    Nassau 1715

Hey everyone. The release of Nassau 1715 has been pretty successful. If you haven't tried it and please feel free to do so. It's a dramatically different experience for ArmA. We're going to continue to work on this modification, adding more ships, clothing, equipment, weapons and specific locations, but in order to be successful as a total modification we really need help. What we're trying to do is basically a huge modification with a lot of never before seen assets in ArmA 3 and we simply can not do it on our own. We have a small team with only a few salty and experienced 3d artists and scripters and what we have planned is simply too much for us to do within a reasonable amount of time. We really need help in is making 3d assets, such as forts, houses, weapons, objects, cannons, boats and uniforms. We also need a dedicated project coordinator, public relations manager and project manager. If you'd like me to elaborate our needs I would be glad to. We have a road map for the required ships, starting with the sloop. Next we're going to add an English Frigate, the HMS Perspehone, based on the HMS Blandford along with her real life sisters the HMS Greyhound, HMS Phoenix and possible the Scarborough. We're also going to add more variants of the sloop. From there we're going to add a snow/brig (which was also kindly donated by Phillipj) and then a French frigate but we need in order to accomplish this. This is project is very possible. That hard part is over, we got the proof of concept to work in the game except for a melee system. Everything else simply requires additional help. If you're interested we can discuss it here or at the Nassau discord. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you.

@Laqueesha That blouse would have belong to an officer since it has a "branch" rank insignia, right?

In the 90s and going into the early 2000s it was common to see service members wear subdued OD green patches, ranks and nametapes because it may not have been possible to get desert patches, ranks and name tapes sewed on for the whole unit. Everyone in a unit had to be the same and since they already had subdued OD green that was what they generally went with.

I know summer is around the corner but hopefully this will be cool. Today's update adds basic cold weather gear, the M65 field jacket in all current camouflage patterns and two different versions of the US GI wool scarf (the alternative version was kindly donated by Cunico). The M65 field jacket has been the staple of cold weather gear for the US military for half a century. With the jacket and inside liner the M65 jacket can keep you warm even in freezing weather! The M65 uniforms are in 4k. Please let me know what you think of the 4k, if the file size has made a negative impact and any performance related issues. For the facewear gear I've also made NVG versions of them. I have disabled the NVG capability with the NVG version of the facegear. Before anyone expresses strong feelings about this please see below for my reasoning. Patreon plug 😳: My work is not a 3rd party DLC. You don't have to pay for what I hope is triple AAA video game art quality. It's free. But if you really enjoy my work and are able please visit my Patreon page and consider becoming a Patron. Even if it's just for a month or two I would still greatly appreciate it 😃. https://www.patreon.com/deltahawk Reason behind disabling the NVG ability of NVG version of the facewear

I don't really have time to set up the USM mod again. It's just best to focus on my two current projects right now. I'll eventually get the most important parts from USM over to this mod. As for California I'll be honest I was only mostly around the Oceanside area and from time to time I found myself in San Diego and LA for one reason or another. I've also been out to some desert areas that I care not to remember. So out of all of the places I've been to Bridgeport was the most enjoyable for me.

I was at Bridgeport. Beautiful area. Only place in California did I truly enjoy. Thank you for the offer of photos but they're unnecessary now because, big surprise, I've already made a M65 Field Jacket. I chose the M65 because it has a longer life span (70s-mid 2000s) than the ECWS. This will be the only cold weather jacket I'll make for a long time. After an update I'll move onto other equipment.

Are you all shooting blanks? You guys are very meticulous judging by the gear so it kind of make me think you all went through the red tape to shoot blanks. That's the M51 "Fish tail" Parka btw. Learned that recently.

Ok guys and gals, I've decided how to approach the 4k situation. I will be adding a new uniform set (shhh! it's a secret) and I'll make it 4k while leaving the BDUs as 2k. I'll see what happens with the file size. For the performance I want your guy's feeback. If the impact is negligible I'll make the appropriate textures 4k. If a lot of people are being negatively impact I'll look into making an optional HD texture upload.

I've been doing this...sort of. Does anybody have any pictures of US military in cold weather gear or M65 field jackets?

A lot of comments! Thanks for the feedback guys. I really appreciate it. It gives me a much better idea of where to go with the 4ks. I would like to point out a few quick things. There's a huge difference in texture quality...a huge difference. To give you an idea, I would say the current helmets are at 4k resolution (even though it's 2k) My old helmets I would consider to be 2k resolution even though they're 1k. I also want to over engineer the mod, meaning I want it to last for at least a decade and hold their own against future mods or games, much like my USM mod has done since 2014. If I make them amazingly awesome and high quality now, I won't have to redo them...ever, because I probably would have retired from this before I consider redoing them. 4ks still still mipmap correctly to I believe "high" texture quality. I can't say I've notice any performance issues with higher texture sizes other than a couple poorly optimized mods. But Kofeina101does have a good idea. I'll either upload a few test uniforms or upload a set with 4k textures and see how well that works. I can reevaluate the decision to move to complete 4k after that. Maybe I can make three separate steam workshop items, the main one, and one with low res textures and the other with high res textures, or create a new Steam Workshop item that makes then all high res.

How do you all feel about 4K textures? Fair warning, apparently 4k textures causes severe texture quality issues if your texture quality setting is standard or lower. Let me condense my thoughts on this issue, it's 2019, A3 is over 5 years old. Stop using your dad's Commando 64. Buy a new GPU. 4k textures will also include the file size by at least 4x. And I'll tell you now plan on the next update being increased at least 8 times with 4k textures. So yes, DHI Uniforms and Equipment will probably go over 1 gb. Thoughts?

I'd love to but I'm busy with a lot of other stuff. ArmA has always lacked good flight suits 😞 I'll definitely look into doing that! Pm CUP added some good quality old school Aimpoints mostly seen in the early 2000s. Not really, I didn't model them properly years ago so to make unbloused versions would require redoing a lot of work.
  13. So I'm trying to implement water impact sounds for cannonball ammo in Nassau 1715. Should be simple enough, right? Apparently the "hit sound" value is "hitGroundSoft" and not "hitWater", which means in order to include water impact sounds I'll also have water impact sounds on land. I'm not entirely too sure what "hitWater" is for. Has anybody else ran into an issue like this??? Is there a way I need to be structuring my config???

The twill fabric? Some of the BDUs are the twill (though not very good) but I do have plans on making special woodland BDUs with the twill fabric.

You're absolutely right. ArmA is a milsim. People can still enjoy customizing their units though. Typically when people start out making missions they start at the unit's loadout. And for me personally I believe it's that little tiny attention to detail that makes my work enjoyable by a lot of people. One of the greatest compliments I got on my work was I showed a veteran a picture of the BDUs in-game and he noticed the worn fabric over the buttons. That little bit of authenticity invoked memories for him and he was able to connect to my work on a deeper, personal level. An object in a game is not just art, it's a story and a purpose that builds the world that a player is in. It'll obviously be different for everyone based on their imagination, but then you get into the concept of taking an idea that someone has of something and reinventing it. Good example is the fabric textures. I remember in A2 it was normal to see ripstop pattern on everything, including body armor and helmets. When I made the USM mod in A2 a couple people noticed my body armor had a Cordura nylon pattern instead of ripstop. Another example is the movie "Saving Private Ryan". In hindsight we don't think much of it, but when it first came out people had a different idea of what WWII and D-Day was but that movie changed that. (Though that movie is ridiculously inaccurate) Yea, in the grand scheme of everything little stuff like that is just little but I try to make that little stuff have as much of an impact on a player as possible. Eventually, yes. I'll consider it but it should be possible.
