What are the most important sounds for you while using JSRS?

  1. 1. What are the most important sounds for you while using JSRS?

    • The weapon sounds!
    • The vehicle sounds!
    • Environmental sounds!
    • Explosions, Soniccracks, Bullethits, the sound of danger!
    • The script features like the "distance sounds"!
    • Everything combined! The whole Mod itself is important.

Supressors are "known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity."

That might be why :p

I know we're getting off topic, but...

(And believe it or not, California allows all types of class 3 firearms, except for suppressed weapons. The most stringent state [no class 3 weapons at all] is infact NY, followed by Hawaii, and Rhode Island)

While technically correct, actually getting permission for a Class 3/Title 2 weapon in CA is a long shot unless you "know someone" or are in the movie business*. I researched it and am disappointed I can't bring my SBR here from FL.

* Apparently SBSs are doable, though.

LordJarhead,

U.S. gun laws aside, I was messing with your 1.33 version for the first time last night and it was great. Thanks for all your efforts.

So, then that would be resolved now with the gun laws! Great :D

Yah, thanks. Going to upload some more videos about the new work. As you saw in the D81 video, I want to do something like that to all vehicleweapons. So in AH64 you have an inside noise while shooting (Loud, really metallic, like in all the afghan vids of AH64) and from the outside it'll sounds like usual.

Not too loud that we can't hear VON over it however :)

In the D81 video (which me likes very much!) are explosions going to get the same distance treatment?

Yah, thats an nice idea indeed. But as more I work with such scripts, the less you can use more soldiers. we only have 128 sound max at the same time. So every explosions would eat 2 of them, 30 soldiers shooting, 60 of them, vehicles, lets say 10, 15 or 20 of them, environment and we are already over 128 sounds ingame!

So I have to keep balance between such effects. but it would a nice idea and I going to try that.

I reckon you push the engine as hard as it can go. Assuming you are in a fire fight with 128 sounds going off around you - you aren't going to be worried about not hearing a few sounds (as your ears are going to be bleeding anyway !)

Well thatswhy we have an OverallVolume entry in our configs. Environment and small noises has a 1 in my mod, weapons an 2 or 2.5 (regarding on waht type[big sniper]) and explosions has an 5 to 20, regarding how big they are (Mortar, Arty or FABS) So when an explosions appears, and we are already over 128 sounds, the explosion would overplay all sounds with an lower OV Number like 5 - 20 for example.

Jarhead

PS: to be honest, I'm the last person who would watch after that problem. I like to play with small groups, too many soldiers shooting at a time making the game creepy anyways. A little SOM with 4 men in my team and Im happy. So I only try to keep myself under the bridge because of lots of other players who might be playing with hundreds of AI or so.

I usually have my sound effects down really low, using TS and a G35 headset and the sounds are still loud enough to be immersive, without sacrificing me not hearing my clan mates :)

Yah, I also try to think "This is just a game! Don't make it too loud!" But while playing I'm not even able to hear my bro talking via VOIP ingame and I say "Hey, its realistic, in real combat I wouldn't hear you too while staning in front of the M249 SAW shooting 200 rounds right over my head away and blowing me away with the cracks"! ^^

You know what would be nice LJ, an improvement on the sounds inside of the M1 Abrams, i.e the turret moving, reloading of the breech, hydraulics etc...:)

I only offer this as a data point, so take it for what it's worth...

I don't have any time in an AH-64, but have plenty of time in a -60 while the crewmen are firing several different types of guns (M60, M240, GAU-16 and M107). With the exception of the 107, you can talk over the ICS and hear the radios fairly easily while the weapons are firing. And even with the 107, the concussion is more the issue than the noise.

Keep in mind that the videos you see from inside an aircraft of weapons firing are with a microphone that's more exposed than the actual person's ear (helmet/headphones, earplugs, etc).

Regardless of all that, I eagerly look forward to 1.4.

It wasn't completely up to me. They don't call them "orders" for no reason.

Cant even get your class III stamp while in the mil there? Ick.

Hell, last I checked, our state doesn't even require active duty guys to pay the state fee for the license to carry.

Come on! Can we get back on topic here. A lot of us aren't interested in US gun laws.

Take it to off topic if you want to continue. I just want to hear about how LJH is getting on.

Pay some more respect to peoples work, than maybe your feedback is appreciated and taken into account.

Critizing is fine, just do it in a normal and constructive way.

Thank you.

Ha ha ha^^ I was totally laughing my ass of for the last four posts :D WTF^^

Ha ha, ok. To get on topic now. I reworked the T90, it has a completly new soundface. The old sounds I using for the T72, also with a lot of new parts on it. And also some config rework to let it sounds like an heavy mashine, and not like a wild, broken refrigerator on drugs. Also, the BMP2 has a new soundface, some old parts like on/off sounds are still there. A said, I just want to rework the things I don't like anymore, or not so much. So stuff like the BMP3, 2S6M Tungu or Abrams will not be reworked because they're already good. Well, if I should get my hands on a really good video for the abrams, I like to rework it too, but its nearly impossible, and using stuff and sounds from BFBC2 for the abrams (which sounds lovely in that game) are just totally disrespectful and can hardly prove my abilities^^. Well, YouTube at least is nothing else then just taking sounds from videos, but hey comon...

I reworked all weapons, and I like them, but somehow.... I don't know. Less is more sometimes (german proverb) you know? I just put a part of an echo into it. Well, at least they have to be louder and with a touch more bass. I going to do that today.

At least I would really like to upload a video of the T72 and T90, I guess they sounds good and I will not deny these little babys.

Thanks so far,

Jarhead

PS: Oh and please, I really wanted to rework some of my footsteps, I have a complete new set of them for ProjectZero and I thought of using them, but they sounds like cow shit slaps?? Or, even LOOKS like cow shit slaps?? .... ha ha ha^^ Ah, you guys are bringing me to the grave someday^^ (another german... ah, shit on that^^)

I liked footsteps from 1.2 much more since they've contained the sound of the gear =/

So I use them instead

As said, I guess I will rework them anyways! This is just because we had an interesting change in our Team for ProjectZero and we will start completly new with that project. So all the sounds are free to use of it, and I going to put some of them into JSRS.

I though about putting the explosions from PZero into JSRS: What do you think? Would that be a good idea?

Well, see the vidoe for youself:

Well it would be cool to have the footsteps depending on the weapon you carry. So if you have a MG you hear the ratling of the Ammo belt when running. Not sure if this is possible...

EDIT; Video is awesome!

Hmm, been wondering this for a little while now, but never got around to remembering it while being on the forums the same time.

Which sounds in the mod have you personally recorded or had recorded for this project?

I ask because one day I was out at my backyard range with a few friends tearing up some targets with 2 AR-15's and a WASR. And as we're shooting, 2 A-10's flying from Grissom AFB flew over at less than 1000ft. The only other friend that plays arma there looked at me and I knew we were both thinking the same thing: if only arma sounded this good. :P We've talked a few times about it since, and have thought about doing a bit of recording to see what kind of sounds we could come up with.

It would have to be some check of the primary weapon type.

Optimum would be one time at Mission start and then again if player changes his weapon
