Probably when the game gets released.

No, it will be about this show session that twitter covered, they had a representative there.

EDIT:

Probably when the game gets released.

Thanks Cappa, article was the word that I was looking for.

You have got a point - twitter is a trend I think will diminish. But it was useful in this case - it caused excitement, hype and answered many questions which many wanted answered - In realtime - I guess forums are there for that too but this was different. It was special.

Having a seperate place for discussion and coverage is difficult as both have to link...

ArmA 2 on STEAM

posted by Dwarden @ 04:13PM on May 20, 2009

STEAM release was 'revealed' at 505Games event related to ArmA 2 which was covered on Twitter.

* more details about this TBA (soon ...

I watched mostly the whole event, and didn't hear about this... Makes me wonder how much MORE new stuff will be released from the fan sites attending.

:yay::yay:

*Edit*

Ya Dwarden, Twitter was rather clunky for actual communication, but for blurbs of info, it worked. (Looking over the list to see where I missed it)

A steam release means no securom protection with a limited activation thing? :D

Not sure Nemesis. All the games there were to have securom on them that I got from steam had securom removers a few weeks after release due to Securom's bad reputation with customers. I'm surprised BIS or the publishers (who's ever decision it was) included it at all.

Securom is confirmed, at least for the 505 games version...

I'm thinking the Steam version will not have Securom since Steam itself is it's own activation verification, but again I cannot say for sure.

I think i read it on twitter, too that you have to activate your ArmA 2 with suc***rom over the internet...This scares me about limited activations and overburdened servers in the few days. I only would appreciate it if this would be an option to use ArmA 2 without dvd once it is activated... but i don't think so :(

Think about it guys, are you really going to re-install ARMA2 that many times? And if you do, the only action you need to take is to send them a quick e-mail. I have ARMA from Morphicon and I have never had a problem. Everyone is making a big deal out of nothing.

Yeah but what about time? If you want to reinstall ArmA 2 past several years the activationserver may be down; or two installations within 1 week? I probably will install arma 2 before i set up my new system and then i will reinstall windows...imagine ofp would have some sort of this activation and it is still played by an amount of gamers. I hope a future patch or something else will disable these gags like Ofp with 1.96 and ArmA with 1.09beta :)

Near one week left to german release, i hope we won't need to hotfix everything for good performance at the beginning ;)

The same thing for ArmA will happen with ArmA 2. The protection is here to prevent hack when the game is released.

It's useless when the game time is over (player continue to play of course, but game stop selling or very few).

In the very rare case where you should be block to install/reinstall, you just have to contact securom to tell them you own a real copy of the game, they can provide patched setup or wathever is needed.

Edit : maybe we will have the option to "delete" the current licence so we don't loose the right to install it on another machine. (this is the type of licence for GTA 4 for example)

I've reinstalled OpFlash about 10-15 times over 3 different pc's in the 8 years its been out. Why should i have to contact them when i want to reinstall?

No one's said there will be a limited number of activations. I have a number of SecuRom protected games which are not limited in any way.

with online activation of SECUROM there are several games with 3 limited installs / hardware config and it turned out to be major pain ...

especially if You consider that lot of people will switch from XP / Vista to Seven in upcoming 6-12 months ...

there was only said there are 3 activations and re-activation by phone yet nothing about e.g. opt-in revoke ...

i think for more details You need ask 505Games / Securom
