cleggy 297 Posted March 13, 2011 Some early WIP shots of my British FV432 Mk3 'Bulldog' APC. Ugly/Obsolete and a FANTASTIC waste of UK taxpayers money IRL. But hey, if I've paid for it then I want one! Now open for critique from those more knowledgeable than myself. If you don't speak up soon I may even get to release it, and it will be wrong and it will be your fault!:)
Cyteless 10 Posted March 13, 2011 Awesome man, good to see more Brit kit. Best of luck on developing this.
Darkhorse 1-6 16 Posted March 13, 2011 Well, several issues pop out. #1 - Where is the hello kitty paintjob? #2 - hello kitty mudflaps? #3 - self destruct switch, for when the driver can't take the ugliness anymore? :p In all seriousness, it looks great. I can see the ugliness, but you get to blame the government for that. (Hey, we do it over here too. :D)
Kristian 47 Posted March 13, 2011 Am I the only one that thinks it looks pretty neat actually? (IRL and the Model seen here)

Stagler 39 Posted March 14, 2011 Cleggy you gonner make the RWS one with an M2?
R0adki11 3949 Posted March 14, 2011 Ugly/Obsolete and a FANTASTIC waste of UK taxpayers money IRL.But hey, if I've paid for it then I want one! i rather like it, im sure it was better than trying to buy more Warriors
cleggy 297 Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks for the replies - even Darkhorse who has entred into the true spirit of this thread:D Colonel Stagler: Cleggy you gonner make the RWS one with an M2? It's on the cards once I get the basic look sorted out. For some strange reason I thought modelling the 'Pratt' (SIC) turret would be easier - don't know what I was thinking - it's got windows for heavens sake! At least it forced me to learn some new stuff in O2, which can't be bad. Not looking forward to the texturing - methinks the 'Barracuda' wrapping is gonna be a challenge!
dimitri_harkov 10 Posted March 15, 2011 Great job cleggy. Love it & am looking forward to the release. Cheers, D.
DaveP 66 Posted March 15, 2011 Nicely done, there's a lack of 'middle of the road' armoured vehicles for Brits in arma 2 between the 'better than a jeep but not by much' jackal and the 'the only way you're killing this thing is with old age' warrior and challenger
cleggy 297 Posted March 15, 2011 there's a lack of 'middle of the road' armoured vehicles for Brits in arma 2 That about sums up what I'm aiming for, personally I prefer my apc's to be lightly armed as I think it makes mobile infantry combat a bit more interesting. No auto cannon 'blatting' everything. Anyway, back to the UV unwrapping ... boring, boring, boring.
rhaggan 10 Posted March 16, 2011 Good stuff more brit kit we need more. Just waiting for they day we get a snatch landrover and I can get some NI stuff on the go...
cleggy 297 Posted April 9, 2011 Some more WIP shots of 'Ugly Betty'. I've gone back to basics on the textures because I want to try a new approach. Just playing with me 'normals' at the moment - and let's face it who doesn't play with their normals at least once a day!:D Aside from that - the second pic shows my latest attempt at the 'barracuda' wrapping. If you have a couple of drinks and look at it sideways I think I almost get away with it:)
Chris1986 0 Posted April 9, 2011 Looking very nice , the barracuda wrap looks good too , im sure it will look nicer when properly textured with the normals keep it up , really looking forward to this

dm 9 Posted April 9, 2011 Model looks great. I assume everything is animated? :D Only thing I can really see is the exhaust looks a little small? (diameter seems too small)
Double Doppler 10 Posted April 9, 2011 I love this APC it is one of my favourites... Good work, keep it up

cleggy 297 Posted April 10, 2011 Thanks for the replies. I'm not the fastest modeller in the world (still learning)- so every bit of encouragement helps. DM: I assume everything is animated? Only thing I can really see is the exhaust looks a little small? (diameter seems too small) Well, the wheels and turret turn and the drivers hatch opens, but you can't take the engine out yet!:) Regarding the exhaust - I had hoped no-one would notice! Had a devil of a job getting it to fit in-between the armour and the hull but it does need to be looked at. There are other bits I'm not entirely happy with - but if I go there I might be tempted to start from scratch.:D
slatts 1978 Posted April 10, 2011 just wondering, whats with the triangle shape armour on the side? what does it stop?
da12thMonkey 1943 Posted April 10, 2011 just wondering, whats with the triangle shape armour on the side? what does it stop? It's Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) designed by Rafael in Israel. I imagine the shape is something to do with optimizing the coverage of the blast pattern when the ERA bricks go off, but you're unlikely to find an in-depth explanation of how it helps to defeat various HEAT warheads for obvious reasons. Looks good cleggy
dm 9 Posted April 10, 2011 Well, the wheels and turret turn and the drivers hatch opens, but you can't take the engine out yet! Hehe. I was thinking more along the lines of the mortar hatches and the rear door? Regarding the exhaust - I had hoped no-one would notice!Had a devil of a job getting it to fit in-between the armour and the hull but it does need to be looked at. Yeah, I'm a fastidious bastard. Especially when it comes to Brit armour. just wondering, whats with the triangle shape armour on the side? what does it stop? Its addon ERA, so stuff like RPGs. Looks good cleggy It may be directional to reduce friendly casualties when it goes of. Nice APC, will be using it when it is released.
cleggy 297 Posted April 10, 2011 Hehe. I was thinking more along the lines of the mortar hatches and the rear door? Strangely enough I had considered animating the mortar hatch - but then I thought about having to model the interior in the main ResLOD and broke out in a cold sweat! However, theoretically, I suppose the way to do it would be with a user animation? Do people really want animating doors and stuff?
