Loved SWAT 4 but it had 1 huge step back from SWAT 3, penitration. S3 modeled all different surfaces and amunition. You had to be aware of over penitration and cover vs concealment. S4 threw it all out the window.

I never played BF3 but I have a one, two, no three ... ooops four questions?

1. Can you use your PC like in BIS games as a host (server) for others to join you on your PC?

2. Can you have your own leased server and join it with others like with BIS games or do you need to join on an EA/Origin server always?

3. If it is only possible on EA/Origin servers: Do you have to pay monthly etc.? (I remember games, I think EA games, that worked like that ... 5 - 10 Euros/months).

4. Can I do offline games on the train on my gaming notebook without any internet connection?

Thanx !

1. no

2. yes you can. what you can't do is use your existing server for A2 (rented or owned) to host a BF3 server, as there are no server files provided.

3. you need to rent a server from EA's parteners. That said, i can tell you now that for only one game, the prices are pretty high (for collocating a quad core server - Kellys one the price is 32 pounds a month, and i can stick as many game servers as i want on it).

4. no. only SP, but that harly resembles the MP games.

From what I remember in SWAT4 I never encountered any organized resistance and suspects that were placed inside rooms always remained there even if you were fighting behind the door.

The suspects in SWAT 4 do patrol and react to sound/situations etc.

I played last night JFYI.

I just got SWAT 4 for my birthday this year and they do patrol around. I can't count the number of times that I stupidly went to go pick a lock without proper cover only to have some guy open the door on the otherside as I frantically tried to stab him with the lock pick (that doesn't work). They didn't always seem to react to things in the next room and there was bullet penetration I thought because I know I shot guys through doors but maybe it isn't to the level that it was in SWAT 3. I had that game a long time ago too but I let me neighbor borrow it and I don't know where it went. I also think that in the expansion guys will pick their weapons back up if you don't restrain them on time. Matter of fact I am sure of this. Good game though. Took me forever to beat the hotel level.

I thought Modern Warfare 1 to be good, a nice breath of fresh air from the overdone tired and tested ww2 CODs before it. Modern Warfare 2 was much better in every way, the storyline was very deep and thrilling and It was like a proper full on michael bay John woo action film. Yes the levels were scripted, the enemy was dumb and you always had the same outcome, blah de blah, but It was very entertaining. I cant wait to get my hands on modern warfare 3 because im only in it for the sp campaign and i knew it would be carried on as the last one ended so abruptly and left open

Did you just try to compliment something by saying it was like a Michael Bay film? I personally think the WWII ones were better. It seemed more like you were actually attacking positions as someone pointed out earlier. Here I just feel like I'm running through even smaller glorified hallways waiting for people to pop out.

That's why I want ArmA to go WWII. It would be awesome. Although I would prefer 1980s WWIII.

The WW2 CoDs were really good games as was MW1.

I thought MW2 had one of the stupidest and most implausible stories I've ever come across. It plays like a Clancy book called 'SSN'. A truly hilarious excercise in 'NATO, fuck yeah'.

MW3's story is equally ridiculous and as much as I can suspend disbelief, it's just not possible where MW2 and 3 are concerned. 'Aliens' has a more plausible story than that nonsense.

To each their own of course :)

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3/user-reviews

402 negative user reviews and 1122 negative user ratings (and we are talking seriously negative here folks) and counting. You can clearly see what lying douchebags most 'review' sites are.

It was a very similar story where 'Rage' was concerned.

Not generally a fantasy RPG guy (since Ultima 7), but watching and reading the previews for this one just sold me and already preloaded it. Need something like this to sink my teeth into till Arma 3.

10 hours till unlock and 10 1/2 hours till beddy time

:D

Hello all

be aware the controls for this are almost (if not) identical to the console version.

Pressing keys to navigate left/right/up/down through my inventory feels very 1980's and much like a lazy port.

I doubt they've been changed to a more PC/Oblivion way of doing things.

Im not sure, but Skyrim felt a bit odd and i didnt feel as drawn to it as I did morrowind/ob/fallout et al.

Try before you buy!

Yeah I'm giving some serious thought to buying it tomorrow... but I'll try to hold out for initial impressions from non-pro reviewers. I was somewhat disappointed by Oblivion's handholding gameplay compared to Morrowind's, and if the gameplay handholding is similar i.e. has onscreen intrusive elements then I guess I might wait for the removal mods to fix it first.

Hello there,

Ditto, I think the mods will make this game playable for many as they did for previous games in the series.

Can I wait 3 or 4 months before buying it though? Oblivion is looking quite long in the tooth nowadays...

Yeah I don't really trust the previewers in terms of score but the common points that did sell me:

-Lavish detailed terrain that is supposedly incredibly immersive

-AI that even as enemies will collectively try to kill a major threat ie. Dragons. I love these kind of dynamics!

-Infinite side quests

-Did I say Dragons yet?

I enjoyed Morrowind somewhat till about half way thru and Oblivion with MMM mod also about half way before losing interest. Being a die-hard M&B fighting mechanics fan, I'm always a little disappointed in the actual fighting in this series but it still looks good enough for a couple of months of pretty solid immersion.

Hello all

As the the game being realistic..... ummm no.

it does nod to realism more than other similar games but dont expect Arma levels(!?) of realism.

(surely sim should replace the realism moniker?)

Ive confused myslef.

Anyhoo, if you are new to BF3 and havnt played its like before, it can be quite daunting. There's no tutorial whatsoever and at first you will be lost and scared and often killed.

Perservere though, and its a fun little thing.

As Pufu stated, there is no offline mode and SP is an entirely different beast to MP, one really cant compare the two.

Actually, the Modern Warfare series seems to be more "United Kingdom fuck yeah" than anything. The Americans are portrayed as the fuckups (MW1) or warmongers (MW2). It's Captain Price and his crew that fixes things behind the scenes. In fact, aside from the small battle in Afghanistan, most American victories in MW2 wouldn't have happened had it not been for Price.

Funny you should say that actually because I was contemplating changing it :)

Admittedly, I'll play Blocks Ops at a friend of mines house sometimes. It's fun in spurts but the constant spawning, running, spawning, running, gives me a headache after a while.

Honestly, most of the fun is in us competing at getting the most kills, at which point I realized we could compete in who can take a bigger dump and enjoy ourselves. We are guys like that. The game itself is blah. He likes it but he also likes free for all more then any MP mode. Gamers that like ArmA are just a different breed.

Personally, I'll never purchase a game that has a four hour campaign. The industry has just become a joke at this point in that regard. I remember when ten hour campaigns were considered unacceptably short.

You've got all this cash, all this development time, and all this eye candy but you can't create a 15-20 hour SP user experience?

If they did that they couldn't sell the extra hour of missions as DLC.

Someone should rewrite the lyrics of Modern Major General for CoD players.

"When I can tell at sight a mauser rifle from a javelin..."

I had that game a long time ago too but I let me neighbor borrow it and I don't know where it went.

Golden rule of life: Never borrow your PC games to anyone! I conceal my BIS games and other valuables in a secret compartment. When I die I want to be buried along with my most prized possessions like a Pharoah, I want to be buried with all my BIS games so that I can continue playing ARMA for eternity in the afterlife. :don 13:
