Complaints about DOF/Blur/Bloom/HDR/Cholesterol etc.etc.

Recommended Posts

Most probably because you FPS is higher now - amount of motion blur is dependent on actual framerate. The lower FPS goes the more blur is aplied. Motion blur does not consume FPS it helps to create the video more fluent when framerate drops.

Please reply in my thread, Armored Sheep! The Bloom etc one, right below.

Depth of field can be reduced by changing postprocess in video options.

HDR efects, such as changing of eye aperture and bloom cannot be switched off. This part of our engine is much improved compared to ArmA, but still not perfect. You can still see in some specific scenes that aperture is set not well enough and the screen is too dark or has white areas surrounded by bloom on surfaces that appear gray from close.

i like the motion blur alot.

Not sure about depth of field but that may be my settings more than anything as sometimes everything seems quite crisp.

the shiny HDR off grey surfaces is not so good but the hdr in the sky, blowouts on brighter surfaces is great.

1. Blur when running/breathing/turning around. I'm ok with the effect if you would be very exhausted after sprinting for 5 minutes, but to have it after some steps? It practically means I am looking at blurry textures most of the time. If I want that, I will play OPF: DR :)

So you want OFP DR to be more realistic than Arma2? :j:

No thanks. Leave it in. Slow down the gameplay by any means necessary, to achieve realistic levels. Arma1 had it way wrong.

Does it matter how much gear you carry? I think it should. I could be wrong but I saw in a video a pilot running around. He apparently made much less 'noise' (gear sound) than the rest of the lot. I hope this is the case, that the more gear you carry, the less stamina you have and less stealthy you become. Using blur to simulate tunnel vision, seems like a good idea. I haven't tested yet, so I could be very wrong though.

Having played the game now an option to disable the effect would be very welcome. It looks ok when the FPS is high enough, but when the FPS is lower the effect becomes quite annoying and the glitches (incorrect blurring in non-moving objects) become too apparent.

I don't want to make a new thread, so I'll post this here, is anyone else experiencing really loud sounds even when all the sliders in the options are as low as they can possibly go?

Exact same problem with me and other other I know of

Personally, I'd give up all the post-processing render smudge for FSAA -- I was a bit disappointed to learn the shipping version of ArmA II won't do FSAA... For me pixleated, writhing edges are more of an immersion breaker then all the post-processing foo-faw add...

:(

I went into my Nvidia control panel, and forced V-Sync off for ArmA2. That seemed to fix that annoying blur effect.

totally agree! think arma2 hasnt AA because they develop the engine for consoles too! :(

No, it's something to do with the way the current iteration of the post-processer works -- apparently Maruk was saying that some future patch might allow for FSAA, which was why I started this thread... Feel free to add your support...

Remove the blur:D or atleast add the option to turn off. If the game is so resource consuming and it's difficult to play without the blur, dont worry we'll upgrade our PCs

The motion blur is one of the best additions to the game and easily enhances the immersion ten-fold. So I say keep it in forever.

I think ppl are missing Armored_Sheep's explanation.

I just came to this understanding when tweaking things over the weekend. If your machine is running the game perfectly there would not be much or any blur.

When you spin your head fast or run with bobbing head and the frame rate drops the blur is added giving you the high immersion feeling rather than the game jerking all over the place..

Removing the blur would simply mean it would jerk and you would lower the visual settings.

Getting to the point where you have just a little blur is probably ideal to give you the best slow/static visuals and a fluid immersive feel while running around.

how are you guys monitoring you're fps? is there an option for it, or do you just have fraps running?

I do like the blur but it would be better if i could tone it down a bit, it seems a bit over the top atm.

I've just turned some of the options down to run at about 40-50fps. Now the motion blur is a nice effect, its not so noticeable. So id recommend doing some more tweaking till you get over 30fps.

Agreed. Bloom, Blurr and HDR and everything else should all be toggeled aswell as deapth of field. Playing the game will less than 150% fillrate makes it an eyesore and hard to even spot targets at a distance.

It's possible turn off bloom and blur?!

Is not realistic.... :(

Realistic is one thing, getting sick after 2 hours ArmA2 is another one. It looks like a horrible LSD Trip and is overstraining yours eyes.

Look....writing something on the forums is enough. You don't need to use fonts with 200 puntos.

The whole thread is about motion blur. People already said the effect is a bit too heavy.

Devs (Armored Sheep) answered the way it is designed and works.

So they probably know that it might have been overdone. Also said it is in the core and may not be as easy as you think to tweak.

Devs also said they will try to bring the AA settings back.

So this thread did its job and highlighted an issue. Posting "make it optional" in huge letters or over and over again does not help it to get done faster.
