cjsoques 0 Posted November 23, 2009 yep, it pisses me off that only what, 2 game modes have pary chat? What is the point in party chat if you can't even use it?Bad Company 2 is going to rape this game me thinks. I definitely agree with the second point...I wanna try out the beta so bad. I feel the reason they didn't allow party chat on the 360 was so that you had access to all members on the team to listen/talk to...If you are on a party, you can only talk to those that are in your party. It was just a way to make sure there is team communication. I can see why they did it. But I just have my voice comms muted out anyways due to the prepubescent young ones spouting profanity and racial and ethnic slurs that kinda ruins the game for me...went a few rounds before I had to just turn off voice comms alltogether when not in a party. CW001 10 Posted November 24, 2009 Wiki sezs: Despite the efforts of the Marines and the SAS, the Ultranationalists seize control of Russia and declare Zakhaev a hero and martyr. And yeah, I thought it was made pretty clear at the start of the game. With the unveiling of the statue and what not. Dangit, I should've paid more attention to the plot. da12thMonkey 1943 Posted November 24, 2009 Bought MW2 for £22 for my 360 yesterday; completed it today. I'm glad I only payed half-price. The only thing I really liked was the graphics. Some of the lighting, models and textures are pretty stunning to look at, so respect to IW's art team. It's a shame the gameplay design team then went and took a big dump on their work by making the pacing absolutely horrid so you miss 90% of the detail and fail to react to a lot of the 'cool' set-pieces. Some of the Ranger levels are okay but the UKSF ones are almost entirely crap; especially the ones with an inordinate amount of enemies boxed into a 25m play-pen. The only lasting impression that the game's made on me is my burning desire to punch anyone I catch saying "Oscar Mike", square in the throat.
Zipper5 74 Posted November 24, 2009 The only lasting impression that the game's made on me is my burning desire to punch anyone I catch saying "Oscar Mike", square in the throat. Ah yes, the infamous Oscar-Mike-syndrome. That "other game" gave it to me. I found the pacing pretty damn good. In fact, you're the first person I've heard say that they don't like the pacing. But true, I much preferred the Ranger levels to the Task Force 141 ones. But that's largely because of where the Rangers actually end up fighting. However, I did like the reunion towards the end. Lots of connections to COD4 thrown in by IW.
Deadfast 43 Posted November 24, 2009 Ah yes, the infamous Oscar-Mike-syndrome. That "other game" gave it to me. When I was playing PR the other day I almost ripped my squad leader's head off for using "solid copy" + this :D
GoOB 0 Posted November 24, 2009 The abuse of the term foot-mobile is even worse - It was used everywhere and all the bloody time.
Clavicula_nox4817 0 Posted November 24, 2009 The abuse of the term foot-mobile is even worse - It was used everywhere and all the bloody time. The abuse of every term. I never heard the term "Oscar Mike" until I read Generation Kill. The Army says "Charlie Mike", and nobody says it all the time. Probably beceause anyone who walks around saying "Hey guys, let's Charlie Mike!" sounds like an idiot. I never heard anyone say "Foot-mobile" it was always "Hey, Mujmotherfucker over there!" "Mahdi Army to the left!" etc. The General is wearing the JFKSWC patch, which is the patch for the SF School. Lame. 1st Ranger battalion is wearing some made up insignia, and for some reason, they're randomly in Virginia. The SAS/TF 141 guys are wearing 3rd ID patches on their helmets. Why? The game is fun, but the difficulty is either Super Easy or Cheating Aim bots. Storyline...uh..it's pretty bad.
MehMan 0 Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) The game is fun, but the difficulty is either Super Easy or Cheating Aim bots. Storyline...uh..it's pretty bad. Pretty much sums it up. I hate the difficulty that switches mid game. Even on super easy they throw you into situations where you have to fight off 1000 shooting russians at once. And it would seem that the the higher the difficulty level, the more shots you need to take down somebody, coming to a point where the AI kills you with less shots than you can kill the AI. The storyline just looks as if they bought a boxset with Red Dawn, Generation Kill and a few Tom Clancy films and watched it all back to back to back until they came up with that story. On a sidenote, as always, MW2 was awsome on the music front. I reckon it's because Hans Zimmer did the work. Edited November 25, 2009 by MehMan
da12thMonkey 1943 Posted November 25, 2009 I never heard the term "Oscar Mike" until I read Generation Kill. Generation Kill (the TV series at least) is entirely to blame for IW choosing to have the phrase uttered ever five minutes. The mission with the HMMWVs made it very clear that they intended to molest every single reference that they could out of GK; for starters you just have too look at the paint schemes and numbering on the vehicles. However, in the context of the show it's uttered when the Coy. is moving several kilometers after holding a position for hours if not days: not mid-battle when a fire-team is merely advancing a few meters, breaking contact, or bounding to another strong-point like it is used in MW2. Like you said, it just makes the character sound like an utter twat. Agreed with MehMan on the music front
Aeneas2020 10 Posted November 25, 2009 geeze you guys think mw2 is bad try playing through OFP:DR (i know there is another topic for this but you guys are talking about lingo in this). Seriously play through the sp. at the start of every mission your character will say "oscar mike!" back to whoever the hell gives him his briefing about 15 bloody times. Honestly there is one mission, the point where i stopped playing, where he used it 5 times in one sentence! That doesn't even make sense. After that Mw2 seemed like a veritable dictionary on how to properly use military terminology...although a dictionary written by 5 year olds, intended for use by gibbons and then spat on by IW's rabid fan base. sparks50 0 Posted November 25, 2009 DR rapes the How copy? Solid copy popularized by GK too. The result is borderline funny. I think game designers could learn a lot by actually listening to veterans, or, heck, even just spend some time on Youtube.
Whiskey_Tango 10 Posted November 25, 2009 they jack alot of dialogue off of war vids....anyone notice the "i want you to pull that trigger until they dont get up" part in the blackhawk, it was ripped off of an apache gun cam vid with a few muj stuck out on a roof
mr_centipede 31 Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) Everybody want to be in the army(military, we dont have marines here), want to speak stuff that no one else understand yet cringe at the thought of basic training. sad really. but I guess that's off topic. Never had a change to play CoD4. but played the first.. It was fun and intense. I was quietly hoped that someday COD would turn into a squad base shooter, more or less like BiA... but I guess I got ARMA series for that eh? Havent got Hells Highway though(BiA) With CoD series direction, I think we can skip the squad base shooter... if the storyline is as bad as you guys claim... I think I'll skip it. Half-life story I think quite nice... very immersive. but steam put me off... now I'm getting really off-topic.. so better sign off. smeg head 10 Posted November 25, 2009 MW2 is like "army porn" - glorifying the army so much that at times it is just plain sickening We can't say soldier - we have to say "foot mobile" We can say Mig - we have to say "fast mover" Solid copy oscar mike - Rar rar raar - we get it, you are really cool for using those words. Not to mention that every single unit in the game is so well equipped that they even have ACOG sights for their ballpoint pens. The game just hypes up war so much in order to make it look "cool" - something Operation Flashpoint never tried to do... Don't get me wrong it was a really fun game - it was just brought down a bit by being so 'try-hard'.
maddogx 13 Posted November 25, 2009 "army porn" I think that sums up COD MW2 quite nicely. :)
MehMan 0 Posted November 25, 2009 This who CoD:MW2 is made for: He's the one who wants to hear oscar mike and footmobiles over and over again.

Anyone remember the scene from GK about the Charm sweets and how they shouldn't be brought into a HMMWV? nodunit 397 Posted November 27, 2009 I rather liked the game, infact I enjoyed it and its story very much, sure it's not realistic but I think people are looking for 'real' in far too many places these days and if you were thinking of looking for that in a recent COD game then you're obviously looking in the wrong place. As far as I know the game never lended itself to be a 'real war' kind of thing. I liked it because it was like playing out a movie, the music by Hans Zimmer really lended to this, as usual he knew how to capture the moment, controls were fluid as was character animation. The only annoying thing about it to me was the over use of oscar mike and footmobile, seriously who the hell calls infantry footmobiles, otherwise I enjoyed the ride and plot twists and hope they make the next one like a movie as well (less overused terms though) If I want real I have OFP,Arma1 and to be gotten Arma2, and as focused as people are with the real these days it is nice to see something that is just 'out there'. Nazul 10 Posted November 27, 2009 I liked it because it was like playing out a movie, the music by Hans Zimmer really lended to this, as usual he knew how to capture the moment, '. Im the opposite, i really dislike Hans Zimmers soundtracks, they are all the same and remind me of such stale blockbusters like Pirates of Caribbean. I always notice his soundtracks, now to me that makes a bad soundtrack, they should be unnoticeable in the background. Maybe he is just overused and it all sounds the same.
