Many people have though. Maybe not desire in its entirety but some have overcome the "screw over whoever I can to get what I want" part of it. So what prevents the rest? Do they not realize? Do they not care?

Here is some Cherokee lore that I believe cuts to the root albeit thru a simple parable:

An old Grandfather said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend who had done him an injustice, "Let me tell you a story.

I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do.

But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times." He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside me. One is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him, and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way.

But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing.

Sometimes, it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit."

The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather?"

The Grandfather smiled and quietly said, "The one I feed."

That's a nice story. Where did you hear about that at / where did you find it?

Kinda embarrasing as although I am of Cherokee descent, I first heard this in the western movie, "The Missing".

Human life have always been cheap. It is a part of our nature. So, there is no way to stop wars and murders. Untill only one human will stay alive on the Earth and he/she will have nothing to share/argue about with other humans. Earth without wars = Earth without people.

Read till page 5 and want these 10 mins of my life back.

Seriously what a pointless thread... hmm makes me wanna open one myself asking what started this flood of people in the offtopic that love to start threads about why its dark at night or why you get wet when going out when it rains.

It will contain a poll too.

Will this ever stop:

- In a few months

Budhism is only relgion in which there is no place for rivalry between anyone.

I don't see why Ghandi is touted as such a great man. He was passionately racist and a child-molester.

but in fact what tiket wrote - yes, buddism seems to be very peacefull

competition, rivalry is reason for man's greed and wars

in socialist society we were learn philosophy of "cooperation with each other for common society profit"

now in "capitalist" society my "moral codex" is taken as wrong cause "not enough ambitious" "not target aimed" "not hard working to prove boss you're the best" "not enough assertive"

in previouse system (and in east religions) "self confidence" was something bad, it was taken as rude and arrogance

now people who act like arrogants are "follow his example"

thats why i mix "peace and greed" and "economic system" issues

cause i lived in 2 systems and i can compare "values" in systems

behaviour taken as rude 20 years ago, now is "normal"

the same with some east religions in which you must be modest, shy

this is completly different life style philosophy than "be the best in the team"

differences comes from also from what i was taught in childhood , from Bible "it is easier for camel to walk through needle eye, than for rich to get to heaven"

and thats why you completly disagrre with my voices here

even when i look at books "how to get job, interview"

in old books we have "be shy, polite, modest and say what you can do , and what is your expirience"

in west books translated into my language "say you are better than others, say you are best, say you are best"

thats why so many people here from US are angry on my posts

things i was taught in childhood (as "moral values") are so different than your values

and it is reason for wars in world - life philosophy of people

for one "making money and firing ill employee" is normal , in other people's eyes it is wrong cause "this man has family and need job and you can't look at profits, but at his need for job"

in "orange county choppers" or other "pimp my ride" programs in tv i saw how many people were fired cause they late for job because for example were ill

for us (in east) they shouldn't be, cause "everyone can be ill, we are just humans"

and our attitude to "business" is completly different as i see

it is just to clarify differences, how we see the same things - differently

cause you were taught other values in your childhood :)

hahaha its funny as its true :D Come here and lets have a massive international group hug! :p

Whats kinda nuts when you think about wars and stuff is when innocent people die due to a conflict nothing really is thought of it, a lil bit of news on most news channels blah blah blah all gone and forgotten (apart from the poor family of course). Now lets take a natural disaster like a earthquake, people die and you never stop hearing about it, you even get famous people making songs in aid of it. I feel terrible for when people die no matter what, but it seems peoples minds are slightly odd when it makes more of a impact when nature kills us rather then a man made war! Anyone ever thought like that? Or am i the nutty one :D

[i do not say this often, but] There is plenty of truth in Vilas' recent statement..

Due to my age I lived in two systems as well and can only agree that there has been a horrible twist in the 'morality' field during last years...

In the past; being honest and decent was a virtue... Now if you try to be like that you're considered 'sucker' and 'loser'..

Working illegally? Cool... What stops you from going to the labor office and requesting unemployment benefits? There's nothing wrong about it.. Officially your papers are 'clean' and you earn more than a stupid friend of yours who has a full time job and is honest... Heard about two people doin' so yesterday... I only shook my head and made one of those face sad expressions...

Some time ago such people would be considered dickheads and thiefs... Now it's a quality; they're being 'street-wise' and 'clever'...

And all has it roots in twisted 'education'; lack of education, lack of attention from parents working 12hrs a day; making 'careers'; focused on gaining more and more and more and more, thinking of posessions and being 'better' than the guy at tha next desk...

Being kids we were forming groups; as kids do, normal..

We did not want Johnny or Benny in our band because he was rude or stupid..

Nowadays; it's all f***ed up..

My wife works as a teacher and when I hear the stories she brings home I'm speechless... Now you form groups and bands depending on what kind of flatscreen TV your parents have; what car brings you to school each morning; what sneakers you wear; is your outfit more expensive than Johnny's or Benny's... It does not count if Johnny is an arogant bastard; what counts is if he has a cool mobile phone and trendy ringtones...

Now it's ok to be rude; kids tend to say 'shut up' to the teachers.. When parrents hear about this they say: Well, probably she deserved it

It's "you are what you posess' being taught since early childhood...

My wife [teacher] to a kid:

"Ally, put your hat on and come back inside; the time on the playground is up"

Kid: "Screw you; you cannot order me around!"

and later in the same conversation: "My dad is a lawyer in a multinatonial corporation; and my mum has a high position too - are you not affraid what happens when I tell them you treat me like this?"

No further comments..

This can get only 'better'

So don't be shocked why you're surrounded by adult dickheads Vilas; they are being told that's ok to be like that and even that it makes them better than the rest...

No. I didn't know Hitler or Jeffrey Dahmer either.

Don't use any harsh word for him.

I'll use harsh words against whoever I feel like. Especially if those "harsh words" are simple factual statements.
