The greatest ARMA 2 experience I have ever had.

Hi All

In reply to Alx. You are an MG gunner in that one, you need to be on a Flank. Pick one and do your job.

Thanks for your advice Walker. I do indeed try to play to my position. In fact, I twice tried to cover the squad from the high ground to the right, near the lighthouse. However, the enemy from way over the other side of the village, by the UAZ, are able to gun me down even when I'm crouching down behind a stone wall. It seems to be the same old thing. Even on "Regular" the AI are increadibly accurate and perceptive.

If you run up the road to where the Jeep is under a tent you can find a bunch of rocket launchers in the gear box there. Use it against the APC, but be ready for the crew to bail out and immediately attack you. They're still easier than the APC itself though.

id say the greatest experience:confused: ive had so far would be from a few nights ago. i was playing on kellys heroes (great server) with about 35 or so other players. everyone worked together and properly. it was nighttime and i was a SL. everyone stayed in comm with one another. the entire team broke up into 3 groups positioned around krasno then we waited and decided when to raid it , it worked perfectly. we lit them up, but then tanks rolled in and we got smoked. no worries we eventually took em out and the helos came in to extract us to the next target. i would say nighttime fighting is so much better then daytime, makes it seem is more realistic.

The AI also seem to take different routes every time when the village is cleared.

This is what I look forward to.

The mission not being the same scenario as the previous played.

I also had a rather good experience yesterday evening in the first Charlie Foxtrot test scrim. I was moving with a squadmate through a large forest area in contested territory until we reached a clearing, where we knew an enemy M1 Abrams had been destroyed. A friendly Mi17 was flying overhead, trying to spot enemy movement for us, so we waited there and had a look around when we suddenly took gunfire from the side.

Fortunately for me, I was concealed behind a couple of bushes, so I don't think they saw me. While my mate ran for cover, I managed to sneak up very close to the two guys and take them out while they were repositioning. Shortly afterward, our scout helo reported that he was taking machine gun fire from a guy on the clearing. Taking care to keep the tank wreck between us, I followed the gunshot sounds to his position and took him out while he was distracted. :D

With the area clear, the Mi17 landed in the clearing to pick us up, and it wasn't long until we heard reports of an enemy Huey flying toward our position from the north. A fantastic aerial battle ensued, with us firing our side mounted MGs at the Huey while our pilot maneuvered rather expertly to keep us above and behind them. I didn't actually see the Huey go down as I was on the wrong side at the time, but our pilot reported multiple parachutes descending to the edge of a small forest. I managed to take out one guy legging it for the forest before the rest of them disappeared and we started taking fire.

Our pilot thought it was best to drop us off on the other side of the forest to see if we could catch them on foot. During landing however, the chopper apparently took some damage and the motor died. Moving into the forest through enemy suppressing fire, it was very difficult to see the enemy, though I knew they were close, so I had the brilliant idea of throwing a grenade, seeing that I had four. I guess that reminded everyone else about them because soon the forest was filled with explosions, after which it was very quiet :D.

Only one enemy survived this and he was picked off easily by our pilot.

Good times.

Hi all

In reply to Alx: It has been said often do not stay in one position. Do not allow your self to be suppressed and fixed. Once they do that the AI same as any good MP team or real life trained soldiers is looking to flank your position.

Be a fish in the shoal

As with real players, the gun that is killing lots of you becomes a priority target. Kill a lot of AI and the AI is going to make killing you their mission in life. A trick is to kill a few then move and ID targets with right click so that others in your team draw heat for a while. Keep the AI guessing. It is the same principle as a shoal of fish give the predator lots of targets and it makes it harder to lock on one.

Remember your a flanker

Take out one maybe two then move, even if it is just to roll a few metres to the side. Keep switching positions. Remember your a flanker! So either continually move to negate the enemy outflanking or set your self up in a position to refuse that flank. Watch your flanks! At every lull or when reloading a quick head turn to scan for enemy moving on your open flank is very important.

Clear Fields of Fire and Real Cover

Look to get areas of clear fields of fire, open fields and the like. Beware of potential cover and concealment on your flank such as field boundaries, hedges walls and the like; buildings etc. If the AI get to it they will use it. You need real cover. Look for ridges you can back over if suppressed or solid buildings. Then once out of the suppressing firing line switch your firing position to somewhere else on the ridge or the oposite side of the building. Wooden fences, wooden sheds or buildings, trees less than 2 feet thick and bushes are not and never will be cover, no matter how much you cower behind them praying they were; they are concealment. The concealment of a building is a two edged sword, it also conceals those who seek to flank you too. Again watch your Flanks! Po round the other corner of the building to check your back, but be cautious, there is nothing worse than poping round the corner to see an AK two feet from you guts, a crouched lean or crawl and roll out can help.

Mind the gap!

Be Aware of your position in the line. Mind the gap! if you are the flanker then in theory one of your flanks is secured by the rest of your team but if you make the gap between you and your buddies too wide the AI will exploit it just the same as humans will. They will then look to double envelope you and cut you off from your support and defeat your team piecemeal by isolating and surrounding you. You have to be able to cover the gap but remember right click as your team can deal with people in the gap too.

Kind Regards walker

Agreed with the OP. I have run this scenario 10+ times and it's VERY different every single time. Even the APC takes different routes and tries different tactics. It keeps you on your toes, and honestly puts most actual human players to shame at times. Including myself :o

Sniping from an upper catwalk in a tin building while my clan mate was covering the building from outside. All while having a chopper crash and almost kill my clan mate, shortly thereafter I found out that the chopper crashed into the building I was in, half of the tin roof was completely gone, exposing the catwalk that was behind me. Talk about he almost dieing, we both almost died thanks to a crashing chopper.

I was on the first scenario mission - Trial by Fire.

The squad I was in made its way quickly from the beach and approached the village, all looked calm, there wasn't an enemy in sight, my anxiety grew as I knew that there were enemies around me, but I couldn't see them. My squad leader, who had already shown himself to be an action kinda guy quickly ran ahead and disappeard behind a wall. The next few seconds were filled with chaos as shouts on the radio were heard along the lines of, 'Oh no 6 is down!'

I knew that it was the squad leader, I started to panic as 2 more of my squad were shot up by a hidden enemy.

The only squad member who had stuck with me was suddenly hit repeatedly after I tried find the insurgents, I dragged him into a destroyed church, at this time the fire had really intensified and someone from the squad had called in air support, 'too late' I thought. I began administering first aid to my downed friend, who I had dragged into this holy place, a fitting contrast to the horror outside it I thought. After several attempts to heal my friend, I noticed he had stopped squirming, I took a look at his face and could see the stillness in him, I left him and rejoined the fighting, by this time a Cobra was flying low overhead, blowing up an armoured car and causing the insurgents to flee, I looked at the chaos around me and realised that this was only the beginning.

ps: One thing that bugged me, who sends one squad to take an entire island? I mean come on, it leads to the sort of thing I just wrote.

Is this coop campaign? if a teammate dies in the campaign you have to restart  wheneer my teamleader runs off like a madman there is no way of stopping him and i repeatedly fail the mission. (in patch 1.01, i'll retry it with patch 1.02 sometime.)

This is however my first and only gamebreaking bug i've had from ARMA2 since i got it :) and i love it. I remember in ARMA1 i could kill tonnes of AI in evolution online without dying, In ARMA2 (patch1.02 evo. online) i actually feel like i'm playing real players because i have to outmanouvre them and even so i have to be careful; the fact i have to be so careful adds so much immersion imo. I also love it how the surpress you where they last saw you, i normally use this opportunity to flank them or retreat.

No its a scenario mission, hence why my squaddies could die and I could carry on.

Well my experience I enjoyed was finally getting EAX and 3D panning working with my Xfi, and loading up VOP2. I set up a small team to attack a village with a small amount of enemy, also using the high command feature (so sweet and fast to get up and running!).

Slowly making my way, splitting my team up, using slow and specific flanking tactics on a simple village with only a few small teams was a real joy, the sound of fire as things broke out, dragging a fallen man to a near hut while bullets hit around me was great.

I liked the responses when I set 3 men to target (while hold fire was on) 3 enemy targets, they got into place well prone "Have eyes on target" etc ... realy like the calls in those situations from your team.

Also moved the setup to a large wooded area also, in the rain and bad weather ... wow, immersion x 10

I had an amazing experience the other day! It was a custom mission i made on Everon. Three squads were to move into Montignac from the south, each squad covering it's own sector of the village. In this case, the left side, the middle, and the right side.

We also had two Cobra's looking after us from the sky, as it was believed some armor would still be present in the village. As we moved in, all we could hear was hellfires zipping past our heads, closely followed by a bang, a ping, and lots of thick, black smoke coming up from the ground ahead of us. One T72 less!

We had now started moving into the village, most of the armor was gone so it was mainly soft targets for us to hit. A group of insurgents attempted to flank us, but thanks to the designated marksman and machine gunner, they didn't last long, and not a single loss to us.

But then things got ugly. A BMP-2 had escaped the Cobra's somehow, and as we were moving further into Montignac, he flew around a corner and pounded the crap out of us! My AT gunner tried his hardest to destroy the BMP-2, but it was too late, he got hit several times and wen't down.

I ordered my squad to get behind a building, and then I threw out some smoke for concealment. Once behind the building, i came up with a pretty cool plan. I would send my squad to the flanks of the BMP-2, and get them to fire a few rounds at it from cover.

Whilst the did this, i would grab the dead AT launchers SMAW, and blow the f*cker to hell! It seem'd like an awesome, plan, so i decided to do it. My squad was just in position, i was ready to tell them to open fire and make my run, my heart was pumping, when all of a sudden...

One of the cobra's decides to show up and blow it up for me. Good job matey, if only you came 2 minutes earlier!!!

Awesome moment nonetheless!

I had a pretty sweet Warfare expierience yesterday against 2 enemy players. I was in a T72 rolling through this field, and there were 2 M1a2 Tusk rolling right at us, both player controlled. MY AI in the gun turret locked on to the first tusk and fired 2 shots, at this point the tanks were about 10-12 meters apart, so yea we were going head to head for about 30 seconds. at the end both Tusk were destroyed and so was my T72, but it was pretty bad ass.

At 0900 Sunday morning, November 15, 2009 I quietly led 3/7 Kilo Company 3rd Platoon USMC into the stinking ruined maze of Avgani. My nightmare had begun.

No amount of training could prepare me for the hell of urban combat. The insurgent stronghold was a labyrinth of alleys and side streets infested by heavily armed groups of extremist fighters.

RPG gunners wait in ambush on street corner's, teams of snipers lurked on rooftops, machine gunners overlooked every road and street and riflemen patrolled inside houses and buildings (Random House Patrol v1.1 script). They were everywhere.

1st squad had only ventured 20 metres inside the cities outskirts when I heard the sudden crack of insurgent rounds firing overhead.

Men scrambled in terror behind the cover of a platoon of supporting abrams tanks as I lobbed a smoke grenade and ordered 2nd squad to take position behind the cover of a nearby wall. Our first casualties were reported.

The violent explosion of an RPG round boomed off the side of our lead tank, covering 3rd squad in a shower of sparks and flame, 2nd squad was soon engaged in a heated firefight and the tanks joined in. The noise was deafening. I helped 3rd squad treat the most critical casualties then ordered them to join 1st squad. I ordered a fireteam from first squad to help me clear rooms in a nearby house before I made my way to the rooftop to secure an overwatch position.

As machine gun fire echoed through the city more and more friendly casualties were reported. I panicked, turned around and headed back toward the stairwell when a salvo of incoming bullets threw up chunks of concrete all around me. I crawled the remaining distance to the stairwell and then quickly ran downstairs, but as soon as I left the doorway I was met by a hail of bullets.

I ran back inside and peered out of a window scanning houses and rooftops across the street, trying to locate the hidden gunmen. More friendly casualties were reported. I desperately needed to get back to the tanks, it sounded like all hell had broken loose. But it was too late, an insurgent bullet to the face brought my mission to a quick end.

i have been running in the second mission on the demo (death valey), my poor medic is run ragged. i hate it when i lose a member. i have lost 6 so far. at first i was solo but i realised its better to have a team.

'OH SHIT 4 IS DOWN!' noooooo! the feeling is like a hammer in the chest.

deffinately the best game (demo) i ever played!

i just can't figure out how to rearm them, i have the trucks but they do nothing. i can send medic to an injury but not a truck to an out of ammo combatant

Is there ANY other game that you have people spontaneously doing AAR's? Much less a reason to do such a thing? This is great and getting better.

I was playing around with Mando Missile, in particular the CCIP, as there never has been one in a BIS title. I was in an A-10, covered by 2 F-16's in CAP configuration, supporting a mixed column of Armor, Mech inf, and 2 trucks of regulars heading north in Saharani (Surprising how small it seems now with Chernarus and infinite terrain). There were defended positions to the north of the isthmus, which I easily took out. This got the attention of 3 SU's that chased me back south. While I was chucking flares and diving into the valleys and ravines heading toward my ill positioned CAP, they came screaming past firing away, taking 2 SU's down immediately and keeping the third quite busy. I reminded myself I was shirking my duties and flew back north over Pariso and the mountain to see my column spreading out and under fire from mech infantry in the town. I saw a few concentrated locations, pulled up the CCIP and demolished with (almost) pinpoint precision.

Never had that feeling before, I could bomb right next to a bridge without much fear of hitting it. Strange feeling of increased AI, lethality and survivability features coming into Arma. Both from the betas and addons/mods.

Today, so far. Domination at Tactical Gamer. Extremely organized with good leadership. Some problems with VoN, but at least VoN was used so everyone had easy access. Probably my lowest score in Domination ever, and probably ended up on the last place on the scoreboard. Didn't get a single combat kill against me. Yet still it was the best game.

Went on to play regular missions, and I think some of them were kind of hard core (no respawn). Some had horrible night conditions which I personally hate. As I set 3D resolution to 50% for NVG missions, it didn't help ;) The enemies could see everything (apparently), we could see nothing. But in general good missions, all of that was played with leadership. Awesome.

Best Arma2 experience? Domination mission tonight.

Best Arma2 night? You guessed it - tonight :)

Played a mission in editor last night. Just a random patrol with a USMC squad agains a zillion of insurgents. Put myself on center of Chernarus, put in placement radius of 7000, same for the insurgents, copy paste. Then hit preview. First thought.... where the hell am I, so I do some resection/intersection finding a city or whatever to get my bearings. When I already got my bearing, I thought why did I go through that trouble when there is a GPS? still it was quite an accomplishment getting my bearing the 'right way'

So then I wandered around chernarus, hoping to find some insurgents. but didnt found any. hitch a civillian truck (got tired pressing 'W' key) and let the AI drive. With 60141, I'm impress. They dont hit buildings, and was quite a good driver. get me to where I wanted, and in one piece. But still no enemies... then I tried to go to pass oreshka, north of staroye... (at this point about an hour have pass) not fearing any for any contacts so I cheerfully press the acceleration time... to max. and hope for the best. and expecting the best... bad mistake though, just when I about to reach staroye, enemy was sighted. in panic mode, I press the acceleration time to normal, 'all stop', 'all danger', 'all disembark' and I disembark myself. kill some of the insurgents then got killed myself....

Lesson learned... never 'sleep' on patrol :D

Sidenote: seems the UPS script that I used didnt work as I hoped, the marker area was 8000x7000 to cover the whole south zagoria landmass. But the AI seems to take a long time to calculate the WP for the AIs. Still fun mission. Give the meaning of 99% boredom and 1% sheer terror and excitement

Find yourself a team to play with mate. Only problem, you are too use to the editor and SP, once you WANT to play MP, and you want YOUR mission, learn how to BI script bud. Its a bitch! if you have NFI (No Fu**ing Idea). But u know what, when that mission works, Damm its worth it!

I was putting together a SP mission in the editor and by that time the game was patched 1.02. The AI was very lethal and unforgiving. I had set up an assault on Lopatino and I was closing on the town when contact was made. The advance came to halt and the enemy AI was putting some heavy fire on us. When I was detected and the enemy AI directed the fire towards me I found cover behind a small wall in the middle of the field. I could hear constantly bullets hitting my cover and everytime I tried to take a look over that wall I was immediately welcomed by a hail of fire. The enemy AI was zeroed on my position and kept hitting the wall constantly. When I got up to a kneeling position just to take a look, it took them 3 seconds to kick my butt and kill me. So I had to get up for 2-3 seconds to take a look to get an idea of the situation and drop back on the ground immediately. I always changed my position slightly to the left or to the right but I couldn't move very much. Everytime I tried to crawl away from the position I got my ass handed over. The enemy AI kept me pinned down and I was nearly unable move. At that time an enemy T-72 rolled in to reinforce the enemy and things got even worse. Everytime I tried to have a look over the wall bullets were zinging all around and I filled my pants several times. LOL. Then I saw that the enemy AI had wiped out our left flank and were starting with a flanking move on their own and I thought "shit I gotta get out of here . . . now". It was imposible to stand up and run because the T-72 had a perfect shot and was unforgiving. I tried twice to go for a run to get the hell out of Dodge . . . zigg zagging and running for my virtual life but they killed me everytime. So retreating and go for a run was not an option. I managed after several attempts to crawl backwards and disengage. When I finally managed to leave my position and retreat to safety, I thought by myself " Wow that was really intense . . . what an awesome game. "

I personally had countless amazing situations in ArmA II and I love this game.

Regards

Post your best moment you have ever had in Multiplayer or Singleplayer (Campaign or editor).

I am talking moments that make you think "wow, all this happened in a game". You know, moments that make you get lost in the game or be thankful for ArmA 2.

Not the moments like "I snipezored 4 guys in 2.3 seconds then ripped up 40 T-72's with mah A-10"

You guys know what I mean.

Mine would be when I was playing a Mission Called 'Cipher' (User created) and the objective was to catch a Russian general. We where on our way to his location (Me and 9 other AI Squad) on foot, and we cam across this small town. We found 3 cars and started a convoy with me in the front. I started Driving and the cars behind me followed

All of a sudden I hear "Enemy Chopper, to our Front, far" and I nearly poop myself, since we had no AA weapons. I turn of my headlights and engine and so do the other 2 cars. We wait there for a few minutes, and the heli is gone.

I start to drive forward, and the sound of my engine drowned out the Choppers's noise, as he came back and fired on our convoy. He instantly destroyed the middle car and halted the back car the 2 guys that survived in the back car cam running up to my car to get in with me and the other fellow, as soon as they get in I take off doging hellfire missiles in my tiny little crappy car, I made it a long way when the car stopped from damage. As I sprinted out a missile comes down and destroyes the car, my 3 remaining squadmates and injures me.

As I am running through the forest, no nightvision and just hearing the deafening sound of the choppers rotors, I look back on the smoldering car and dead bodies. I almost forgot I was in a game as I sprinted furiously to escape the choppers headlights.

I ended up firing a RPG7 at the General later on to avenge my fallen Squadmates, and passed the mission after an hour and 45 minutes.

Now post yours. :)
