  1. @Phluxus: The rationale of the devs was explained when they announced that a campaign wouldn't be out with the release: http://www.bistudio.com/english/company/developers-blog/394-survive-adapt-win It's understandable that people are annoyed about the missing content, but all the constant complaining and negativity is one reason why I no longer visit these forums often.

What would an insurgency in 2035 look like?

It depends on the degree of foreign support, I'd suppose. The Syrian rebels for instance have received tons of surplus from the Gulf countries (like Steyr AUGs, SSG-69s, FN FALs from Libya, RPG-32s from Jordan, Turkish tactical vests etc). That isn't even including some of the "third-party" imports of older weapons intended to look like they came from Syrian government arsenals (including DSHKs and ZSU cannons) that came from Iraq and Turkey to supplement captured government weaponry. This is besides the considerable financial, communications, intelligence and training assistance that the rebels already receive. Based on that, a hypothetical Greek insurgency in 2035 that would presumably be sponsored by NATO would feature lightly armed and highly mobile units of rebels, who would be armed with NATO-surplus or Hellenic Army equipment (a possible way to sneak in ARMA 2 weapons like the M4 or the G36), as well as some captured Iranian weaponry. There would be no need to hide who the rebels are affiliated with, so they would also be provided with more advanced rocket launchers and SAMs too. These rebels will probably have tactical equipment (vests, body armor) and NATO-supplied communications/medical equipment. How the rebels would dress would be highly dependent on how much control they have over certain areas and how intense the fighting is, but a mixture of camouflage items (digital Hellenic lizard camo, Iranian camo, surplus NATO camo (UCP, DPM etc.) with civilian clothing is probably expected. Improvised vehicles would be present but not very common - it is more likely to see rebels using civilian vehicles and technicals as well as captured enemy vehicles in combat. One innovation would probably be the rebels having their own light UAVs, either a tossable one like a RQ-11 Raven or a quadricopter, controllable from tablets or smartphones. Another aspect of the conflict would be the propaganda side of it, which means you will have rebels with their own embedded "journalists" - an armed rebel with a smartphone who will go around with the express purpose of filming attacks for later dissemination.

    OPFOR too Futuristic?

I don't have any particular problem with how the OPFOR looks outside of those flip down lenses (which look pretty impractical, especially when paired with NVGs) and the neck which seems zipped up too high to be comfortable in a Greek summer. What's probably needed are some more "casual" looking uniform variants like NATO has, such as uniforms without the long gloves, zipped down collars etc.
  4. Your comment doesn't make any sense. COD has only had one game set in the future (Black Ops 2) with the rest of them being set either in WW2 and alternate-history Cold War and contemporary eras with even more sci-fi technology than we have so far seen in ARMA 3. Sure, you could pick some contemporary conflict, but I'm going to wager a guess and say that the devs wanted a bit more creative license rather than to retread over the same material that they have worked on in various stages since 2001.

    Arma 3 Civ Vehicles

I doubt Greeks on a semi-rural island would be running around with dinky one-seat three wheelers designed with city travel in mind. If anything, there should be more types of motorbikes/scooters, small cabover trucks and other utilitarian vehicles (even futuristic tractors, perhaps) around.

    ARMA 3 OPFOR Discussion Thread

The resistance ought to be armed with fairly antiquated weapons at the outset of the campaign - antiquated as in 30 year old ex-Hellenic Army M4 carbines or G3s, and then receive more advanced NATO-supplied weaponry as the campaign progresses, the same way that foreign-backed insurgencies tend to be supplied. It'd be a nice callback to the previous ARMA games too. I don't believe we have seen any of the Iranian boats so far either, so here's hoping that the devs will make a practical-looking version of the "stealth" attack boat that the Iranians were showing off a few years back.
  7. This is a good point - one of the great things about OFP was that the campaign was structured in such a way that it felt as though the action was naturally "escalating" - you would start by encountering a few enemies, nobody even knew who the enemy were exactly during the initial missions, and by the time you did know you were already thrust into a situation which was terrifying in its minimalism (After Montignac). It would be great if ArmA 3 could capture the sense of foreboding in its campaign where you didn't feel capable of taking on the entire world, which is what I felt was the case with ArmA 2's campaign.

    New Rainbow 6

The original Rainbow Six was ported to the PSX, Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 (certainly not as good as the PC version, though): Example: http://www.gamespot.com/n64/action/rainbowsix/index.html I bet the plot will probably feature another ex-Rainbow member who has gone rogue and is helping the terrorist organization, and that the "return to tactical roots" will probably involve at least one fight with a helicopter. Besides, Ubi will never bring back the one feature that defined the old games: being killed in 1-2 hits without being able to heal yourself :)
  9. It would be neat if someone retextured some of the Chendaki/NAPA units with Takistani faces to resemble Libyan rebel units, like the Egyptian retexture pack that was released a few weeks back.
  10. Nice, my only comment would be to add velcro shoulder pockets, as seen here: http://i602.photobucket.com/albums/tt104/vor033/Afghan%20National%20Army/2cb20c8b.jpg

    Russia, return or someone new?

I still think that the "Independence Lost" campaign that BIA was working on prior to VBS1 (around 2002-03 IIRC) would be a good concept for an expansion- the ADF vs. Indonesian military in a conflict over East Timor would be an interesting way of having two regional powers with a mix of western and eastern equipment fighting each other. This would also be good, especially if there were some variations of eastern weapons with western sights (like an EOTech-equipped Pecheneg or Aimpoints on AK-series rifles) that have been showing up in the hands of FSB special operations soldiers.

    Battle: Los Angeles Trailer

Timur Bekmambetov is currently producing a movie about an alien invasion of Moscow called "The Darkest Hour" that should fulfill your wish: http://www.slashfilm.com/tag/the-darkest-hour/
  13. You're right, the units seem to be the basic CDF models with blue helmets and berets.
  14. No kidding, as much as the previews reveal that there evidently is some room for improvement in terms of performance and AI, some posters are being a bit too melodramatic by saying things like "Putting all my hopes on ArmA3 now ... if there´s ever going to be one,"or when they complain about a dearth of information, then complain that not everything was fixed in the preview code. Constructive criticism is necessary, but when a thread seems to consist of people endlessly complaining that their wish list was not fulfilled, it's no wonder ArmA II has a somewhat negative impression among audiences in general.

    Arma 3!!! Your Expectations

IIRC, those two ideas were actually considered by BIS when they were originally planning a sequel to OFP back around 2003-2004, when Codemasters was still going to be the publisher. There was even a site up for a while that described three 1970s-era campaigns that were going to be set in Southeastern Asia, Africa and Central Europe.
