ArmA2 1.03 Impressions - ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here

Recommended Posts

Have you played the game? Do you even have it?

I spent over two weeks on the campaign. Realistically the campaign has less than 10 hours of gameplay. So what did I do in that time? I was restarting having encountered one of the countless fatal bugs.

1/10 of the effort of this game is about actually playing the game, 9/10 is learning what triggers which bugs and how to avoid them when you can.

Nobody is doing any favours to BIS by ignoring the criminal state of the games they release.

Yes I have the game. No I have not finished the campaign as I have been messing with custom missions and single missions to get the hang of the new interface.

I know there are bugs and eventually most will be fixed, especially the game stoppers. I honestly don't care as I've never finished a campaign in this engine yet.

Go cry all you want, luckily I won't see it thankfully with my newly found ignore feature.

Hi all

I think dvolk is playing a different game to me. Are we sure he has actualy bought ArmA II?

I have had tons of fun playing ArmA II since buying it less than 2 weeks ago.

COD lasted me 2 days and another 3 to play online and decide it was just an ego stroker prison.

I am sure Like BIS's OFP and ArmA I I will be playing ArmA II for years.

Kind regards walker

You obviously haven't attempted to complete the campaign.

What he speaks is true. It is fatally flawed, not in one spot, but many many spots.

The game is still great fun though.

Personally I think he is a shill. Nobody can be that outraged over something so trivial. Compliments just enough to look objective but complains a little too enthusiastically. He's a shill.

The problem of the campaign is twofold :

1) it does have some bugs

2) it's non-linear and plays tricks with the player, but because of point 1, sometimes it works the way it should, and you think it's a bug !!!

If it was more "linear" it would be easier to tell what works and what doesn't :

- example : this door doesn't open... I must have forgotten a key somewhere in that spaceship filled with monsters, maybe in this left corridor...

- Arma 2 : this door doesn't open, even with a satchel, it's another bloody bug !!

An ambitious tricky and freeform campaign must be FLAWLESS (which is near impossible) or else it breaks even when it works...

for example : catching Lopotev is impossible in Razor 2, and yet you are led to believe it is possible. So that when the mission ends and you can't get to him you think it was another bug

guys, this is a complex game. Most of us expected before even bought the game that it will have bugs. Sheesh have you played the new SOCOM on PS3? it was completely unplayable and it took them months to release the fix patch. BI release two patches already. Obviously you're not a true fan of ArmA because a true ArmA fan knows that the game will get fixed eventually, so be patient, go play online instead.

name one similar game that has been released in the flawless form you apparently expect?

DCS: Black Shark. Different genre but still a complex beast. Excellent quality release from Eagle Dynamics.

Excellent product (I mean it) if you don't expect anything from the environnement. Fun flying, awesome avionics, poor environement to play that superb beast in.

=> disapointment, if you ask me

/End of OT :)

I honestly don't care as I've never finished a campaign in this engine yet.

That's where we differ. I don't enjoy messing around in the editor.

I want a sense of achievement that comes from completing challenges that the designers of the game felt was reasonable for players. If I make my own mission and fail terribly I have no idea if I'm just bad at the game or if I set it up wrongly. Likewise if I complete it easily, did I make it too easy or am I just really good?

Furthermore I feel that selling me a game and then expecting me to make my own missions in the editor is like selling me a book that's empty except five pages that tell you how to write your own book. It's funny once, but the next book better have some substance.

The only time I enjoyed ArmA 2 was when I was playing through the missions someone ported from OFP (bugs notwithstanding). I already OFP though, and I can just play them in OFP.

Yes, what he speaks is true... the problem is the way he convey it. we acknowledge there are bugs and it is unfortunate. BIS will fix it. but his constant whining and snide remarks is getting on peoples nerve. he may reply that BIS should test it out before hand, irresponsible etc. it is unfortunate, and the fact remain the game is already released. help BIS to fix it or be silent. bitching and moaning will not get the work done. ppl will argue and counter argue. in the end everybody lose. so pls take the chill pill.

I haven't played it, but does it have drivable vehicles? If you eject can you continue to play on the ground? Can you grab an AK and start shooting? When you shoot an AI infantry does the engine calculate where each bullet hits? I could go on and that doesn't excuse anything but while DCS BS is more focused ARMA is much broader in terms of gameplay which means more to go wrong.

It's a more complex sim, but from what I know of it, it seems very focused. If all ARMA had to do was make the infantry aspect as tight as possible and left all other areas simplified then I'm guessing it would be much more polished yet much more narrow in scope.

Wish I had time to play it since it looks like an excellent sim.

The voice acting and general cinematics are exceptionally bad. Typically, you can forgive games such as Men Of War for really crappy cinematics, but ArmA 2 brings it to whole new level.

I think there is a basic lack of artistic ability with the development crew. Take this example... The first mission in the campaign is a covert ops, 4 man night mission. I mean, wtf!? Talk about being thrown in the deep end with the paedophiles! Could I not have been eased into the game with some daytime patrol mission?!?!?

It's jam packed full of bugs. It simply doesn't work. I can't play it even though I want to.

The deep end? Dude, in the first mission you ...

are part of a team with silenced weapons and are required to do nothing more than sneak up on a couple of poor unsuspecting guys and blow their brains out. If you don't completely cock it up, you can drop them all before they even realize what's going on.

How much simpler can it get?

This game has bugs man, the mouse in the cockpit, wingman AI, and we're still waiting for a patch since the game was released.

Hi InFireBaptize

Also BIS need to allow for multi button mice. My usual push to talk for Teamspeak is the mouse thumb button. If I press it now, I eject out of vehicles and the like, as fourth button and fifth seem to be linked along with first button to the mouse wheel click and activate the context sensitive actions.

Kind Regards walker

I have a Trackball Optical with two additional buttons and I have no problems assigning functions to these in ArmA2. If you do you should be able to go into your mouse software and just assign the additional buttons to work as keyboard keys for chosen applications.

I have not ventured much into the campaign yet as I have only had time to mess around in the editor, but I have to say hands up to BIS for creating such a beautiful, huge and believable environment!

I would just like to know if there is anyway of making the civilian and wildlife modules populate the map just a bit more? For instance does adding more than one ambient wildlife module onto the map increase the number of animals that spawn or is only one module possible?

A little work needed on the civilian spawning too as a lot of them seem to get injured in the process or end up getting stuck in doorways in some pretty funny positions. :upside:

Bohemia take payments from this game? Its still in the beta\alfa state.

I played this game at my friends place a couple of times now, because I wanted to try it before I considered buying it.

Some of the flaws iwe seen:

-Suddenly getting killed from nowhere for no reason, Some said it was because moving out of mission area. But getting shot even though I was at the exact same place 20 saves ago.

-Enemy AI still wallhacks you just like Arma 1 .

-Extremly bugged campagn maps and functions overall.. just search Arma 2 bugs on youtube.

-graphics had a little hope though, but this light bullshit is ridiculous. I had to use nightvision in the middle of the day, if I were standing one way the light was ok, i turned and everything went totally dark. What the hell is up with that?

The guys that tested this game and approved it.... damn get a new job or stop beeing a slacker at what you do, damn..

Not even free games have so many buggs as this one.. Atleast Operation Flashpoint was good, realy hope Operation Flashpoint 2 will be the same.

PS!

Glad I dint buy this shit this time.

I have played arround 4-6 hrs of the game, encountered enough buggs in that time to make an assumption...

I think I'll start going to all the forums for all the game demos I try out and bitch and moan about them if I find them not to my liking and don't plan on buying them. That'll show'em.

Idiots.

Thats not framerate lag in game either, its network lag. I get the same thing on just about every server I have played on. Even if I play on the Chicago servers as I live in Milwaukee, I get pretty nasty desync and lag. And thats on a 15 down 2 up Time Warner business cass line with no other WAN traffic!!!
