Do be aware though that some community groups won't allow your addon on servers if it causes errors.

why are you such a crusader against addons that have some errors in the RPT... it's not like they are causing server lag or clientside lag or crashing the game... relax.

Then the hell with those community groups they can live without this.

Why not just release it as a beta and squish the bugs later? Wouldn't that kind solve both issues. People can try it out but you aren't releasing the first version with bugs?

Oh mate. I'm a huge fan of your work, but I think you're wrong here. In an ideal world, the RPT should have nothing but debug in it.

I know I'm living in a dreamworld, but scripts writing errors to the RPT can only be bad. Maybe they don't create much lag, but they do show that something is not right. An script writing anything but debug is a broken script.

Well, at all, you should take your time with that. Play a few rounds, take a look in your RPT (Play just with A2 or CO, not with other mods^^ Like I did, and I was wondering why I get so much rpt's^^) and then you'll see if you can get rid of them, one after one.

The RPT's mean something, this I found out painfully in my thread. At the end, there where only Updating Base Classes, but they are just as bad as most of the others. Make a beta release, IF YOU WANT, but I can tell you, if you going to release it now, with all the errors, then you will again be pointed out, every day. And you would get new suggestions, new opinions and new ideas! "how you can do that, how you can do this..."

And then there are another thousand things at once, you should do, or could do. So, I would say, just try to fix the errors but don't release it, you would just getting into more work I guess...

Ha ah, well, thats my opinion...

Hope you understand what I trying to say, just take your time mate. We all could wait months for you awesome nice shit mate ;)

For an addon maker of such high caliber as OS, and someone who makes without a doubt one of the most popular addons, it would be a shame for people not to use the mod because of errors. People are too impatient. If OS releases it labelled as a beta, then it is understandable. But as an RC, it would be a shame.

Also, Gossamer, if you have a problem with me, feel free to address me via PM.

RC kinda is a beta isn't it?

The term release candidate (RC) refers to a version with potential to be a final product, which is ready to release unless fatal bugs emerge. In this stage of product stabilization, all product features have been designed, coded and tested through one or more beta cycles with no known showstopper-class bug.

RC is basically saying it mostly works, there might be some things left to fix.

I don't have a problem with you, but you keep saying communities will not host mods if they have errors in the RPT, I don't think that's true. There are many communities that will continue to host these mods unless they actually cause crashes.

You're right, definitely! But would be good if it not happens I guess. A bug-free version would have much less work afterwards! For the user, such as for OS. And if he still needs time for it, it's worth it. Ok, less talking, at least its OS' choice! He'll know when the time comes, when the mod is ready!

Oh and we had this talk about communities not hosting mods having errors in the RPT already, brought even more worse trouble! So please, don't! :D

I concur. Delay the release 1-2 weeks if it means finding the motivation to kill a few errors.

If not I'll patch your work anyway ;).

Still one of my top mods for the Arma 2 series. Adds what BI should of added from the start. I hope they kill that FIFO particle issue for you OS.

release it, get some feedback from the community focusing on the rpt errors. Why do everything when the community can assist.

Then I would say, release and let the community help indentify and help squash the problems for you. I would be glad to run through and help with RPT's.

At the end of the day the guys who love your mod i'm sure would be glad to help out, its par for the course mate :)

Another option is Closed Beta it to the guys like Rex etc who have extensive RPT experience so they can RPT fix, leaving you to start on the new visuals.

I would just go for a full beta release as you just can't beat it in terms of the bug finding power of the full community. Even with closed beta teams doing testing for several weeks there are usually a number of bugs that get missed and picked up by the wider community upon general release.

As long as you make people know that it's a beta/release candidate and not the final, polished version you will set expectations at the right level and shouldn't get any whining about imperfect quality.

Keep up the great work OS.

and i think as long as you announce it just here and not one more popular sites like Armaholic etc, you will only get serious and helpful feedback

Denying the rest of the public? I think its best to have closed testing with no announcement then "BIS Forum only"..... people will only moan :D

Well, maybe you should just leave it to OS. It's his mod, and he should go for his feelings on this. And stuff like that actually makes no sense I guess. If OS wants to know whether it is good or bad, he simply invites a certain persons to an beta event!

OS, make your visual stuff, things you like to work on. And the SM stuff will come later though. While working on stuff we actually dont want we're loosing our motivation and the quality declines, because you just want to be done with that! So you can properly address the real stuff.

Take your time, think about it and really mates, lets talk about something else than just about publications... I mgiht be not really sure, but this is really off topic... I guess :D

My opinion.

totally agreed!

yes my idea would be some sort of closed beta but lets give the decision to OS. its his mod and he can do with it whatever he wants.

so do it like your comfortable with it

+1

Never listen to people who suggest you to release bugged work - they aren´t doing any good.

OS, you really need to crank the warFX up some steps.

Just installed the good old beta and was blown away again.

The new one is simply to tame, it´s like "hmm was that vanilla or a warfx explosion"

And to all the "leave OS ALONE!!!" you remind me of:
