Any good old games?

Recommended Posts

probably going back a little further than you want, but damn how can you beat the proper old skool games? I used to be addicted to the old adventure games and still play them to this day

monkey island

monkey island 2

leisure suit larry 1-4

police quest 1-4

space quest 1-6

kings quest 1-6

conquest of camelot

indiana jones and the fate of atlantis

Innocent until caught

Beneath a steel sky

gold rush

day of the tentacle

maniac mansion

full throttle

the dig

As you can tell theres a lot of old skool sierra and lucas arts games there. But seriously i have every one of those games now some require scumm soft to work others require dos box, and some have been reprogrammed to work with xp/vista/win7 and i tell you what if you where stranded on an island with a laptop and the above games you would be more than happy to play them for years until your rescue. The graphics cant beat todays graphics and some games go ack to like 1987 but damn, they had one thing modern games dont.... complete replayability, and a few weeks of playing to complete (without using guides) Anyhow anyone over 25 will definatly remember or know some of the above titles but you younger folk wont have a clue (im showing my age now) But i highly recommend going to try these out if you havent before

I think the Total War series should all work with onbard GFX.

New and old alike.

Damn! -Forgot the original IL2 Sturmovik from 2001. Guess I don't think of it as an 'old' game, since I still play the ass off it. Great on-line scene, too.

Don't know if 1946 would run on low graphical settings, but your machine will be perfectly happy with Aces or Forgotton Battles.

Panzer General (1994) was one of my favourite strategy games. I'm still playing it today from time to time in case I need a break from BIS games. It' s just like "Risiko" for computer but a bit more complex and you can play all WWII theatres. It's not a 3D shooter, but I find it still amazing.:D

kind regards

Hi snafu

thanks for the link mate. I downloaded it immediately. What a great story. yeah the original PG was still DOS made and therefore it's not running really perfectly on modern PC's. I loved playing through all the campaigns and I must admit I'm still enjoying playing it from time to time.

Thank you so much for posting this link. you made my day.:D

kind regards

Oh, I forgot this one! Does anyone know Gorky 17? Old, but incredibly good turn-based action game with dark and gloomy Stalker-like atmosphere.

Yes, but there are also two more games with "Gorky" :

Gorky Zero Beyond Honor

Gorky Zero Two : Aurora Watching

I recommend Gorky 02 :) Very good climat, music and atmosphere :D

No problem.

I am actually new to Panzer General, I just happened to stumble across PGF through some internet searches one day.

I can see why it is still popular, very addictive and very challenging.

Doom 2 + Skulltag = best old game

It still has people making really cool mods... and people are making more...

My favorite wads are probably

Shotgun Frenzy: (Multi-gamemode mod, where the player(s) try to defned the core from waves of monsters, some RTS-ness involved, as one player is commander and buys upgrades/buildings for other players in some game modes)

Zdoom Wars (Players choose one of the games with the doom engine, and spawn monsters in order to try and kill all other players... Basically a no-base RTS free for all with each faction being a different game.)

Knee Deep in Zdoom (Episode 1 of Doom rebuilt, with Zdoom features, new monsters, guns, and a bit of ACS scripting)

Delta Invasion (One of the best Invasion wads for Skulltag)

Urban Survival (Player(s) + friendly Marines fight hellspawn in a city, player can call for reinforcements every 400 or so seconds... You will need them)

There are a lot more, those are just my top 5...
