Ok I think I will go for the GTX 570 Im not ready to take any risks for the future.

An overclocked 570 can almost reach the performance of GTX 580 .

Thank you all for answering my question .:)

If you want to keep your guarantee, dont overclock it yourself, just buy an already overclocked one.

Point of View Ultracharged, for example.

DON'T OVERCLOCK / OVERVOLT YOUR SHINY NEW GPU!

Nvidia statement:

In the web release driver of GeForce GTX 590, we have added some important enhancements to our overcurrent protection for overclocking. ... Please note that overcurrent protection does not eliminate the risks of overclocking, and hardware damage is possible, particularly when overvoltaging. We recommend anyone using the GTX 590 board with the reference aircooler stick with the default voltage while overclocking, ... waterblocks for GTX 590... will help provide additional margin for overclocking, but even in this case we recommend enthusiasts stay within 12.5-25mV of the default voltage in order to minimize risk.

Hi All

Help :(

I have problem with the blur effect of trees and shrubs after the transition from version 1.57 to 1.59.

At the same graphics settings in ARMA2 OA (AA=NORMAL) when I upgrade to version 1.59 appears to blur the contours of trees and shrubs (dark clouds around tree)

- after returning to the 1.57 version of the image is displayed correctly.

Is this a problem with my GTX580? (I tested drivers ver. 270.51 ad 266.58)

Ambient Occlusion - set OFF

My system: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

Open your Arma2OA.cfg and change this line : AToC=7; to AToC=0

Tell me again why BIS thought it was a good idea to have this enabled by default?

Thanks for your reply.

Many hours spent on testing the NVIDIA settings and here a little something in the CFG.

Thanks again

I just bought a new GPU (Palit GTX 560Ti 2GB) to add to my (somewhat) new system, and the game runs pretty smooth and fast, avg. ~35-40FPS. However, setting anti-aliasing to Low (2x) brings my system to a crawl. I loose ~25-35% FPS when enabled, and grass is the absolute worse, dropping my FPS by over half when zoomed in or looking thru a scope at it.

Basically my question is: Does everyone see these kinds of FPS drops, even with newer cards when AA is even set to Low? Is it strictly Nvidia related?

I'm running CO, using the latest 1.59 official and 79600 beta, and Forceware 267.26 (will try using the 270's just released and see if that works).

Thanks for any info...I'd really like to know if this is an Arma2 problem or driver issue.

---------- Post added at 07:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:49 PM ----------

Just a quick update...I installed the 270.51 betas and saw a very nice increase; even with AA enabled; but it's still dropping when looking at grass. I'm going to mess around with AOTC settings to see if I can get better performance around grass.

-Ziggy-;1889362']do this' date=' and try using low or normal AA and report back with any difference.[/quote']

Already did, and performance was still very poor with AA set to low and AOTC off...

However, Nvidia's latest 270.xx drivers have fixed the problem. I can run normal AA with acceptable FPS now; and with AOTC turned off on the grass then it's like butter. I can also run higher 3D Resolutions w/o as serious of impact as before.

I'd recommend DL'ing these if you're having problems with performance and Nvidia...they definitely are better optimized then the 267.xx forceware that I was using before

For me, using AA in this game with AToC on my GTX560Ti means I have to dial down AA from 7 or whatever it was to Very High or else it looks like there is white snow on the trees and the ground. Once I hit V High setting, it looks nice and normal.

i just benchmarked Arma20a v1.59 at various settings with both Nvidia gfx driver 266.58 and 270.51 and found no difference for my system between the two drivers. :bored:

surprisingly, 1 (one) fps difference between AToC 7 and 0 :j:

I am unable to open my cfg file in order to change the AToC settings. When I try, I get one of those messages asking if Windows (7 64 bit) should search the web. Could anyone tell me what program I need to open cfg? Many thanks

If you don't use AntiAliasing ingame you should be fine.

If you use AA ingame:

right click on file > open with > select notepad > click ok > adjust ATOC settings in cfg file > click save

Thanks guys. edit - just tried and I don't get the "open with" option on the cfg. It does appear for other file types so must be peculiar to cfg. Any ideas?

Not surprising, as there are no fixes or enhancements for 200 series cards in 270.51. :(

please try different setting for -exThreads= startup option

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma2:_Startup_Parameters#exThreads

Dwarden,

Are the default (autodetection) exThreads startup options ok for Core i7 940 (8 core)? Under what conditions should we not use the default settings?

I have to reinstall ArmA2 and OA recently since I installed an SSD (and put ArmA2 into it :p ). I applied the latest patch 1.59 and... wonders! Now I can play for 10-15 minutes, then my screen goes black. The game doesn't crash, I can hear myself walking or shooting as usual, the action doesn't stop at all, but I cannot see anything, all is black. Exiting to windows with CTRL-ALT-CANC or ALT-TAB and reentering game doesn't help.

I never had this problem since now!!!

My Nvidia drivers are version 258.96.

Can anyone help me?

Definitely worth trying giving your problem. There should be no bad affects from the latest driver. The one your using is quite a few versions behind.
