Screenshots nothing like the game?

Hi All,

Bought Arma2 some time ago and finally got round to installing it. Been looking around at the Reinforcements page and some of the screenies posted are unbelievably beautiful.

Playing with max detail on Arma 2 and tbh, doesn't look anywhere near as good as Reinforcements. Is there a graphical upgrade for R, or are they photoshopped? :eek:

It might help to get your point across if you supplied screenshots of how the game looks like on your box and the BIS screens you refer to.

No they are not. BIS has a stron history of not editing their Ingame Screenshots. Maybe they used Post processing or they had some colour filters on

Please attach screen shots from your game. A number of things could be set up wrong, perhaps your d resolution is wrong, picture ratio, many many things.

Arma 2 really does look as beautiful as the official images, you just need the PC to run it.

Set the fillrate/3D resolution at 200% and all at max, not playable here, but pretty.

Definitely not photo-shopped.

But do the pictures you snap on vacation look like National Geographic? They waited for good lighting conditions and have perfect PCs that handle that the textures just right.

Some lighting and maps look better then others, I played one user mission in OA that visually didn't look much better than the original Op Flashpoint, I kid you not, but that's an exception, most of the time the visuals are pretty impressive without everything being on highest settings.

Those screens are probably not even done by BIS, but are part of the user-created mission pack that's being loaded in those screens.

Messing with the time and date can be important, for example changing the date on night shots will cause the moon and star cycles thus changing the overall lighting.

Likewise the time you choose for daytime lighting is important as well, I'm finding that 12-14 can be some of the best times for in daylight photo's.

Uff and lol - I was going to create ticket in Arma2 CIT (no offence to Vallhala guys) that these loading screens looks silly and rambo style

No thats how the games looks when you turn everything up to very High and use lighting filters that are available in the editor (like Movie day, Movie Night etc.)

But to be honest...I can't run the game in this setting in playable fps with anything more than just a dozend of units on map.

Depends on what is used for taking the picture...1st person does not show sun glare halos but all cameras (external view and camera objects) do.

Just so you know those 3 images are doctored. Has the faces of characters from the box covers pasted over in game models and possibly the muzzle flashes are added as well. Like i said, those loading screens i'm am certain are made by the makers of the Valhalla missions as you do not see them anywhere else.

There's a "Movie Day" and "Movie Night" module in the editor that allows you to reproduce this oversaturated effect.

The great picture-enhancer for me is to set 'Post-Process Effects' to 'disabled' to make things crisp and clear instead of an ungodly blur

Those are BI´s loading screens ;)

And yes they´re too rambo, that´s probably why despite being in teh ui pbo, they´re not being used.
