Orange-yellow bushes are complete fps killers

Recommended Posts

In Arma 2 my fps is a nice and smooth 25-30 fps but whenever I go near one of those killer orange-yellow bushes my fps drops down to the single digits. One reason why is that there is just too much foilage in it and i mean a HUGE amount. Being a sniper sucks when you have terrible FPS when zoomed into a bush or tree. Oh yeah and also the orange-yellow trees REALLY lag too. Can't you just reduce the amount of foilage in the orange-yellow bushes and trees so it doesnt lag?

Try turning down your Object Detail setting, I noticed it makes grass less dense, don't know about bushes and trees though.

I have run into this problem as well. When zooming in on these trees/bushes with a scope my fps crawls. As soon as I look somewhere else it jumps back up. So far the object detail doesn't seem to affect it; will do some more testing.

Yup, red trees are just hiding out there in the wilderness with knives ready for juicy FPSs to walk by :D

Some of the leaf trees and bushes are total FPS killers for sure. Hopefully BIS optimize them as they did in ArmA1. At the beginning i couldnt scope into forests - killed my pc completly. After some patches i could scope forests without much drop at all.

Were hoping.

The problem with BI is that they did everything in house, which means it wasn't solidly tested, or this wouldn't have happened.

Next time use Speedtree.

I am not a specialist at creating a game-engine, but I was wondering if BIS is using somekind of "fast-tree-rendering"?

And I also have an opinion to give. Why do not make the grass in not so dense areas half as high as it is right now, so you have a better view while being prone?

They use "LINDA" if you never saw this? Posted many times in this forum. Its a program they created themselves. Very advanced and complex.

Link: LINDA

Speedtrees... LOL!

Seems that BIS have quite a few revenue streams...100 Euro an hour PER operator !...With VBS and ARMA2...wonder what their turnover is..

I have to agree, especially red trees, seems to be an FPS killer even on normal textures, medium terrain detail.

Its odd because if you spin and there are 10 percent of red trees around in the distance I always get a judder at the moment they are on screen as im spinning past.

Didnt notice a huge difference in frames on my system but i cna safely say that the brownish bushes and trees always seem to me like their lods would go to lot lower detail much faster than the green ones

Foliage performance is ok for me, but the way they change LODs so close to you looks really bad. It ruins the atmosphere big time.

I have no problems with bushes or trees but i also have a nice computer. Only time i have experienced "screen lag" was in the huge city "Chernogorsk" but after toning down video settings a bit all was ok.

I can confirm problems with these bushes... its not a total killer but yes it does take 1/3 or even sometimes 1/2 the fps away (when scoped) which is very annoying.

For example your running in the open and head for cover... suddenly fps drops to half.. which is like 18 for me and I cant aim properly! Something needs to be optimised in this "linda" technique!

I was playing EVO yesterday and I came across these orange trees and totally killed my FPS, there was a few ppl on the server that noticed the same thing. I had to turn my object detail down to lowest and it was just playable.

Get PROPER mods Vegetation mod. Where it removes the resolution LOD from all vegetation. Generally fixes this problem. At least, it fixed mine.

Can't someone simply make a "replacement addon" that replaces all yellow/orange/ugly trees and bushes with green ones?

Even with Kju's Proper Low Vegetation mod Red/orange trees kill my preformance! Argh BIS kill the trees, we got enough of them on Utes and Chernarus. :dancehead:

Yeah in the "patch 1.05 suggestions" thread I asked if they could optimize the vegetation. Hopefully they can. Maybe if more people make an issue of it they'll do something.
