How is this enforced, though?

Player can be driver and gunner at the same time... only solution
lapa replied to wingnutt270's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'm in favour of OP's and maturin's arguments. As we can't give precise voice commands to AI like we can to human drivers, manual input is the next best thing. One player juggling two tasks is far from being overpowering. I'm puzzled by steamtex's ad hominems and claims of game ruining effect when he agrees to rundll.exe's workaround suggestion (#56) in #59. Rundll.exe's suggestion of removing LEFT/RIGHT commands tries to achieve what steamtex's argued against the whole thread - direct control that is. Although, AI would still get confused by nearby objects and maneuvering the vehicle would still be crippled and unpredictable. Disclaimer: I've never played CoD, Battlefield or any other fragfest games, lest my opinion gets dismissed on that basis. -
Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
lapa replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Now, this is something I would buy if I had the money. However, I probably wouldn't buy the extra Titan. Especially after overclocking your CPU, you should be golden. For the money, another Titan wouldn't give that much of an improvement IMO. -

ARMA 2: OA beta build 93825 (1.60 MP compatible build, post 1.60 release)
lapa replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Some servers with 93825 beta auto-kick players with the message: "You were kicked off the game. BattlEye script restriction: #16" People here have experienced the problem http://www.kellys-heroes.eu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=72&p=40926 Me and my friend also get this error on a couple of DayZ-servers. -
The blood screen has been there since OFP. This time the effect has been brought up to date. It doesn't necessarily make it more realistic, but I don't see how it makes it any less realistic. It think that having a strong visual cue that you've been hit is a good thing.

Yett's rig, as specified in the first post, should run Arma2 at more than 30 fps. Even though this is not directly related to Arma2's optimization, something's clearly amiss. It is what it is. Welcome to the world of PC gaming. Certain hardware combinations and different drivers just won't run properly. Yett, you should head to the troubleshooting section.

So you are worrying about the fact the Mission editor might be too easy to use and thus create a lot more user-created content (most of which would be of a low quality)? What a weird worry.

Something that disturbed me about A2: amount of enemies you were up against.
lapa replied to Jaypaul97's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
The feeling of being a small cog in a large machinery was a big part of the appeal of Operation Flashpoint. That was the selling point! Simulating different experiences in mechanized infantry. This was something that previous games never tried or even could do. I didn't care for the lone wolf night-ops missions then, and I don't care for them now. The cracks in the AI are easier to see in those kind of missions. I felt that BIS's decision to ride the current trend of focusing on a small team of "cool" spec-up guys with names like "Razor" etc. in Arma2 was a mistake. This trend started in Arma, where there were several small team and sniper missions. The campaign took a step toward the realm of cinematic rollercoaster shooters (mainstream). This plays against everything that differentiates the game series from other military games. The quality of campaigns has gone downhill after OFP and its extensions. They have been lacklustre and even broken. I own OFP and its extensions, Arma, Queen's Gambit, Arma2 and OA, but I don't think I've finished any of the Arma games (to be precise, I've completed few of the minicampaigns). The OFP campaigns I've completed several times. EDIT: Of course, it might be nostalgia speaking, when I remember OFP days. -
A Cover Mechanic á la Red Orchestra 2 would be nice. It would make shooting from cover pure bliss, you could peep in and out of cover. It would also enable "blindfire" over walls and trenches. Probably would be too much work to implement though.

I remember these exact discussions just a couple of months before the release of Arma1 and Arma2. People kept saying how the released videos were work in progress and how the finished product was going to be something completely different. In both cases, it was evident that BIS was working on a tight release schedule and there simply wasn't enough time or manpower to tackle everything. A lot was only slightly improved from previous incarnations of the game engine - from the perspective of the end-user, of course. BIS probably has spent a lot of time reworking key aspects of the game engine to allow for new features and improve some of the old ones. Still there may be a lot that can't feasibly be changed without reworking the code from the ground up. Maybe there just is a point to which the animation system can be honed without starting to change everything else as well, so to speak. At any rate, let us hope this time BIS has enough time to finish the game before the release. At least the community alpha phase suggests that there's slightly more time to tweak the game. One thing is certain, Arma3 will be an improvement over Arma2. To what extent, we shall see.

Using the map is one way, but this almost requires that your difficulty settings shows friendlies on the map, unless you're hardcore :D.

Does the grass effect the AI, is my game fudged or am i insane?
lapa replied to NeMeSiS's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I think the AI's vision is quite well adjusted at the moment, the AI definitely isn't all-seeing. You can hide in the grass and if you stay put the AI may pass you by a few meters away. Also, if the AI sees you in a corner of a building/rock, it will use supressing fire and you may retreat and change location and the AI doesn't automatically know where you are. However, I find that the AI does have a slight advantage in areas with dense vegetation in terms of getting the first contact, but that goes for friendly AI as well, which balances things out. In less dense vegetation, human player has the advantage, as you can usually spot the enemy before the AI. -
Can Operation Cobalt be played co-operatively?

[OA] Cannot get Bradley crewman to reboard his own Bradley in Mission 03: Pathfinder.
lapa replied to BF2_Trooper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I tested this in the armory and got the same result. I also noticed that this problem happens when I'm turned out and press the [optics] key, otherwise I can turn about normally. When I'm turned in the optics view functions normally.
