I'm a big fan of the DCS series and this addition looks fantastic.

Do you have to pre-order to be able to test the beta? From reading the site it seems you need activation code for it but im not 100% sure im reading it correct.

Yeah, think of it not as a open beta, but more a bonus for those who pre-order the game. If you enjoy combat simulators (i use simulator here because this is by no means a game) then i would say take the plunge. Your no going to get any better than this in terms of what they call a "study sim". If your prepared to put the time in, you will be rewarded.

Couldn't agree more with Shadow D, it's an incredible piece of software, you can't call that a game. I've been away from flight sim for a long time but I think I can say this level of detail has never been seen before. It's just crazy !

You'll need a lot of time and patience. Lock On looks like an arcade game compare to this.

I already have a dozen of paper sheets with note for pre flight check, start up, navigation and landing. And this is just to remember witch switches I have to turn on or off and where they are in the cockpit, all the keybinding is another story. When I'll remember all of those I'll try to use the weapons :D

Oh and if you're wondering which plane will be in the next DCS I found this on ED forums :

Jim Mackonochie (ED dev): Coding has already started on the next aircraft in the DCS series. All I can say is that it will be a USA fixed wing aircraft!

Head over to the official site to pre-order the game now, and gain entry to the existing beta version. We've spent some time with the latest version and it's shaping up to be every simmer's wet dream, even if Kelly McGillis isn't included!

I don't quite get why the next is another US aircraft, why not an opposing force to make a balance in multiplayer or something? I bet it is the F-16, some time ago they showed WIP shots of a high detailed F-16C cockpit...then again they also showed shots of a high detail Mi-24 cockpit too

I think it will be the F/A-18 tbh but I would still rather see the F-14 (or the Tornado, I remember the old Digital Integration Tornado sim and it was brilliant).

The only way i could see it being an F14, is if they are looking at the initial implementation for 2 seat aircraft, as the systems would be significantly less complex than say the F15E or even the Apache.

I think the F18 is a very good bet.

F14 is just a dream tbh. I'd love to see it but I don't see them doing it. Since it's going to be a US aircraft, my money is firmly on the Hornet.

Nah that's okay, I was more hoping for some info on the possible AH-64A at least..ah wells, more motivation I guess.

I was really hoping for a F-15E but people keeps telling me it's too classified.

I don't want to start a debate overthere since that thread is already 200 pages long and I guess they already discussed that many times but...what exactly means too classified ?

Jane's did a pretty accurate sim of this plane about 12 years ago. I know it didn't met the DCS standart but still...Also how the A10 could be somehow less classified ?

The US is the only country to use the warthogs while the F-15E is used by the US, Saudi Arabia , South Korea and Singapore.

ED stated, after developping the A10 simulator for the US national guard, they discussed with them the possibilites of porting it into a game.

That probably means some of the most highly classified stuff have been censored, it was also probably the same with the KA50. Why would it be different with the F15 ?

I would understand if we were talking about the F22 or the F35 but not with the F15.

This plane is so well modelised ingame, the amount of details is astonishing it would be such a waste of time and ressources to do all this just for the AIs.

Why would they add so many details to a plane we would only get to see from far distance, flying faster and high above us ?

Until then, we have Fleet Defender, I guess.

Yes, like many sims back then, we may not have had the best visuals (although I was probably drooling all over the keyboard in awe at the time) but the games were excellent.

The A-10C information was compiled while doing the training software for the US National Guard. They had asked permission to use a good portion of it in the civilan market. Which was agreed to, minus the more sensitive stuff. In practice there is probably very little on the A-10C that is highly sensitive.

The F-15E on the other hand will have complex air search/ground search track radars. Not to mention an array of ECM systems to aid in penetrating enemy air space. This is the kind of information that is highly classified and without it the aircraft would not be an effective platform.

How is the difficulty in flying the A-10 and especially the instrumental flight + combat system in comparison to DCS Black Shark ?

In one word "Digital"...

Basically the entire A-10C runs off three fundamental systems.

1. The HOTAS

2. Sensor Of Interest (SOI)

3. Sensor Point Of Interest (SPI)

Basically by manipulating the HOTAS you can control pretty much everything.

The HOTAS is obviously the control system.

The SOI is what system is currently active on the HOTAS system. So you can set the TGP as SOI, which allows your to use the HOTAS controls to use the TGP. Such as Slew/Designate/Zoom/FLIR...

The SOI could be set to such systems as, TGP/MAV/TAD/HUD.... Each system varying how the HOTAS controls it.

The SPI is a point which your aircraft can slew all of its sensors to that point. The SPI can be many things, you can set the SPI when using your TGP, so if you spot a tank you can then save that point into the system. Any other sensors can now be slewed to that target, this is useful when say you need to get a long range Maverick shot. You can search for your target 15 miles away, once found you can slew the Maverick sensor straight to the tank you have designated with the TGP. This allow you to pick off the SAM/AAA etc. before you go in close.

It may sound a little complex, but it really does become quite natural after a while.
