ArmA II: The Vehicles

Recommended Posts

But in defense of this arcadish radar I would say that, in real life, vehicle commanders/pilots can rely on their crewmen, other vehicles, UAV assets, datalink & screens, to help them build a mental image of the situation.

Yes, but the problem is that radars and data-links (like the one you posted) indicates the targets in a horizontal (and top) perspective and not from a vertical perspective like we have in ArmA.

I won't even mind to see a a simplistic radar (althrought I prefer a more realistic one) as long as that radar indicate thing in a horizontal/top perspective like the real radars (and/or data link screens) do!

For what it's worth the enemy (and friendly) markers that are shown in the ArmA's map (in case you have them enabled, that is) looks much more like a real radar than the suposed ArmA "radar"!

So, maybe, if this radar was much less accurate and would only indicate the approximate azimuth of the enemies (those which have been spotted) instead of giving the exact position of enemy and friendly units and if the tab-lock key was disabled, it would make the vehicle experience more interesting and challenging... (good idea for a mod maybe :p)

The problem is that we would still have an arcadish vertical situation radar instead of the real-looking horizontal situation one.

-edit : well tab-lock key may still be necessary if the vehicle is played from commander's seat.

Yes, I fully agree with that!

Definitely a destroyer or frigate. Possibly even a cruiser in that picture.

The Arleigh Burke class of guided missile destroyers, one of the destroyer classes of the United States Navy. It is the first destroyer built around the Aegis combat system and the SPY-1D multi-function phased array radar. The first ship was commissioned on 4 July 1991. After the decommissioning of the last Spruance-class destroyer, USS Cushing, on September 21, 2005, the Arleigh Burke class ships became the U.S. Navy's only active destroyers.

This is the ship seen in the screenshot. Notice the comm dishs going down the afta spin of the ship. Hopefully it can be used for naval gun support.

The Oliver Hazard Perry class), is a class of frigates named after the American Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, the hero of the naval Battle of Lake Erie. This class of warships was designed in the United States in the mid-1970s as general-purpose escort vessels, capable of most naval operations, yet inexpensive enough to be bought in large quantities to replace World War II-era destroyers. Fifty-five ships were built in the United States: 51 for the United States Navy and four for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). In addition, eight were built in the Republic of China (Taiwan), six in Spain, and two in Australia for their navies. Former U.S. Navy warships of this class have been sold/donated to the navies of Bahrain, Egypt, Poland, and Turkey.

This also being shown in a screenshot. Looks like BIS is put in a Expeditionary Strike Group. The makeup: An LHA/LHD, LPD, LSD, CG, DDG, FFG, SSN, and P-3 Orion. Well we will see how much of it will be incorporated in to the game/simulation.

Sorry to ask a question that I believe has been covered, probably even in this thread. I was wondering if there are vehicles that are believed to be included in the game that are not listed on the main site?

There are several vehicles observed in previews that are not listed on the site. They seem to have selected images of the coolest/newest equipment for these pages.

is there an unofficial list of these observations anywhere? Again sorry to ask.

Yeah Here you go Confirmed & Suspected Unofficial Vehicle List. You can find the official vehicles and some unofficial suspects by the community and all most of the vehicles that have been seen in preview videos and pictures.

Mi-17 / Mi-8

It looks civilian.

Hasn't the BTR-90 HQ been confirmed in the Russian video too?

Thanks Jakerod, shouldn't have doubted you man.

The BTR HQ hasn't been confirmed yet in any clear form just suspected from the Russian Faction Video.

The Mi-8/17 is a helicopter thus rotary, not fixed wing. :p

That Hip looks quite nice. Reminds me of the time where every airplane and helicopter in Russia had Aeroflot printed on the side...

With civilians receiving aircraft by default, it looks like this will feature a very dynamic campaign.

Hi, i will wonder better "how safe" those bikes will be, if they're as dangereous as the BIS

ArmA's motorbikes... i fear more accidents than in the Saudi Arabia's roads or than in the

Kosovo's peace keeping missions. Let's C ya

Anyone know if this engine supports door-mounted machineguns (w/gunner) in helicopters? I haven't played ArmA or OFP.

Yes it does support door machineguns. In ArmA I can recall the UH-60's had 2 different types of machineguns available for door gunners. The chinook had a door gun position, and the MI-17 had on. I'm sure there were some others.

Hi, in the ArmA, only the UH-60s and the MI-8 MTV (aka MI-17) have (crew) men operated

side machineguns not operated directly by the pilot or copilot. That in the ArmA, in the ArmA2...

we don't know all the choppers versions, so who knows. Let's C ya

For a fact the UH-1Y Venom will be pilot operated guns and FFAR. For the others. it will most likely be crew position gummery.

For a fact, the UH-1Y will have pilot operated FFARs, the port and stbd pintle mounted miniguns would be crew-served.
