles north of Baghdad, using another term for the Islamic State.

What’s more, he said, during some of the fiercest fighting around Samarra last year, U.S. Special Operations forces dropped behind enemy lines to assist Islamic State militants.

U.S. airstrikes against the Islamic State, he contended, are probably just a cover for efforts to support the group.

“It’s just a show,†he said, sitting in the city’s army command headquarters. “If the Americans want to finish something, they will finish it. If they wanted to liberate Iraq, they could.â€

A U.S. defense official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter, called the notion of the United States assisting the Islamic State “ludicrous,†given that members of the U.S. military were risking their lives to fight the same group.

Visiting U.S. officials are left to fend off questions about whether they support the group. The topic was the first to be broached in questions when Gen. John Allen, special envoy for the coalition to counter the Islamic State, met with Iraqi journalists in January.

The theories are stoked by U.S. involvement in the wider region, where Sunni states such as Saudi Arabia are battling for influence against Shiite Iran. While the United States has backed the same side as Saudi Arabia in conflicts in Syria and Yemen, in Iraq it finds itself on the other side of the battle.

“The story, I think, is that we’re supplying [the Islamic State],†he said. “And that, in fact, is not correct.â€

With all these accusations they should get photo and or video evidence of the U.S. supporting ISIS, I dont think the people of the U.S. would stand for it if

there was actual evidence, shit would hit the fan here.

in their case it is possible, to accuse enemy of supporting,

it might be either Russian/Iran intel or simply taqiya realised by ISIS

does anyone remember history how Nazis removed best soviet officers in 30s? they prepared proofs that Soviet generals were spys, Stalin ordered to shoot officers, thanx to it Nazis were get rid of best commanders in Soviet Army 2 years before entering WW2,

islamists hate all western wold and USA is symbol of this world, so they do all to turn lies into something that people would belive, to have possibility to return US strikes and clean way to destroy Israel and turn all region into caliphate

UN: Number of foreign fighters joining militants skyrockets to 25,000

A panel commissioned by the UN has found that the number of would-be militants and their countries of origin have increased dramatically. The report calls Syria and Iraq "finishing school" for foreign extremists

From a few thousand fighters in a handful of countries a decade ago, the number of foreign fighters leaving home to join groups like al Qaeda and the "Islamic State" (IS) has skyrocketed to 25,000 people from over 100 nations according to a United Nations report obtained by the media late Wednesday.

Afghanistan's own security forces estimated in March that around 6,500 foreign fighters were active in their country. The report also suggested that the problem had spread significantly in Yemen, Libya, and Pakistan, and to a lesser but still significantly in Somalia, several nations in northern Africa, and the Philippines.

The report highlighted the rise in origin countries from a small group in the 1990s to over 100, more than half the nations of the world. It cited the "high number" of militants leaving from Tunisia, Morocco, France, and Russia as well as an increase in fighters from the Finland, the Maldives, and Trinidad and Tobago.

"Those who eat together and bond together can bomb together," the experts wrote. "The globalization of al Qaeda and associates, particularly visible with (Islamic State), but also evident with al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (in Yemen), creates a deepening array of transnational social networks."

Spanish intel informed today about capture of 6 jihadists in Spain who planned beheadings in Spain

More on that:

(EuroNews) Catalonia: 11 arrested for suspected links to ISIL

“We have been working with the National Court for 13 months,†said Ramon Espadaler, Catalan Chief of Internal Affairs. “We had important information, that clearly showed an explicit will to carry out attacks in Catalonia.â€

The raids are believed to have been a continuation of an operation launched in Bulgaria in December 2014. Then, three youths were detained after attempting to travel to Syria to fight alongside ISIL militants.

(El País) 11 arrested in raid against jihadist cell in Catalonia

Eleven people were arrested in Catalonia on Wednesday morning in a raid against a jihadist cell that is believed to have been planning an attack in the northeastern region.

The suspects are 10 men and a woman all aged between 17 and 45. Five of them are Spanish citizens, five hail from Morocco and one is from Paraguay.

(Gov. of Catalonia) Counter-Terrorist operation by Catalan Police at various points across Catalonia

The counter-terrorist unit involved some 360 agents from Catalonia’s police force and included raids and detentions in the Barcelona and Tarragona areas. Those arrested are suspected of crimes linked to jihadist terrorism and origniated from Spain, Paraguay and Morocco. According to Catalonia’s Home Affairs Minister, Ramon Espadaler, at present there have been 11 detentions of suspected members of religious jihadist cells associated with the ISIS Islamic extremist rebel group.

- - -

One interesting fact is that some of the suspected terrorist were native catholic Spanish citizens with far-right ideology that converted to Islam few years ago.

They also seem to had contacts with Neo-Nazi parties with whom they prepared attacks against Jewish centers in Catalonia.

The Catalan Police did an outstanding job (they tracked the Jihadist for almost a year and stopped them when they were gonna become operative).

One interesting fact is that some of the suspected terrorist were native catholic Spanish citizens with far-right ideology that converted to Islam few years ago.

1) because western world looses traditional morality so people looking for traditional rules turn into harsh religion rules,

2) there is conspiracy theory that Himmler was praising Islam for strict rules, hate to Jews etc. if you would study, you can find things that i do not want to publish there but if you ever connected far right and nazis with Christianity you are in deep mistake,

SS was against Christianity, SS was more friendly to Islam and Pagan religions, so yes, it is possible that far far right is closer to Islam , especially when some movements are not Chrisitian , for example in Poland some percent of far far movements say about Pagan tradition, not about Chritianity which they see religion of weakness, because Christian ideology is in fact ideology of forgiving and weakness , so it is unacceptable for such people,

people who convert to Islam do it cause they look for harsh strict rules to obey , because people from such movements many time are loonies of society easy to manipulate by stupid ideas (another example - all UFO conspiracy theorists)

3) because of banksters and all economical crisis stuff people tend to look for Jews as cause due to some percent of Jews in banking , Islam is hate to Jews so people use it, the more evil from banking system we get, the more people are turning against Jews seeing few Jews as CEO in some banks, thus in unemployed young not educated part of society it is easy to apply Jihad ideas, converts are specially idiotic people - look at Sharia patrol in London, one of those famous murderers was also convert, he just was infected by ideas from Quoran to murder "infidels", converts are very dangerous people often, cause opposite to native Arabs, they see positives in Sharia, while some native Arabs escape from this Sharia, if those converts were living in Arab country, they would be religious policemen,

They also seem to had contacts with Neo-Nazi parties with whom they prepared attacks against Jewish centers in Catalonia.

unless it is true , not fake told by politicall correctness to make anti-islamic arguments weaker, cause knowing media and governments i could believe this could be fake to found something against those who are against Islam in Europe

In any case, it's still really weird for me.

I mean, according to different reports one of the guys was having parties, had lots of friends, and in less than two years his Facebook became monothematic about Islam and he had only messages from people with Arabic names.

We are talking about who was a successful social middle class catholic man, not some poor marginated Muslim that was radicalized in the suburbs.

not some poor marginated Muslim that was radicalized in the suburbs.

another time i gonna repeat myself - you do not understand religion influence on brain,

radicalisation because of poverty - is bs , but politically correct bs justification/whitening,

it has nothing to do with any poverty - as scandinavian media love to believe,

rich guys also get radical ,

religion radicalism is simply kind of fascism , uberhuman (believers) vs slaves (non believers),

religion is something build on dogmas and on philosophy of belief of life after death and reward in heaven,

believer believes that he is right because god gave him superiority and others are blind, stupid, evil, venom etc. etc. etc. so he has right to punish them ,

radical religious people are very close to nazis/fascists/racists , just "race" is replaced by "god"

it is similar scheme of thinking but built on other root/object

what is difference of man who:

- want to kill all White/Black cause he is Black/White,

- wants to kill all Christians cause he is Muslim,

- want to kill all Poles cause he is Russian,

- want to kill all bikers cause he loves cars,

- want to kill all cats cause he loves dogs

?

different is object of hate/love, but not scheme of thinking "kill others, i am right, i am always right, you are always wrong"

it is not because of any income class , people who own Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls Royce also kill for religious reasons - just look at Saudi Arabia, they are religious extremists although they never faced even being poor , they know poverty from movies, they have golden locks in their cars, they just believe that they are superb because god told so and they have right to enforce it on others

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2531622/People-religious-spiritual-thicker-brains-Those-believe-god-deeper-outer-layer.html

i do not have idea if it is true and issue is in different work of brain -

i am not specialist in this, i only know about other brains of psychopats (or those who had accident in forehead and suddenly start to be violent and cheating)

some time ago, because of some forensic jobs, i had to study Robbert D Hare books about pshyopaths, there is solid proof that psychopats have some differences in front part of brain

maybe scientists found similar for religious people

look at me, or Slayer vocalists - we all grown in very strict Catholic families - neither me nor Slayer vocalist ever followed religion since childhood, opposite to cousins, aunts , parents ,

since early teenage i never believed in any bullshit about life after death, soul, non-touchable stuff

but some people i know from family would never make oral or anal sex because they would afraid to go to hell instead of heaven, they eat only fish in Friday etc. and they look at me as weirdo cause i eat beacon on Friday, for me they are weirdos cause how can anyone eat Fish because there is given day in callendar, i eat fish when i want to eat fish ;)

i do not know if it has any coincidence, but i never believed in all that my family believes,

maybe this all is in our brains cause human is also kind of animal and machine that works how brain prescribes it

cause culture pressure is not touching me for example (i never followed fashion, all my neigborhood listened to disco, techno, i was only one metalhead in street, now all my friends prefere elegant suits, i wear only camo bdu and i feel sick having to wear suit, others feel sick to wear old uniform ) etc. etc. etc.

sounds weird for you ?

i know personally following case

one Polish pilot had accident, he broke part of skull, his frontal part of brain was damaged,

suddenly he start beating his family,

they evicted him from army cause he was too dangerous , he became pshychopatic after accident,

he get illegal gun and wounded someone on the street before he was locked in madhouse,

cause of it was fatal accident in which he hurted part of brain, i know case from my street cause this guy was almost my neighbor

and people from the street knew this guy as shy nice family person from the past before accident,

maybe something there is in human brains that make some people believe in UFO raping them during sleep

but this can be only told by scientists who deal with neurology

Secret Papers show that the IS organisation itself, is not so religious. Rather exploiting the religion and fanatism to achieve their well calculated aims. The IS is very well organized based on a massive surveilance and intelligence structure.

Only one major important question gets no answer: Who is financing this all ?

The SPIEGEL report is quiete long and its suggested to read the full article.............

The Terror Strategist: Secret Files Reveal the Structure of Islamic State (SPIEGEL International, April 18th)

An Iraqi officer planned Islamic State's takeover in Syria and SPIEGEL has been given exclusive access to his papers. They portray an organization that, while seemingly driven by religious fanaticism, is actually coldly calculating.

Samir Abd Muhammad al-Khlifawi was the real name of the Iraqi, whose bony features were softened by a white beard. But no one knew him by that name. Even his best-known pseudonym, Haji Bakr, wasn't widely known. But that was precisely part of the plan. The former colonel in the intelligence service of Saddam Hussein's air defense force had been secretly pulling the strings at IS for years.

But when the architect of the Islamic State died, he left something behind that he had intended to keep strictly confidential: the blueprint for this state. It is a folder full of handwritten organizational charts, lists and schedules, which describe how a country can be gradually subjugated. SPIEGEL has gained exclusive access to the 31 pages, some consisting of several pages pasted together.

In a sense, the documents are the source code of the most successful terrorist army in recent history.

image-836847-panoV9free-tpii.jpg

This document is Haji Bakr's sketch for the possible structure of the Islamic State administration.

The Master Plan

The story of this collection of documents begins at a time when few had yet heard of the "Islamic State." When Iraqi national Haji Bakr traveled to Syria as part of a tiny advance party in late 2012, he had a seemingly absurd plan: IS would capture as much territory as possible in Syria. Then, using Syria as a beachhead, it would invade Iraq.

In the 1980s, many of its residents had gone to work in the Gulf nations, especially Saudi Arabia. When they returned, some brought along radical convictions and contacts. In 2013, Tal Rifaat would become IS' stronghold in Aleppo Province, with hundreds of fighters stationed there.

What Bakr put on paper, page by page, with carefully outlined boxes for individual responsibilities, was nothing less than a blueprint for a takeover. It was not a manifesto of faith, but a technically precise plan for an "Islamic Intelligence State" -- a caliphate run by an organization that resembled East Germany's notorious Stasi domestic intelligence agency.

image-837574-panoV9free-wvvm.jpg

Graphic: A digital rendering of Haji Bakr's Islamic State organigram.

This blueprint was implemented with astonishing accuracy in the ensuing months. The plan would always begin with the same detail: The group recruited followers under the pretense of opening a Dawah office, an Islamic missionary center.

Of those who came to listen to lectures and attend courses on Islamic life, one or two men were selected and instructed to spy on their village and obtain a wide range of information.

The spies were told to note such details as whether someone was a criminal or a homosexual, or was involved in a secret affair, so as to have ammunition for blackmailing later.

As a postscript, he had added that several "brothers" would be selected in each town to marry the daughters of the most influential families, in order to "ensure penetration of these families without their knowledge."

The agents were supposed to function as seismic signal waves, sent out to track down the tiniest cracks, as well as age-old faults within the deep layers of society -- in short, any information that could be used to divide and subjugate the local population. The informants included former intelligence spies, but also regime opponents who had quarreled with one of the rebel groups.

Some were also young men and adolescents who needed money or found the work exciting. Most of the men on Bakr's list of informants, such as those from Tal Rifaat, were in their early twenties, but some were as young as 16 or 17.

---> The goal was to have everyone keeping an eye on everyone else.

Sharia, the courts, prescribed piety -- all of this served a single goal: surveillance and control.

The Beginnings in Iraq

It seemed as if George Orwell had been the model for this spawn of paranoid surveillance. But it was much simpler than that.

Bakr was merely modifying what he had learned in the past: Saddam Hussein's omnipresent security apparatus, in which no one, not even generals in the intelligence service, could be certain they weren't being spied on.

In 2010, Bakr and a small group of former Iraqi intelligence officers made Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the emir and later "caliph," the official leader of the Islamic State. They reasoned that Baghdadi, an educated cleric, would give the group a religious face.

Thousands of well-trained Sunni officers were robbed of their livelihood with the stroke of a pen. In doing so, America created its most bitter and intelligent enemies.

In 2010, the idea of trying to defeat Iraqi government forces militarily seemed futile. But a powerful underground organization took shape through acts of terror and protection rackets. When the uprising against the dictatorship of the Assad clan erupted in neighboring Syria, the organization's leaders sensed an opportunity.

By late 2012, particularly in the north, the formerly omnipotent government forces had largely been defeated and expelled. Instead, there were now hundreds of local councils and rebel brigades, part of an anarchic mix that no one could keep track of. It was a state of vulnerability that the tightly organized group of ex-officers sought to exploit.

  • Terrorism experts view IS as an al-Qaida offshoot and attribute the absence of spectacular attacks to date to what they view as a lack of organizational capacity.
  • Criminologists see IS as a mafia-like holding company out to maximize profit.
  • Scholars in the humanities point to the apocalyptic statements by the IS media department, its glorification of death and the belief that Islamic State is involved in a holy mission.

IS has little in common with predecessors like al-Qaida aside from its jihadist label.

There is essentially nothing religious in its actions, its strategic planning, its unscrupulous changing of alliances and its precisely implemented propaganda narratives. Faith, even in its most extreme form, is just one of many means to an end. Islamic State's only constant maxim is the expansion of power at any price.

Shifting Alliances

In 2003, the Damascus regime was panicked that then-US President George W. Bush, after his victory over Saddam Hussein, would have his troops continue into Syria to topple Assad as well.

Thus, in the ensuing years, Syrian intelligence officials organized the transfer of thousands of radicals from Libya, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia to al-Qaida in Iraq. Ninety percent of the suicide attackers entered Iraq via the Syrian route. A strange relationship developed between Syrian generals, international jihadists and former Iraqi officers who had been loyal to Saddam -- a joint venture of deadly enemies, who met repeatedly to the west of Damascus.

What the Future May Hold

The air strikes flown by the US-led coalition may have destroyed the oil wells and refineries. But nobody is preventing the Caliphate's financial authorities from wringing money out of the millions of people who live in the regions under IS control...

IS, after all, knows everything from its spies and from the data it plundered from banks, land-registry offices and money-changing offices. It knows who owns which homes and which fields; it knows who owns many sheep or has lots of money. The subjects may be unhappy, but there is minimal room for them to organize, arm themselves and rebel.

As the West's attention is primarily focused on the possibility of terrorist attacks, a different scenario has been underestimated: the approaching intra-Muslim war between Shiites and Sunnis. Such a conflict would allow IS to graduate from being a hated terror organization to a central power.

Already today, the frontlines in Syria, Iraq and Yemen follow this confessional line, with Shiite Afghans fighting against Sunni Afghans in Syria and IS profiting in Iraq from the barbarism of brutal Shiite militias. Should this ancient Islam conflict continue to escalate, it could spill over into confessionally mixed states such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Lebanon.

In such a case, IS propaganda about the approaching apocalypse could become a reality. In its slipstream, an absolutist dictatorship in the name of God could be established.
