Fatigue from own bullets - no thanks!

Have you ever accidentally shot at the ground or an object that was blocking your trajectory (or even an enemy) at close range and then got that silly fatigue effect that's supposed to simulate suppression? Well, I don't like it and I'm not sure how many actually do. I think that the suppression feature should exclude the player's own bullets, don't you agree?

If you are shooting the ground or nearby objects that much, I'd say that perhaps you have greater issues to address! ;)

Well to be honest if you were firing and shot something 2 feet in front of your face unintentionally, you'd probably be a little nervous...

I do think it's over-exaggerated as you know it's your own bullets and not from someone trying to kill you; but I do think it should be there. I've had a rifle go off unintentionally before and kick up dust/debris about 5 feet from me, and it scared the piss out of me

I doubt that firing at the ground IRL will leave you breathless and unable to sprint or aim accurately for a minute. In addition to that, the unintentional mistakes are usually caused by loss of depth view, an uncertain angle on a ridge or an object hitbox issue, and you still lose stamina if you intentionally fire at an object or enemy close to you, knowing that the impact point is close. You get it even when you fire through glass windows inside a building, for pete's sake.

I agree, it's quite annoying. The main thing that causes this for me is the lousy collision detection. My gun looks like it's pointed around some wall, then I fire and the bullet hits the wall. :plain:

This often happens when trying to shoot through the glass windows in Takistan. Very annoying as the glass does not seems to really break.

This is definitely one of the more annoying things. I'm surprised nothing was done about it, and even more surprised I haven't noticed any discussion about it until now. Just figured that's something I'm going to have to live with as it'll probably never get fixed :(

I once shot a life round on a hunting trip by accident into the ground at my feet...and believe me...THAT MADE ME NERVOUS!

The only one who did not care was my friend 2 m nearby...he keept on sleeping. Since then I know that the loudest band you can eber hear is from a "unloaded" weapons that discharges to your feet...makes you heart run like a rabbit. It is marvelous BIS did even thinks of that ;)

Terrible bug...Does my head in. It's got nothing to do with realism and everything to do with, "side affect of not fully play tested new feature". Most of the times it happens with me it's a double whammy of frustration as it occurs when the bullet clips some invisible part of a wall/building/rock/object. Also the shooting through glass thing. The effect needs to be removed for your own bullets, it just makes you more annoyed at the bullet clipping, which is a fact of every game, but lets not highlight it eh?

Yeah I agree, but the point in this thread is that shooting at a wall at point blank may happen due to bad fire geometry. Your weapon is clearly sticking out of the wall with nothing that should stop a bullet - yet you hit the damned wall and suppress yourself.

Just try to shoot over those halfroundish small barriers. You may find it impossible to find a shooting position that doesn't suppress you. That is the nature of the problem. The exclusion of own bullets is a workaround for a problem that seems impossible to fix properly.

So, I'm all for it. If a proper solution for the underlying problem could be found (and we were all happy with it), then I would be against it because it had no purpose anymore other than allow bad shooting.

That's why I said the effect should be decreased; as IRL if you don't intentionally fire a gun it scares the shit out of you...Guess you have to experience it to know

Well how do you make a game where it knows if you intentionally/accidentally shoot? That would be sweet!! But until such a game/feature exists, this is a military sim where the "main attraction" isn't intentionally shooting things within arms reach; then I guess the devs will just have to assume that it's an accident.

I do agree that it's annoying when YOU know you didn't mean to hit it; so that's why it's more important to fix the problem which is bad collision detection on objects; which IMO should come waaayy before this. Having rounds hit in front of your face when you should have a clear shot is indeed very frustrating; but this feature shouldn't be sacrificed for another flaw.

Yes, I despise this. I just mentioned it yesterday in another thread, surprising it hasn't been hit on before. Glad I'm not alone. The biggest frustration is thinking you have a clear shot, hitting the building that you can't tell was there, and being unable to take a second shot because you're a nervous pussy. I think even the exaggeration from incoming rounds is a bit too high, sometimes you're cool under fire and the game fights against that.

This issue was reported a long time ago - I think I reported it 2 days after getting A2 and by that time it was already a duplicate. Sadly, nothing was done by BIS since then. It's a highly annoying bug.

I wonder if it might not be able to be changed easily with how it's currently set up. I think the engine just detects if bullets are landing close to the player and adjusts his stress based on how close they come, I doubt it checks to see who's firing the bullets. Perhaps that's an easy thing to add to the check, perhaps not.

AI can kill you, when you kill friendly AI by mistake (or it was running into your fire line) than other AI kills you as punishment

I think that only happens if you get a negative score, Vilas. Otherwise, the AI tolerates some degree of friendly fire.

maybe, but when i am on "urban mission" and my stupid AI goes before me, when i opened first fire... first bullet kills friendly AI,

it is fault of Arma NOT keeping formations,

in OFP formation was held,

noone was going before me, all were behind, keeping formations is for me problematic since Arma1, i remember in OFP i had no such problems, they were behind, not in front of me :/

now although i gave 8-8, 8-3 in "city" they go before me :/ they should do it only when 8-6 (vee)
