In that case postponement till after release of a much needed patch may save you disappointment and aggravation.

Sure does. Am I going to get a BMP-1 that works? Or terrains where trees don't float above the ground?

You forget roadsigns and markers in the middle of an empty field like there was a town with roads and then it just disappeared

WIP mods are often better quality than this - and here we have a paid-for product mind you.

It does not really bode well that a paid for product without any support of any kind for over a year, has all work on such support on hold for another product that will require months of work to make its 'final' release actually contain something described as the heart of the game (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/06/13/bohemia-on-carrier-command-arma-iii/#more-62046). When will BIS finally start to properly address the problems in ACR? It was released in a pretty poor state and 12 months without support has really exhausted customer patience.

Sander

How comes you think they will address it at all? It would be a huge waste of effort.

Yes taking money/releasing ACR was a very bad decision, but that cannot be helped now.

Let ACR stay dead.

They asked money for it, so they have an obligation to the customer to deliver a good product that is fit for purpose. What was released last year was riddled with so many bugs, ones that were moreover rather easy to detect and are rather easy to fix that a patch would be necessary to make the DLC meet basic quality standards. Having some experience with creating content it would by my judgement not require that much effort to implement these fixes.

Both PMC and BAF had patches, why not ACR? So far, I think the biggest waste of effort was that spent by people posting ACR bugs on dev-heaven.

The installers for the last several OA beta patches referenced an ACR patch, so I thought one was (or had been) in the works...

With stuff being cut for the Arma 3 release it sounds as if BIS are struggling to cope with their workload. Unfortunately, I'd think that a patch would be far off (as if it isn't already!). Which is a shame as a lot of the models and textures are very nice.

That's exactly the point! :) If there wasn't so much good content in ACR, I'll bet none of us would be hankering so much for a patch to hone it all to perfection.

It is salvageable if only there had been put some effort into proper planning, preparation and testing. As it is one can take screenshots of the contents, but the DLC is not usable for mission making through the appalling config work that fails to match up to the quality of some of the models and textures. The configs are barely sufficient to make the contents visible in the game, but no thought appears to have been put into making it work in a consistent fashion. That makes the whole package basically useless.

Giving up the solving of old bugs for the sake of making new products with new bugs and getting some money for it had become usual BIS business strategy from ArmA1 release till now. So why are you still rant about unsolved bugs in ACR? The only more or less complete game I know is OFp, other titles are left with tons of bugs for the sake of getting more cash for new ones.

Yes. They are keeping their business alive. Welcome to market economy. This is BIS, not the GDR (German Democratic Republic).

Somehow the quality control does seem pretty reminiscent of the Trabant in this case.

Business is kept alive not only by short-term income.

Exactly. Releasing patches to fix problems maintains confidence in and loyalty to the company by the community. If problems aren't fixed, loyal fans begin to drift away, and interest in new products begins to lag. One of the strong points of BIS has been its excellent support and patching for Arma 2 and DLCs. Over the last year or so, things have begun to slide....

Obviously the QA/QC for ACR was woefully lacking if not totally non-existent. But the result is certainly not a total loss in my opinion, and it can be used to make very nice missions despite some glaring inconsistencies in the configs. Overall, I like its "look and feel," and was left with a good feeling after playing through the missions and campaign, despite some substantial frustrations, all of which have been well documented in dev-heaven.

Does the ACR pistol still have the AK gunshot sound?

I've been making ACR missions since December, I would've started it earlier but thought there was gonna be a patch to fix the critical stuff by the end of autumn 2012. :/

Well if BIS does not have time/will/resources to fix ACR, should they give the sources to community for making fixes by ourselves?

I hope BIS would fix this in the next patch!! I bought it at the last STEAM sale to support BIS and the maps, units and weapons are awesome. Its too bad I have to run it in sandbox mode until the campaigns are FIXED!
